This backpackers is a hidden gem in McGregor. Dorothy and Geoff the owners have created a welcoming friendly home away from home for their visitors. It seems no request is too much! The room was comfortable and offered everything you could need. There are three resident dogs who are as friendly as their owners. Definitely gets a big thumbs up
Myself spent a week in the small town of Mcgregor. Geoff and Dorothy, I have to thank as they are two amazing hosts. the garden is a wonderful place to relax and the fire pit is great spot to share stories and to talk about the day with a beer or a glass of wine in your hand. will be back soon
My two grown up sons and I spent New Years in this fantastic backpackers. The hosts are very friendly, flexible and easy going, the rooms and the dormitory are impeccable and the garden is a marvelous spot for sociable gatherings under the wonderful African starlit night. We will surely be back! Thanks Geoff and Dorothy
Iliska & De Villiers Wedding weekend Thank you Geoff and Dorothy for making us feel so welcome. We stayed in the The Bottlebrush Room. The rooms are very neat and we enjoyed our morning coffee and conversation in the courtyard. We had a lovely time and will come visit again. We recommend the backpackers to anyone traveling to McGregor. xx Netta and Rosie
We enjoyed a lovely weekend in McGregor, thanks to Dorothy and Geoff. They were the perfect hosts and we will definitely return. Every effort was made to ensure that we were comfortable and Geoff even braaied our meat for us!
My wife, who is a Thai middle class princess, always accuses me of being a "truck driver" and hence staying in "truck driver" lodgings. So we reached an agreement: Whenever we travel together and with our daughter, she books the places to stay. But when I travel solo, of course I choose my spots. My theory is this: When I travel solo, I want to experience as much as possible that the place has to offer. The food, the wines, the activities. Of course that all comes at a price. So i look for a clean bed to sleep in at an affordable price. And no dorms, i'm too old for that. So when I booked at McGregor Backpackers, of course I checked tripadvisor etc, and it all looked nice. When I phoned Dorothy, she was extremely friendly. I pictured a nice old couple. When I arrived there, two…
We enjoyed our stay very much, Dorothy and Geoff are the most friendly and welcoming people, they went out of their way for us. The room was spotless and beautiful, as is the courtyard, with its plants and water. We were offered fresh free range eggs and organic tomatoes for our breakfast, free off charge. If you're in McGregor, just stay at the Backpackers.
Dorothy and Geoffrey are very friendly hosts, and the hostel itself is one of the best I have stayed in. Everything is very well kept and it is has a quirky style. Selection of dorms and double or single rooms with free WiFi and kitchen facilities. Highly recommended to anyone.
Absolutely wonderful! That's my opinion of the McGregor Backpackers after spending 2 nights there in March. Bed was very comfy, room very clean, no bugs and a very nice homy feeling. Breakfast was a delight and I got to order almost anything I could wish for. Ended up with a nice fruitsallad, rooibos tea, orange/mango juice, homemade bread, one of the best cheese omelettes I've ever had and really great ham. It was so good I ordered the same both mornings. The garden is a haven of tranquility and nearby is the wonderful Temenos. And the couple who runs the place where the sweetest. Very caring and nice to hang out with but not in that superficial way you sometimes get. No, these guys are for real and I for one will go back. Have you ever seen a 3 legged dog? Go there, they've…
Now here we have a true must for anyone from backpackers to older chaps like us who needed somewhere to stay. My wife's aunt in McGregor recommended this and Geoff and Dorothy and their little place truly were one of our best places we stayed in. It is self catering but forget that if you want because there were nice places for you to eat and be merry in town. To crown the whole thing, they called my on my 60th birthday and sang "Happy Birthday" to me. Now that is what I call a truly service orientated place. Have fun and please go there! Sean
