The luxury tent experience was fairly understated. We were not roughing it up at a camping site with a tent. But we did lack the luxury. The bathroom was different and unexpected. They were clean but very different.
The resort is setup for couples so the tents are far apart and private. For this reason we did not see much of or interact with the staff.
We had an amazing game drive on the property. The guide was educated about the animals and informative.
Dinner was a basic braai with meat, salad and pap, while breakfast was eggs, bacon and sausage. The outside dining at the bon fire boma area was a disaster with insects attacking us and our food.
Overall we had an average to good stay.

The resort is very quiet due to its location far from the main road. The room is clean and tidy. The service is surprisingly OK. When we visit over the weekend, there is BOMA braai arranged. We are from Asia and we didn't really enjoy the BOMA braai. Surpisingly we enjoyed the break fast very much. The mince is very nice.
If the road to the resort is better, I will rate it to Excellent. It took me 40 min to finish the 10KM road.

Savannah Game lodge is a relaxing tented lodge with en-suite bathrooms. There are also rooms in the main building if you are afraid of creepy crawlies. The game drive is a must! they have almost all antelope you can think of and buffalo, rhino and giraffe were my favorite. The guide (Jimmy) who is working there for more than 12 years showed us the wedding venue at the river which is very authentic and romantic with remains of an old chapel and trees on lush green grass will make for a beautiful outdoor wedding.

My husband, myself and our son visited this gorgeous place. We stayed in one of their newly renovated luxury tents and it was wonderful. The tent was very spacious even with our little ones cot that the Savannah staff kindly provided for us. Felt as though we were camping in luxury with the most comfortable bed with electric blankets and a divine shower. With the tented ceiling and walls, it was a pleasure to hear all the animals and creatures throughout the night but we were very warm and cozy.

The tents are overlooking a dam that the animals come to drink at often that we watched from our private deck.
We went on a game drive and our guide was so wonderful. He was very friendly and taught us so many interesting facts that we had never heard before. We could get so close to the buffalos, it was surreal. You could tell the animals were calm and at ease, and it was very very enjoyable.

The food that we had for lunch on Saturday was delicious. My husband had the oxtail stew and I had the beef lasagne for lunch. The salads were fresh and the food was full of flavour.
We loved the self catering option and on the Saturday night we used their wonderful braai facilities. It was such a special experience to have a braai in the open bushveld.
The breakfast was eggs, bacon, toast, fried tomato and sausage. We were offered mushrooms too, but my husband and I declined.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and never too far if we needed anything, but not hovering or in our faces.
You can tell that they have recently renovated and upgraded a lot of their facilities as they look brand new.

The road to the lodge is a dirt road that is well travelled, but definitely fine as we drove with a VW Polo and had no issues. To anyone that is expecting to find a game farm at the end of a tar road, I think you’re a bit misconceived about what a game farm is and should probably stick to a hotel.
Overall, it was a truly relaxing and wonderful experience. We will definitely be back and cannot wait to be at Savannah again.

Would not recommend this place to anyone.
Our family went there to celebrate our mothers birthday and our experience was terrible.
Paid an extremely high price for a “gourmet burger” however to our disappointment we only got plain burgers that was cold. It was a very cold weekend and we didn’t have enough bedding to keep us warm. There were also not hot water on the premises and no effort was made to assist us in any matter. We decided to leave earlier because of poor service and the manager agreed to pay our next night stay and foods money back, however to find that they are now refusing to pay us back.
Really not a good place to go to.

Place is very run down and looks nothing like the pictures.

Food below zero. First night we ordered gourmet burgers @R180 pp. Burgers came cold, and there wasn't a choice of chicken patties as agreed, staff wasn't great to accommodate complaints on food.

The night it was very cold and there wasn't enough bedding to have a warm sleep.

Next morning we woke up there was no hot water in none of the units. We then decided to rather leave and request a refund as we have no timeline on when the water will be sorted and the mood between us and the staff was already not good regarding the cold burgers.

We never seen a cent of the money requested which resulted in R13000 loss on our side and owner refuses to pay back money.

Will not recommend this place to anyone.

We booked a night at Savannah as we were going to attend a wedding in the area. Due to illness we had to cancel the booking. I advised them of this on a week before the night in question and as per their web page I was due to get a refund. It has now been more than a month and every time I send an e-mail enquiring about the refund, I am told that she is waiting for the finance department. Surely it doesn't take a month to process a small refund??

We planned to have my mothers 70th birthday party @ Savannah Lodge. It was the worse experience ever. In the middle of the winter with no extra blankets or heaters, no hot water in the morning to have a shower. Bedding were dirty and smelly, Friday nights burgers way below standard as well as breakfast Saturday morning. As a family over 20 people we decided rather to leave Saturday morning. Staff commited to refund us our balance of our deposit and never received a cent from them!
They were full of excuses.
Be aware of this venue!!

This place is definitely NOT on par! The food is atrocious and to see anything you have to pay! You are not allowed with your own vehicle into the game reserve to go and look at animals and explore! The "luxury" tents are falling apart and not very clean! Everything is skimped on and you will definitely NOT get value for money! For sure skip this place! What was supposed to be a relaxing Valentines weekend turned out to be a weekend we could have done without and we left on Saturday early, being valentines no other accommodation was available! We travelled over 300km to get there as well! There are no fridges in these "luxury tents", you are not close to anything and cannot even refrigerate water and its extremely hot in summer.

Hi there Rene, Thanks for the review - it's always good to hear feedback, good or bad as that means we have the opportunity to grow and get BETTER. All guests are informed of the pricing structure and that we are no self catering. Which means we do nit have fridges in the rooms. We are 15km away from Parys Town, close enough to go out for a night but yet far enough to have a real BUSH getaway. Our guests that normally come to Savannah do not want to be near anything as the city life takes over and simply choose to relax. We apologise for all the inconvenience caused - but we can assure you we have changed for the good! Come back on Valentines 2018 and we will give you a 15% discount! Warm Savannah Savannah Regards

I phoned this Lodge on Friday afternoon Jan 10th 2014. Nobody answered the phone. A voice asking me to leave a message was so faint and such a mumble that one could not make out who is speaking and what to do.I left messages anyway, and I also send a sms ,I also send a email. On Saturday Jan 11th I got a sms from the lodge to PLEASE PHONE THEM... What bloody nerve !!!! How Rude !!!! Should the lodge not phone the customer and secure the booking...? Today is Jan 13th 2014. I still have no reply on my email.

By the way guys I work for a big tour opertor and we WERE lookinging for a place to bring our guest to stay for two nights. You have missed out on 34 tours for 18pax for two nights.

Hi there Herman, Thanks for the review. It's always good to receive good or bad reviews as there are always room for growth! You are absolutely right - the lodge needs to phone the client and get a speedy response. Unfortunately we had a manager that did not live up to our expectations. We can assure you that the service now is EXCELLENT! Warm Savannah Savannah Regards
