Detailed Reviews
My wife and I spent a quiet evening in the High Hopes Chalet, surrounded by a beautiful garden, to end our quick trip through the Klein Karoo. The service was friendly, and the room was clean and excellently appointed. From a location point of view, it is on the edge of Greyton, and it is easier to drive than walk to the centre of town, but this does add to the experience. We will revisit when in the area!

Hi Riaan It was a pleasure to have you and your wife drop in at High Hopes en route to your home towards the end of your trip. Thank you for your kind words and appreciation. Do come and enjoy it here for a bit longer now that you know how near we are to Cape Town. I look forward to seeing you both next time. You are always welcome.

The excitement in travelling to a new destination often presents a limited opportunity to notice and appreciate the little things. Caught up in the moment we can often overlook those special little ingredients that combine with the first impression to make a truly memorable getaway. Returning to a memorable place, enjoying a level of satisfaction and relaxation comparable to that first trip is special in itself. It speaks to the place, those special ingredients and the owners that present it .... we will gladly return again in future for these reasons. Another fabulous weekend getaway.

The personnel were so friendly, everything was clean, adequate with some extras. Beautiful, peaceful setting, highly recommendable. Far enough from town for a well-deserved rest but close enough to enjoy all the restaurants. You will definitely see us again!

The owner was very welcoming. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated and extremely neat. We had a peaceful night's rest in a large and comfortable king-size bed. The breakfast was unique and delicious. I would highly recommend this B&B. It is worth the money.

My partner and I had a wonderful time at High Hopes. It's in a great location. Very peaceful. Top dinner / breakfast. Wonderful hosts to boot! I'd highly recommend this experience, even for just a night or weekend like we did.

• The swimming pool was not available (“it is being relined and will be filled next week” according to the owner). Clearly the pool had not been in use for weeks or months being partly filled with dirty water and leaves.
• The outside glass table was dirty.
• The carpet in the bedroom was dirty.
• No soap was provided.
• The tap water for washing was dirty. We read in the local paper that water pipes to the village had been damaged by the November floods and were awaiting repair: so we would expect the guesthouse to provide clean bottled water for drinking. This was not done.
We checked out after only one night but paid for two on the insistence of the owner
We felt that guests were subservient to the owners' main policy of getting on with their lives unconnected with the guesthouse.

We had High Hopes of this establishment upon reading reviews. The rooms are spacious but the overall feeling is one of grubbiness. The whole place needs a thorough cleaning, especially the bathrooms. Like it or not, cats will be sharing your space. Breakfast was good if somewhat small.

The owners and staff are warm and lovely, but we were disappointed in the standard of the room "sold" as luxury. The bath is super small and old, and for what we paid vs the standard of the room, it is not luxury, but very standard. The breakfast was terrible. 4 course ended up being scrambled eggs on toast, as breakfast is vegetarian with no option of variety to choose from. We loved the garden, its enchanting and beautiful, and as nice as the owners are, it unfortunately doesn't outweigh High Hopes as being expensive for average accommodation.

A fantastic spot to unwind and detox - I highly recommend a weekend away here. They offer wellness retreats, kinesiology, massage, reiki and much more - and lovely breakfasts too! On top of that, Greyton is a superb place to visit - like stepping back a hundred years...

"I stayed in both Violet and Buttercup and was thrilled with both - the rooms are furnished in different styles, but both had excellent bathrooms, very comfortable beds, a great supply of books, extra wool rugs and throws, interesting and beautiful art works, furnished patios, wood-burning fireplaces and satellite television. Just heavenly. Pick a room ... any room!"Read full review
