My stay at Mountain View Estate was nothing short of wonderful. We enjoyed the peace and quiet. Our host Jacques was friendly, welcoming and always available to help with whatever we needed, from making sure we have a clean kitchen everyday, braai area and giving us directions to places of convinience in town. I would recommend it couples who enjoy quiet places, surrounded by mountains and small wildlife.

Comfortable accommodation away from the busy city life. Relaxing is just the thing to do here. Good location, perfectly situated,10km from all the amenities in the beautiful town of Parys. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable with a kitchen allocated to each room for self-catering purposes. Jacques is a great host and made us feel very welcome and at home. We will be back soon.

Had a pleasant stay and got value for what we paid for. Convenient location to explore the surrounding areas. Safe and tranquil surroundings. It would be great if there where more activities on the premises itself to keep one entertained, especially for guests who would like to stay over for a longer period of time. This isn't a negative comment, only a personal observation and suggestion. Regards Theunis

It was exactly what was needed. Peace and quiet. Close enough to soips and malls but far away to hear bird songs and Fish Eagles. To see fishes play in the river was an extra bonus.
Hospitality was above average and the accommodation perfect for a few days of rest

A few kilometers out of Parys. Peaceful surrounding with fresh air. If you want to get away from the hectic rat race, this is the place to recouperate. Beautiful old furniture in a unique setting. Great hospitality.

Reception was friendly with our arrival. Nice and quite location. Close enough to Parys if you need anything. Value for money. The room was clean. Had shade net to park our vehicle under. Had sanitizer in rooms and in reception.

We did not enjoy our stay at Mountain View Country Estate, in fact we fleed the Saturday morning after having arrived Friday evening.
I should have read the other reviews rather than the venue's self-description, which is borderline deceptive.

A few items that I did not find fitting:
1. The "En-Suite" is misleading - it's really only shower and bath
2. There are cameras inside the shared areas in the house lending towards a very creepy feeling
3. The outside area looks and feels as if it's someone's back yard
4. Other comments refer to the cleanliness of the rooms - though it generally appears to be very clean, there were unknown hairs on my pillow
5. The refrigerator was only turned on when we arrived and subsequently everything inside it froze
6. The seats inside are very uncomfortable and in dire need of re-upholstery

Having stayed at various venues throughout South Africa I can advise that even in this price class it's not good value.
Though the furnishings are generally not in line with a backpackers or hostel, the set-up definitely is.
Though I see the defence in terms of the original oil paintings, these would really only add value once the other basics are in place.

1 Please note we now have a toilet, basin, and shower in each room. This is not true there is no bath in the room. 2 All the best hotels have cameras in shared areas for security. Why would you find this creepy? 3 We put up some separation between the neighbors and us. 4 I have no idea how they got there. We are very strict about cleaning and washing the bedding. 5 In a country like South Africa with an electricity crisis, we do not leave a refrigerator on when no one uses it. When a guest arrives and wants to use the fridge we put it on. Make sure the fridge is at the right temperature for your needs to prevent it from freezing your goods. 6 You took off the cushions, therefore, the chair was uncomfortable. We have made many changes and upgrades. Please come and see for yourself.

I booked in to the Mountain View Country Estate for what was hoped to be a well deserved long weekend with the family.

We wanted to self cater and perhaps have lunch at the places we visited during the afternoon.

We pre-prepared food that needed to be cooked in an oven only to find out that there was no oven. We then wanted to put our food in the fridge only to be told that the fridge freezes the food.

The proprietor then allowed us to use the main oven so we could eat the first night.

The room included a cupboard that had no shelving for your clothes and the bathroom on suite does not include a toilet and a sink that you can barely fit your hands into. There was no shelving for your toiletries either. The toilet and bath if you require one is on the other side of the premises.

It would appear that you needed to wash your own dishes as no one came to wash the dishes in the morning (in other establishments you would have your dishes washed in the morning). Also there was no dishwashing soap hot water for the kitchen sink nor dish cloths.

When I asked to bath my child in the morning I was told the geyser was not on and that we should not use the bath as another couple were coming and we would use all the hot water.

We washed up and left in the afternoon and when I asked for the balance of my deposit back as I only slept one of the three nights. I was told no, it was non refundable.

We finding a hotel on the river for the balance of the weekend.

We have a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, 2 plate stove, crockery, cutlery, pots, and pans. The fridge freezes the food if you put it to cold. It would be advisable to find out beforehand whether your self-catering kitchen has an oven or not. The room includes a cupboard to hang clothes with a few drawers and separate chess of drawers. We put toilets in all the rooms. Now you have a toilet, basin, and shower in the room. We have a lady cleaning your room and washing your dishes each morning, or when you leave the room. Please arrange with me to put on the geyser for small children to take a hot bath if they refuse to shower. I am on the premises most of the times if you need some help just ask I will be happy to assist.

We arrived only to discover that this was was not as advertised (unfortunately this was recommended by Safari Now). They fail to mention this is a boarding school style set up with one long dark corridor and doors entering small rooms, a communal kitchen and a toilet at the end of the corridor for all guests to share. We knew we had booked a cheap place for self catering but even so, we were reluctant to stay the night. We politely requested a refund, which was poorly handled and it seemed they needed the money more than we did. We cut our losses and booked into Lavender Hills guest farm for only an additional R50.00 pp (you cannot compare the two!). Maybe great for a budget backpackers, but even then you may be paying too much.

Like many small hotels. Mountain View Country Estate's rooms are next to each other. Nothing strange about that. Ten O clock at night we put the main lights off and leave enough lights on so guests can move around if need to. The rooms are 3m by 6m. This is not small. All guests have their own kitchen unless its a group or organization booked together. This would be communicated upfront before they booked. Not only did Rebecca had her own kitchen but they, {2 people} were the only people in the guesthouse at that stage. There is no ground for the claim that the kitchens were communal. The 4 guest toilets are however communal. We have installed toilets in every room now. So you have a shower, basin, and toilet in each room, plus 4 guest toilets. The prices of Mountain View are quite cheap, but the place itself is by no means cheap. Please read the latest reviews. We invite Rebecca to book with us for a weekend for free and review us again...

Jacques sounded like a friendly person over the phone but it's all a masquerade. When i made my booking i made it very clear that i was looking for a wheelchair friendly room. Therefore i was very offended when he kept commenting about how huge my wheelchair is and that i should not scratch anything in the house (Like Really??) and to make it even worse he kept shushing mom whenever she spoke like she's some child (yes we arrived late for our booking but i kept him in the loop about it and he said it was fine), also he lied about the room being big and spacious. I was really traumatized because my mother was very upset with he's treatment. That is why i didn't hesitate to look for another place first thing in the morning. In Town City lodge compensated for the horrific experience we got from Mountain view country estate.

Guguilia was part of an Old apostle church meeting. All the guests booked separately. All the other guests were very friendly and polite. I could have booked many other guests, but I felt sorry for Gugumilia for being in a wheelchair. I gave her a big discount so she and her mother would be able to come. I asked Ggumilia not to come with a motorized wheelchair but with a normal one so she would fit through the doors easily. I had motorized wheelchairs before and they scratched the paint off the sides entering the rooms. She agreed. Gugumilia said they will be arriving late that night ten o clock at the latest. They arrived at half-past two that morning with an extra guest that she did not tell me about or paid for. They were very loud. Everybody was sleeping at that time. The Mother was literally screaming and laughing at the top of her voice. I asked them to be quiet many times but it did not help. The room was obviously not big enough for the extra person, but I had no other rooms available and accommodated him on a mattress on the floor with bedding, etc. Guguilia only paid a small deposit. She never paid the rest or for her extra guest
