I fully recommend this truly amazing resort! The staff and everyone are first class we we’re greeted at reception by Taner the rooms manager who is very professional and is an extremely friendly chap. Breakfast is superb, rooms are very spacious and clean and very well kept. I really cannot fault this resort in anyway, perfect location close to the beach one way and boutiques/bars and restaurants the other way about 15 minutes walk. The hotel is having a revamp, which I’m extremely excited to see when we return next year.

We've been coming here for the past 5 years and every year it seems to be getting worse. This summer it was quite noticeable. Breakfast had less options and options with less quality (ex: very few local products and a lot of supermarket staples), decor is severely outdated (who still uses fake flowers in the room???), pool restaurant menu (ex: they used to have fresh grilled fish even in the kids menu - this is no longer the case) and finally the beds/mattresses are horrible and uncomfortable. The sofas as TVs in the room as from the 1990. For me personally the mattresses were a real issue as I woke up every morning with back pain. We talked about these with the staff and we also noticed that some of the staff we knew from previous years were super helpful and attentive (ex: we mentioned the lack of local cheese in the breakfast and the following day they brought us some - this is going above and beyond). We also had wifi issues in the room and the same evening they installed a router in our room - that was great! The newer staff were less helpful and some were actually incompetent and should never be working in hospitality let alone a 5-star hotel. One kid in particular never cleaned up at breakfast or around the pool when kids dropped ice cream or juices as they are prone to do. He managed to get our lunch order mixed up twice in the same meal - and we speak fluent Portuguese!! The monitors at the kids club were also lacking basic empathy skills. My wife approached the club with our daughter and the first thing the monitor said was "let me see your ID/passport and parents are not allowed" - definitely bizarre! She got my wife to walk away which maybe was the objective... After further discussions with the staff we learned that the management is changing yet again. The management has been taken over by a British group and will move to Wyndham after the summer. They do have refurbishment plans, which is good but I also understood they will bring some changes like a buffet lunch which honestly is possibly the worst idea for a 5-star hotel at Quinta do Lago.... perhaps it will appeal to the American customer and if it works good on them but you won't find me there I'll leave my advice to Wyndham as part of this review - make it Portuguese authentic: real food and real hospitality and you'll be booked all year round

Dear Viajante Mundial, may I thank you very much for taking your time to review us. Reviews are vital to us, surely as a highly respected and repeated guest like you. I apologize deeply that not everything was up to your expectations. However I´m very happy to inform you that Monte da Quinta Resort will be completely refurbished by the end of this year. Works should be finalised beginning of next year. All suits will get a luxurious light, modern and state of the art furniture and technology. The same for our gym which will be replaced with all new ultra modern fitness equipment. It is also correct that the Resort will be branded by the end of this year. This also ensures a Internationally high standard service and atmosphere. Bearing in mind the truth Portuguese values and pureness. In regard of our Menu´s I can assure you that there will be no Buffet lunches in the Resort other than our a la carte menu´s in our several outlets. It is expected to organise high standard Buffet dinners with traditional Portuguese dishes. We are really looking forward choosing us again on your next trip to Portugal and see but better enjoy our new looks and equipment. On behalf of the entire Team, thank you and hopefully till soon. Maarten de Boer General Manager

We have just returned from our first stay at Monte De Quinta and I am amazed that previous customers have rated it 5*!!! Rooms are tired and dark, air con did not work correctly, shower door leaked leaving pool of water every day, chipped glass which I left out was washed and put back in cupboard, breakfast very poor choice with only one toaster which had no handle to get bread in or out - surely a safety issue? Staff at pool bar totally ignore you and stand together chatting amongst themselves. On the plus side it is in an excellent location and the reception staff were always welcoming and helpful. I can only assume the refurbishment will bring it back to a 5* hotel.

Dear Family, our sincere apologizes that not all was perfectly fine; your notes have our highest attention. Maintenance however is 24/7 available to eliminate any unforeseen situations. It is correct that all Suites of our Resort will be completely refurbished last quarter of this year. The project should be finished in March next year and are looking forward to see you back again. Warm regards, Maarten de Boer, General Manager

My 9 year old son and I were allocated to this hotel by default due to another hotel double booking. Although disappointed we did not get to stay in our first choice we were not disappointed at all. Spacious two bedroom suite that was cleaned impeccably every day. Staff were helpful and mostly friendly. We only ever had breakfast and cannot fault any part of this. Cocktails were reasonable priced and my favourite part was they moved towels after 30 minutes if people decided to put them down on loungers and go away for the day! Love this! The location is within walking distance of "movies in the park" and "picnic in the park" must haves if you are there in August! No complaints at all about our stay. Would definitely stay again.

Just returned from a week in a Garden Room Suite. Room layout good - separate bedroom space for adults and child a great draw. However, the Bed-Settee was in an awful condition. The fold out mechanism was buckled and warped, with sharp metal joints protruding. Fair to say our 5 year old didn’t get 1 good night’s sleep. F&B offering was terrible. Breakfast was decent, but after that - forget it! 1 kids menu available across all outlets, with only room service food option between 5pm (when pool side bar/cafe stops serving food) and 6.30pm - when the only evening food option (in a 5* Resort???) opens - with the same kids menu. So zero option other than room service between 5pm and 6.30pm - key dining time for infant children. No kids menu advertised in room for room service, had to go to the main restaurant and request a photocopy of theirs... Above all else - The Staff... Never have I encountered such apathy and lack of genuine customer service. It feels as though the whole team have just given up, awaiting their fate as and when the much vaunted “Refurb” begins. Now, Mr Hotel Manager, please do not patronise me with your usual defence of “once the refurb is completed we look forward to seeing you here again” etc... Please understand, our annual family holiday was last week, not post-Refurb, and we have every right to expect You and Your Team to re-double your efforts to minimise the lack of real 5* style and atmosphere, rather than you all stop looking after your guests and their needs until such time as the Refurb occurs. In my view, it is the Staff and The Management of this establishment that are in greater need of “Refurbishing”, rather than the structure of the building....

Dear Mr. Colin Greensmith and Mrs. Catriona Ryan, we sincerely apologize that the Bed Settee for your son Will was not up to standards. Our Front Office, Housekeeping and Maintenance Department is 24/7 on Duty and so available to assist in any case to ensure to exceed guest expectations. However their are 2 different Special (healthy) Kids Menu´s available with several dishes you have a good point to implement these as well in the extensive Room Service Menu.

I would definitely hire a car. The hotel is a bit isolated as it is surrounded by golf courses so you would need to do a lot of walking without a car. As has been said the pool bar at the hotel is OK for drinks and snacks but I think the hotel is quite expensive for food and drink. There is a small café/restaurant about 10 mins walk up the road and you can watch golfers teeing off in front of you. However I would shop at the Apolonia supermarket on the western outskirts of Almancil. Its excellent. There is a smaller supermarket and restaurants in the shopping complex on the road to the hotel. Make use of the facilities in the suite. If you hire a car I would recommend going East of Faro to Tavira - an interesting small town and, if you and the children like beaches, to Fuzeta. The town isn't much but there is a massive extent of sand and a quieter area of the far side of the Ria. Enjoy!
