A great place to stay. Excellent location, walking route along the river right outside the front door. Heated pool open all hours with guest towels.
We stayed in the Rose room (Black room was mirror image) which had a balcony, sitting area, dressing room and en-suite bath+shower.
Only drawback of the Waterfront is old styling and old furnishings.

Recently had the opportunity to stay over at this guest house. Having a small dog with u, we opted for a flatlet which was attached to the garage. The guest house has a further seven spacious en suite rooms, including a honeymoon suite. Although the bedroom was fairly small, the flatlet contained everything to accommodate a family of three. A well fitted kitchen - no oven unfortunately - was well equipped to cater for a family. With air conditioning, DSTV and secure parking it was very comfortable. The heated swimming pool was certainly a plus. Situated right on the Vaal River, there are some lovely fishing spots, as well as easy walking routes. A big plus factor is the ever present owner, Mrs Annelie Malan, who, after twenty years, can still not do enough for her guests. She goes the extra mile to accommodate her guests. the whole staff complement seem to have the same enthusiasm and commitment to put the guests first. A lovely place for a few days of relaxing and an affordable break away.

We stayed at this guest house for two nights to attend a wedding in Parys. As we arrived early (11:00) we thought we'd see if we could check in. Our host (Annalie) then allready made a strange impression not really indicating when we could check in. After going for coffee down town (Parys is actually quite a nice town) we can back. Annalie then briefed me on the 'rules' of the guest house - do not switch the lights in the hallway off, do not use the front door, etc. However our room made up for this initial odd behaviour. We had the yellow room which was quite nicely furbished and spacious. There was also a swimming pool, but I had to take the cover off and put it back myself.

The really awkward moment was when we sat down for breakfast at 8:00 the next morning when Annalie greeted us....and disappeared. When she walked by again 10 minutes later and I informed if we were sitting at the right table she announced quite defensively that she was not making breakfast... We should have requested this the day before... Having cut our loses and chose to have breakfast in town, we saw to other couples staying in the same guest house drive by. Later we learned they had gone through the same embarrassing moment. One of these couples decided to cut their visit a day short as they did not feel like sponsoring this kind of behaviour.

That afternoon, I wanted to go for another swim with my daughter, but found the pool with a group of youngsters not staying in the guest house. They appeared to be family / friends of the host as she was sitting with them. Also other basic services were performed poorly. The room remake was limited to making the beds and upon requesting an iron and ironing board I learned that I could only get an iron.

In short, a nice location, nice rooms, but a host that does not comprehend the concept of hospitality.
