Worst place ever. Camping next to a church Weekend group. Loud music till 3.30 in the morning.... unacceptable.... had to get up at 4am to be an official at a rally. With hardly any sleep. We are there to keep drivers and spectators safe and with no sleep this could be extremely dangerous. Absolutely by far the worst experience ever. Management should have taken charge .... but did absolutely nothing. Please save yourself the hassle and don't go there. The pictures must have been taken 20 years ago. The showers heads are missing. The toilets broken. Absolutely filthy ablutions.. Terrible...

We decided to do a last minute birthday weekend to celebrate my friends' twins birthday. This long weekend bordering Freedom Day and Labour Day we took a short trip out to the town of Parys. What an interesting little town bordering the Vaal River. Hopping between the Free State and North West a regular affair! The Dome Inn Lodge is in the North West Province where numerous venues, lodges and guest houses enjoy the river banks. Honestly, it was with trepidation that we went along to stay at the Dome Inn Lodge after ready some of TripAdvisor's earlier reviews from 2016 and 2017. The Dome Inn Lodge sister venue is The River Lodge and although we were not on the river the venue was pretty, secure with well-kept gardens. Regardless, last minute .friends didn't leave us with much choice. We packed some of our camping gear for comfort and left the tents, beds and duvets. In hindsight, I am glad we opted for the rondavels because the evenings were quite cold. This property has a lovely boardroom venue, dining room and what looked like converted stables for more formal accommodation. Then there were the campsites with power, on a level grassed area with limited space for only a few campers and lovely neat and spacious ablutions. Then there are the rondavels which slept 4 in a room with 2 single beds and 2 bunk beds that were dismantled. These were quite spacious with a bar fridge, microwave, kettle and tea and coffee station. The bathrooms were modern, clean with great very hot water and amazing pressure! On the backside there was a washing station for dishes, remember to take a plug, should you like to feed families like us. The space was also made more private around the rondavels with fencing. Some of the benefits here were pets are welcome, watch out for the long grass and the seeds that stick to everything. We took our camping kitchen, comfortable camping chairs and an additional table for space and group meals, just because it gives us more of a sense of togetherness. Remember to take extra swimming towels as there is a pool. We took our bikes to let the kids ride around the spacious complex. Although this a little pricier than I would have preferred to pay it was still a clean, convenient and comfortable stay.

Let me start with the good-they were very accommodating with the changes in bookings and they left bottled water for us each day and the communal kitchen by the camping site was acceptable could do with more glasses or drinking cups. Unfortunately it was an overall unpleasant stay. The rooms are badly maintained. There was still food in the fridge from the previous occupants. The pipes made noises throughout the night, you can't switch the fan on because it sounds like a roaring engine and we weren't to confident that it was going to remain in tact through the night. The worst part was there lack of help. A rowdy group arrived a Friday evening at 10:30pm and were very intoxicated. They decided that to play music loudly in the car park was a great idea but considering all the rooms are next to the car park it wasn't so pleasant. There is a contact number in the room which I phoned, the woman's response was "I can't hear a noise so it must be at the other place" My husband proceeded to ask them to be considerate to which we found out that the majority were not even staying there but had just joined their friends-so much for security! They continued to shout and carry on. This was repeated at 1:30am Sunday morning. The cost of R800 per night for the room was not worth it. I consider it expensive and would look around Parys for alternative accomodation.

When leaving the establishment my thoughts were..that they wont see me again unless I can find something better. Positives: staff was friendly, room was clean and a awesome king size bed! it did tick the essential boxes!! Downer: The accomodation has a bit of a scruffy low end atmosphere. The rooms are tightly squeezed in line resembling something which could be converted to a stable in a jiffy. The plumbing made whale like noises. No toilet door could be bothersom to some couples or the more smell sensitive ones.. it comes down to you get what you pay for, but it is honestly not worth more than R500 per night.

Had lunch and walk around at all the art shops. got new idea's how to change things in the house. we had supper and left to Dome Inn where we stayed for the night. it is just outside Parys on the North West Province side of the Vaal River. it is an open area with bungalows, rooms and places for family's and to camp. is a swimming pool ample grass and trees to play. we stayed in a bungalows that can cater for four people. have a shower, toilet and washbasin. have a microwave, fridge, kettle, tv with certain Dstv channels to watch. it was a pleasant stay.

We felt very welcomed at the lodge and were impressed by the positive spirit displayed by the staff and their willingness to help us in any possible way. The linen at the halls however need some attention as it is good for children camping not so good for adults. May God increase their territory.

In fairness one should expect accommodation commensurate with the rate, and given rates today the Dome Inn gave what one could expect. Telephonic booking was courteous and efficient, and we appreciated that there was no charge for the night for which we had originally booked, and which was cancelled as a result of the rescheduling of the hot air balloon trip, our reason for going there, due to poor weather. A booking for the new date was readily given. It is conveniently situated for the various activities offered in the area, and to the town where there are good restaurants. Attractive décor and well serviced, but the room is very small, and it is strange to find a bathroom en suite with no door.

This is not a place to be recommended, even if it is for free. We (me and my wife) stayed there for one night (22/12/2014). The bad overshadowed the good by so far that all we are reminded of is the bad. When we checked in, the person at the reception though it was quite recommendable the fact that the Premier of the Free State and his entourage of 200 people stayed there the previous weekend. The person also though it was quite a feat that, when the Premier left, they had to pick up a bakkie full of the empty beer cans, even out off the swimming pool. That should have been a RED warning light for us but maybe the Premier is aware of the financial constrains of the government and probably his budget was tight, although bed only for two is a hopping R750 a night while the average in town is R300 (we thought double the price guarantees double the quality and standard!!!!!). Notwithstanding that the room had no air conditioning, which we were aware of when we checked in, the ceiling fan sounded like a two stroke engine and was unusable. The microwave still had some “pap” and meat in of the Premier’s entourage. The room is virtually an extension/part of the toilet/shower. It would probably be okay if you do not mind all the sounds and smell of somebody using the toilet in your “bedroom”. The shower curtain was thorn and I preferred to remove a dead cockroach in the shower before I used it. When we paid the morning before we departed (we had to go back in town to draw money because apparently their card machine is out of order for quite some time) we mentioned our dissatisfaction with the amenities. They offered us a full refund but we did not accept such as it is in principle wrong to use the facilities and then afterwards complain and expect and accept a full refund. That is plain sponging. An appropriate name for the amenities should rather be “The Stables to be Converted”. An fair star rating should not be more than the stars visible during a afternoon (sic) thunder storm on the Highveld of Mpumalanga. Please do not waste your time and/or money to prove us right.

The rooms are Ok and fairly clean. I was pleased to see electrical blankets on the single beds (we went during winter with two kids) but soon became annoyed because there were no electrical outlets anywhere near those beds. And we obviously did not bring along an extension cord. What really let this place down is the poor customer service. Whilst communicating with the office to make the booking the owners were efficient and polite. But once you arrive, they barely look up to hand you the keys, after which they offer some half-hearted directions (mainly "go down, make a left"). We had intended on staying two nights but after the first night, checked out. There are many other accommodation choices in Parys and whilst price is often one of the deciding factors, good customer service is not one to be compromised in my books.

We chose to camp at Dome Inn since it was conveniently located near the river rafting place we had booked with. When we arrived we had to phone for someone to come to reception and tell us where to set up, and that was the last we saw of anyone 'official'. Nobody checked our bookings or even asked for our names, so we could have arrived with more people than stated and nothing would've happened. Dome Inn is a nice little place, the camping area is small but quaint, and the braai area was great. The toilet and shower facilities were ok, but none of the locks worked on the toilet doors, so you had to ask a friend to hold the door or put something behind it. You might want to bring your own toilet rolls since they don't get replaced by staff too often. Overall, it was ok for one night, but for longer than that maybe rather book a room than camp.
