We decided to hike the Boesmanskloof Hiking Route from Greyton to McGregor and back. With the hiking accommodation fully booked, we were referred to McGregor Backpackers. What a stunning alternative! To start with - communicating with Dorothy was such a pleasure. Not only did she give us excellent advice on the hiking but also assisted greatly with finding a restaurant for dinner and even purchasing our breakfast goodies - as there is no proper shop in McGregor to get groceries. She also accommodated our changes - as our group grew bigger - with a smile Our hike too much longer than planned due to extreme heat and difficulty - but Geoff was so accommodating on changing the pickup time. We are SO happy to see him at the end of a hectic 15km walk. The accommodation was absolutely

Hello Monique, Thank you so much for your very kind words. Hikers are a special breed of people, walking here and there with just a backpack on their backs, taking on the world with such enjoyment. It gives us so much pleasure to serve them and see them enjoy a good supper and some lovely wine around our fire pit, to hear their stories, to supply plasters for those blisters and a little something for those aching muscles. Every group has a different tale to tell, each and every one unique and personal. We hope sometime you and your group will come back and spend more than one night. Walk well Dorothy and Geoff

I have just had the pleasure of two nights accommodation at the McGregor backpackers. The property is ideally situated just a few minutes walk from the main street in the town. The whole property is scrupulous clean, the rooms very well appointed and comfortable. Dorothy and Geoff were simply the finest hosts with useful information about McGregor and the surrounding area. I was made to feel very welcome from the moment I arrived. The kitchen/communal areas were well serviced to meet all my needs. I could not recommend a stay here more highly; extremely good value for money!

The hosts were very friendly. We stayed on a Sunday night and had the whole place to ourselves. The garden is really tranquil and has a great space for sitting with a glass of wine or reading. There is free wifi and a fully stocked kitchen. We were given a prepared fire to braai on,because there are no restaurants open on a Sunday night in Mcgregor.Lots of artistic touches to the house eg mosaic work.Very clean.

This accommodation was recommended by a family member from the area and lived up to its promise. As 'seniors', backpacker accommodation wouldn't normally be our first choice but although ours was only a one night stay had it been possible we'd have gladly extended our visit. Communication with the owners was prompt and friendly and very welcoming, from our initial enquiry onwards, and pricing very reasonable. Our room was spacious, with a very comfortable queen-sized bed, good bed linen, spotless en suite bathroom, little patio of its own - all well maintained. The common indoor area of pub (not licenced), sitting room with TV, dining area and extremely well equipped kitchen were all equally clean and neat. Most rooms are situated around a large central courtyard with koi

Thank you Dorothy for your very kind review of our Backpackers. As we live on the premises we can take for granted the beauty that surrounds us every day. When we receive reviews such as yours we once again see through the guests eyes and are humbled. We are constantly striving to make our backpackers better and better without loosing that country feeling. We hope you will both come back in the not too distant future. All the best for the rest of 2016

Hello Dawieda, Thank you for your thoughtful review. Before Geoff and I retired to start our backpackers we did a lot of camping and caravanning and our years out there taught us a lot about what people need in those situations. Hot, strong showers being one of them and plenty of hooks and rails to hang your things on in the bathroom without having to put them on the floor and foot towels. Simple things really but they go a long way to make a guests stay more pleasant. We hope when you come to our side of the world again we will be your place of choice. Kind regards Dorothy and Geoff
