We received a 2 night Tava Lingwe from our son, as he was unable to make use of a “deal” he bought online. As it's a Game Lodge, from the outset I was excited to go, as I love Wildlife. The road leading to Tava Lingwe coming from Parys turn-off on the R59 is at present being tarred and widened and one should therefor add a bit of traveling time and take caution as there are big trucks and bulldozers on the gravel road. Our arrival we were welcomed with a huge smile by the Owner’s wife. This is a family owned Game Lodge, which have been in their hands for only 11 months, but I must quickly add that this adds to the great service level of Tava Lingwe, as it’s a hands-on approach. Dominique can be complimented for the Reservation and also her personal attention at Tava Lingwe. Add to this her husband, brother and father and one has a winning recipe, as they are all involved from serving breakfast, to taking one on a Game Drive or Champagne sunset. The chef Martin can be complimented, for a delicious breakfast, yummy steak, so well presented one would think one is in a 5 star hotel, to the canapes at sunset and our breakfast package when we departed. I’m a firm believer that a chef and food can make or break an establishment, be it ritzy hotel or 3 star. What was obvious, was the cleanliness of this Game Lodge, including pathways which were obviously swept. All pathways are well lit. The Nyala chalet we stayed in was clean, the décor tasteful and the double bed mattress in a good condition, which allowed one a good night’s rest. The chalet is self-catering, equipped with a microwave, kettle, crockery and a bar fridge. Towels are provided with a shower en-suite. There is under cover parking for 1 car. There is no TV in the chalet, which is a plus point, as it allows one to hear Jackal sounds at night and Lion roars too. On our second night, I was happy to hear 2 Owls hoot in a nearby tree. Birdlife is abundant. There is ample space for camping and caravans. I noticed some wooden cabins too. On arrival day, we were booked for a platter each at night, as a Charity event took place with live music. We thoroughly enjoyed the music by Willem van der Ryst, which got most people onto their feet, dancing the night away. Food and drinks are well priced. We thoroughly enjoyed the game drive with the Owner, which allowed us and hour and a half, including a stop at the Lions, who are all in a very good condition, named and close-up with the Lion cubs a bonus. Some Zebra, Giraffe, Impala, Kud, Blesbuck and Eland roam the Game Farm too. We were sorry to have missed the birth of the Giraffe, which was born the day after we left. Would’ve loved to have witnessed such a momentous experience. Snakes are found, as we noticed the owner’s son catch a Grass Snake. Hiking boots with protective leg gear is recommended, if you intend to walk the hiking trail. Remember to take a flashlight along, if you wish to walk from your chalet to the dining area at night. I envisage this as a perfect venue for a wedding in the bushveld, with the beautiful sunset as a backdrop for stunning photos. We enjoyed a beautiful Champagne sunset with Lions roaring in the background, with orange skies. We were dropped off to enjoy this moment alone and collected later by Dominique and her husband. This was a very special thought. I highly recommend Tava Lingwe, as it’s in close proximity from Parys and leisurely drive from Johannesburg.

What a great time we had!! We stayed in the family room suitable for two adults and two children. It was clean, neat and such a joy to be there! The staff and owners went out of their way to make our visit a memorable one. The pool areas were also clean and tidy, and the family really enjoyed it! The food is amazing! We had the picnic on the following day after our game drive (Oh my did we see beautiful animals), we had to take some for our trip home as we were all satisfied before the food ran out :). We will definitely be spreading the word! All in all a great place. P.s. remember mosquito repellent!!
