The hotel is beautiful, it is decorated with good taste and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Most of the rooms are located in small white houses, making the whole area looking like a small village with a well maintained garden. There is a large enough, but quiet pool area and an easy access to the beach.
We planned our trip to Crete on short notice and chose Caramel Boutique Resort because of its excellent rating and we were not disappointed. On our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the hotel manager and checked in by lovely Persa who offered us home-made drinks and fruit from the agrecofarm. Having booked a Caramel Suite, we received an upgrade to a larger room with two bathrooms and two balconies, which was very convenient. We also appreciated the fact that the air-conditioning was functioning efficiently. The room was very clean with enough hangers and drawers. Unfortunately we noticed that there was just one socket close to the sink and the mirror (in only one of the bathrooms) which, moreover, was unusable, as we couldn't connect our personal hairdryer (equipped with a standard "Schuko" plug). Furthermore, the hairdryer provided by the hotel was also unusable as it seemed to be a rather inefficient old model and close to its plug, the shealth was damaged, making the blue and brown coated electric wires visible. As we didn't dare to use it, we had to unplug one of the lamps next to our bed in order to use our own hairdryer (which luckily, is provided with a long cable) in front of the bathroom mirror. We cannot compare our room to other rooms of the hotel and don't know whether they are better equipped, but it is a pitty that the a suite (in a 5 star hotel) is that poorly equipped with electric sockets: even the equipment provided by the hotel (coffee machine, television etc.) had to be connected via additional double socket strips. We also had to unplug either one of the lamps or any another device in order to be able to charge at least two of our electronic devices simultaneously. Furthermore, the towels provided in our room were very small and we also missed bathrobes as well as a desk with a chair.
On the other hand, the service and friendliness of the staff at this resort were outstanding.
The breakfast and dinner buffet were provided with delicious food.
A special attention was given to the safety of the guests and the staff because of the pandemic. We appreciated the fact that every person eating at the restaurant had to wear a mask, disinfect her hands and put on gloves before going to the food buffet. Of course, when sitting at our table, we didn't have to wear the mask and the gloves.
As far as the beach is concerned, it is very clean and the equipment provided by the hotel is well maintained. However, the underground of the sea is predominantly rocky and therefore special bathing shoes are recommended.
At the beach and at the pool, towels are always available and free water bottles are provided several times a day.
All in all and in spite of the few minor flaws (which did not impair our overall impression), we had a wonderful week at Grecotel Caramel Boutique Resort.

We spent just two nights at the Caramel Grecotel in Rythmnon. We had the most fabulous room. (309). It had a private sun terrace above the main building with a hot tub and a distant sea view. The room itself was spacious with a comfortable bed, sofa and desk and it had a really large walk in wardrobe which meant, as we were only staying two nights, we could both just open our suitcases without totally unpacking and the mess was hidden from the room. The room was very quiet, no noise from any neighbours because the room was on its own. There was a lift opposite but no noise from that because we seemed to be the only people using it.
The beach was a very short walk. We hired a cabana on the beach for 80 euros a day. Which was lovely. There were plenty of sun loungers with umbrellas that were free and the cabanas around the pool were also free. There were a number of restaurants you can easily walk to from the hotel and the old town is a 15 minute taxi ride away. We did a yoga class in the morning which was great. I think they also run a stretch class in the afternoon. The food was great. Breakfast had everything you could want but the very best thing about the hotel was the staff. Oggy who remembered our names even though we were just passing through and remembered my husband was dairy free and made sure he got his porridge made with soya milk on day two without us reminding him. The wonderful Bersa at reception who helped us get taxis, get change, and who arranged our PCR tests even though we had already left the hotel and then helped me sort it out when the lab got my name wrong. She kindly rang the laboratory for me. She really was so helpful and super good at her job. The barman who made my husband a fresh banana Daquari even though it wasn't on the menu. They really did go the extra mile and it was much appreciated. Some of the best service we've ever had in a hotel.

We spent 10 days at the Grecotel Caramel. Upon arrivingl rather late we were warmly welcomed with fresh fruit drinks, Surprisingly, but very appreciated because we hadn't eaten for some hours, we were told that despite the kitchens already being closed, sandwiches were already waiting for us in our room.
That set the tone for the rest of our stay, superb service and a smile from all the staff. No one personified this more than Oggi who was always prepared to go even one step further.
Our room was spotless, comfortable, and quiet. Breakfasts were outstanding with an amazing selection of local and international dishes, including the various types of bread, made in-house. We did not eat dinner at the hotel, preferring to try out the various restaurants in Rethymnon town recommended by the reception and were never disappointed.
Other reviewers mentioned the need to wear shoes to go into the sea. It is worth mentioning the beach in front of the hotel was cleaned scrupulously every day.
We would highly recommend the Grecotel for couples who are looking for a holiday where they will be properly pampered!
Finally, we saw that floods hit the island in October and sincerely hope that Oggi, his staff, and families, as well as the Hotel and its beautiful infrastructure, were not badly affected.

We have just returned from a week’s holiday at the Caramel and from the moment we stepped into the grounds of the hotel, we received the very highest level of service and attention from EVERY member of staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The reception staff greeted us warmly every time we passed giving us advice when we requested it; the restaurant staff waited on us superbly, the cleaning staff were thorough in their work and maintained our room beautifully; the pool guy was attentive and always keen to help if we needed it….there was no one during our stay who did not give 100% . The hotel itself has a great layout and our room was spacious, secluded and exceedingly comfortable, the quality of the food at breakfast was excellent , all of which added enormously to the enjoyment of our holiday. Our abiding memory however will be of the incredible universal team approach to making each and every guest feel welcome and valued.

We had a wonderful 11 night stay at the Grecotel Caramel.

We were greeted by friendly staff, an immediate upgrade to a beautiful suite with its own garden, and a rather nice bottle of wine to ease our travel tension.

The resort is set out in an extremely pleasant manner, on an intimate scale. Due to its size and capacity, it is very relaxed and quiet; there were always vacant sun beds around the pool and on the hotel’s beach, which was less than a minute’s walk from our room. Both pool and beach were served by well stocked bars, and bottled water was plentiful and freely distributed.

The accommodation was extremely well maintained, by a staff of delightfully friendly ladies and gentlemen - we couldn’t have asked for more pleasant and diligent housekeepers. The same can be said for room service, which was provided in the most professional and friendly manner.

The food in all the bars and restaurants was uniformly excellent. There was always a varied and appetising selection from which to choose, and the table service was exemplary.

All of the staff that we met or encountered were pleasant, helpful and accommodating. Nothing we required was deemed too much trouble or a problem in any way. From reception to bar, room service to restaurant, every staff member went out of their way to make us feel valued and respected.

We had an incredibly relaxing, enjoyable time at the Caramel Boutique Resort, and will happily return again. As an aside (and without disrespect to all the staff), we would like especially to thank Vassiliki for her exceptional bar service, Giannis for room service and his friendly demeanour, Persa’s constant and endless attention in reception, and of course Oggi for his attentive, warm, and often hilarious interactions with us. But thanks to all the staff in all areas who made us feel so welcome.

We can happily recommend the Grecotel Caramel, and we look forward to returning soon.

It started in reception, the magic of this place. We arrived late at night so we’re offered sparkling wine and water along with moist towels to freshen us up. Registration was completed on the terrace and we were advised we had been upgraded to a sea view bungalow with its own jacuzzi . The accommodation (405) was fabulous . The hotel is beautiful day and night and is laid out like a little village. All the staff epitomise customer service and insist on helping you in every way. Breakfast was on the terrace every morning and included an extensive buffet as well as some al a carte items. Where else can you have a clarinetist serenade you over your breakfast.
We did not have dinner at the hotel as we had planned to eat out in local restaurants during our stay to get the local atmosphere. I thought the hotel buffet dinner was slightly expensive at 50 euros pp. We got a cab into the old town a few times and it is certainly worth the trip. It takes about 20 minutes and cost 13 euros. There are several reasonable restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.
The resort has its own beach and cabanas that can be hired for the day and also a beach bar where you can get drinks and meals if required. If you rent a beach bed they provide fresh fruit and soft drinks as well.
Many people dine around the pool in the evening and sometimes live musicisions are on hand to entertain. It is certainly a beautiful setting. Life guards are on duty by the pool and the beach.
It was painful to have to leave and come back to the real world but thank you to everyone at the hotel for a marvellous week.

This Grecotel is definitely among the nicest properties of the chain and also in the Rethymno area. The hotel itself is a nice oasis in the middle of a quite touristy area, 6km outside of Old Town Rethymno. It is well maintained and relatively quiet, the common areas are well groomed, the rooms are clean. One should be careful when booking though, because some of the rooms have views toward the back road and the other hotels across of it, which would probably be unpleasant. Upon our arrival we were offered a paid upgrade, which was nice. The breakfast was excellent and high quality. Lunch and dinner at the main restaurant are more average, though still high quality products are used. Given the proximity of the exceptional restaurants in Rethymno it is a personal matter of choice though, and the cab to town is only 13 Euro each way. The beach in front of the hotel is what one would expect in Greece, the loungers are fine, the service is a bit lacking but overall the experience is satisfactory. Generally I would highly recommend renting a car since there are a lot of nicer beaches in the area not far from the hotel and lot of excellent tavernas too, which will make the experience much more authentic.

The staff at the reception are amazing, I have only praise for them, as they went above and beyond to make our stay pleasurable. We received a lot of help from the excellent Irina and Katerina in organizing day trips and many other things, for which we are grateful.

There is room for improvement however, for example we were only left one small (500ml) bottle of water per day, so we had to constantly ask the reception to bring more. Considering the temperatures in Crete it is quite strange that such requests needed to be made on a daily basis and the whole thing is basically a nuisance. The cocktails at the bars were prepared with less alcohol than the recipes call for, which I guess brings some extra profit but again, should not be the case in a 5* hotel on the expensive side. A cocktail is in the 10 Euro range so I guess extra 10ml or so of very inexpensive alcohol to bring the taste to what it should be won't hurt the bottom line too much, but definitely hurt the experience a lot. I opted to drink wine instead, but such compromises should not be the case.

Overall we were quite satisfied with our stay and would repeat if we return to Crete, however, it would be nice if the hotel management take better care of the smaller details, which often make a lot of difference in the upper scale hotel experience.

I was able to enjoy a 5 night stay here near the end of the season and was literally sad to leave. From start to finish, I felt more like an honored guest than a vacationer. This place is super elegant, and the staff is wonderful.

Everyone seemed to take part in making the stay fantastic. Check in, restaurants, pool lunches, everyone was awesome especially Oggy and the very helpful lifeguards at both the pool and beach.

Rooms are spotless and nicely furnished. Beach is right on site, crystal clear water although a little pebbly rather than sandy, typical of the area.

I thought the pool area was great, and lounged and floated away to my heart's content.

Breakfast was awesome, they had everything you could want and more, and it was all fresh and tasty.

The town is a short drive away (maybe 10 minutes or so) and is a lively place for a bit of a change up.

I loved my stay and highly highly recommend the Caramel Grecotel Boutique Resort, and can't wait to go back someday. This is a first class place with first class people helping make your stay enjoyable. A++.

Awsome stay at Caramel Grecotel during our October stay. I have booked thru American Express Fine Hotel and Resorts and as a perk, on top of having a free breakfast for 2, late checkout and 100 euro hotel credit, we have been upgraded to a 2 story beachfront villa! The villa was very very nice, spotless, quiet and comfortable with 2 bathrooms.
The greeting when we arrive was special, it's the 1 st time in all my travels that we were offered 3 drinks each with some fruits during the check in process. It was relaxed, seated around a coffee table with view to the pool area.

The service at the hotel was exceptional, we didn't have to asked for anything since the personal was pro active to give or help us with something. As an example, the server brought us bottle water in a ice bucket when we sat down on the chair in front of the villa.
The beach in front of the Hotel was well groomed, still, it's not at all comparable to the white caribean sand but certainly a good spot in Crete. It looked to me that the beach in front of the hotel was better that the other hotels nearby and a lot less crowed.
It was windy while we were there and the hotel's lifeguard was seeing that nobody would enter the sea to far in the sea because of the waves were too big.

Persa the assistant manager took the time to be sure that we were satisfied and care that our needs were met. She was also helpful with our dinner reservation and gave us some information for our excursions in Heraklio.

The breakfast was high quality and had a lot of choices even more than the Tokyo Hilton which is my personal benchmark .

We stayed at the Caramel on our way to Heraklio but if we would have know better before going to Crete, we would have stayed a little longer.

We stayed at Caramel for a week with our 11 month old baby and we had the best time.
The staff is very friendly and professional. On top, they were incredibly sweet to our baby who loved being entertained by them.
Our family room was large enough for the three of us and it was always impeccably cleaned.
Buffet food is delicious with lots of options for everyone. Seriously better than you would get in a lot of restaurants. We also tried the a la carte restaurant one evening and it did not disappoint. Food was well presented and just lovely.
A nice touch was the live music, which was understated and tasteful. Our baby loved it too and danced in his high chair every time.
Pool is on the large side and not too crowded, so perfect for relaxing and sunbathing.
We would give this hotel 6 stars for customer service if we could. Everyone, but especially Manolis, Konstantina, Soula, Aristea, Sofia, Alexandros, Giorgios and Oggy were stars!! Any hotel would be lucky to have them on board because they make the place feel less like a hotel and more like a home.
Last but not least, many thanks to the chef for kindly making egg muffins for our baby!! Really unexpected...we were very impressed with the gesture.
We would definitely come back to Caramel.

Dear Mrs Ruxandra D, Warm greetings from Grecotel Caramel Boutique Resort ! Firstly, let me just say what a great pleasure it was to have you stay with us recently and thank you for taking the time to share your experience among other TripAdvisor readers. We smiled ear to ear when we learned that you had a relaxing family holiday, enjoyed yourselves, felt welcome and well taken care of. It also makes us glad to learn that you valued the cleanliness levels of our property, our accommodation service team is working hard to maintain these high standards and they value your recognition. Additionally, highlighting food options on offer is much appreciated too and your praising words will be, surely, passed on to the kitchen team who puts in a lot of energy and passion into what they love to do everyday. Furthermore, we would like to thank you for mentioning our evening programme too, Grecotel's entertainment department invests a lot of time so to choose "handpicked" local artists & and carry out tasteful sessions for our guests, therefore we are so grateful that you have enjoyed it! Dear Mrs Ruxandra D, a unique beachfront location and well-designed facilities would be nothing without a warm and thoughtful human connection, so we are thrilled to hear that our team made you feel so welcomed and are pleased to know you would rate our service with 6 stars! I'll be sure to pass on your lovely feedback to Manolis, Konstantina, Soula, Aristea, Sofia, Alexandros, Giorgios, Oggy, Ex. Chef Nikos and the rest of the team here as I know they will be delighted to hear it! On behalf of this amazing team, I would like once again to share a big "Efcharisto" for choosing Caramel as well as for sharing your kind comments. We'll stick to your last sentence and hope to get the chance of giving you a warm "welcome back" in the near future. Wishing you a happy & restful summer season. I am practically sure the pool is not heated. Mid October is quite late in the season. Weather could be getting colder, unless you are very lucky. It is a very nice hotel.
