Back for more in McGregor and as always Geoff and Dorothy at the McGregor Backpackers were amazing and definitely a must stay place in McGregor. We will be back in 2019. The serenity of the venue and friendliness of the hosts makes one feel welcome and they will always go out of their way to be helpful and make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
We stayed with our little camper in the lovely garden behind the house. Dorothy and Geoff welcomed us warmly and made us feel at home immediately. We had a bathroom for us and profited from the lovely garden and the well equipped kitchen. Everything is spotless and cosy. We had planned to stay 2 nights but ended up with 4. We shred a great Braai one evening with Geoff as super Braai master and we enjoyed Dorothy’s delicious rusks with our tea in the morning and even left with a box of it! We really feel that we came as guests and left as friends. Too bad that we live so far away...
We were made extremely welcome and every detail was taken care of here. We were fetched from the end of the days hike as well as being taken to the start point the next day, and we were able to arrange that groceries were waiting for us at the backpackers. Thank you very much!
Ok ... Hope I got your attention with the SHOCKING comment... We love travelling all over and have stayed in numerous backpackers in the last couple of years........ some bad, some OK ..... But this one was EXCELLENT! Really excellent... Clean, good quality and very organised..... The owners live on site and it is obvious that they live by the comment .. if it is not good enough for us, it is not good enough for our guests... kitchen well equipt ... Bedroom large and clean! They would un-obtrusively inquire if you have any needs and really love helping out.... Yes! .. We have raved about this place to all we meet.... This is how a backpackers should be run ... with pride and passion! Well done .. Dorothy and Geoff... !!! Proudly South African.
When I was searching the net for accommodation in McGregor; I simply, by default, overlooked McGregor Backpackers, purely on grounds of the fact that, during my 20's, I spent many months in various backpackers in London and New Zealand and; based upon my experiences, these were typically rather noisy, overcrowded, pretty basic dormitory type 'digs', predominantly occupied by party going 20-somethings. So I didn't even consider looking at it as an option. Until a friend told me it wasn't really a backpackers, but rather, more of a guesthouse - at half the price of accommodation of an equal standard one would otherwise pay for in McGregor. And he was entirely right: I spent 5 weeks there in a fabulous, quaint, cottage style, large en suite bedroom with my own entrance and…
