All animals have the right to roam in Namibia, so the landing strip in this remote corner of Namibia is not fenced. Arriving by air your pilot will make a low pass to scatter the Oryx, Zebra, Ostrich and anything else that may be hanging around on the stoney strip.
Aside from being a sensible safety precaution it is the best white-knuckle ride at 30 feet off the deck anywhere outside of a theme park!!

The briefest of transfers ends with a choral welcome, cold towels and a cool drink.

If Philippe Stark did desert lodges, he would have done this one. Contemporary African aesthetic is designed into the fabric of this place. At every turn it takes your breath away. It is beautiful.

In the last ten years this place has undergone a major facelift. Your room, err… suite, err…studio room (there is no way to define them) has a private pool, sun deck, indoor and outdoor shower, art materials, binoculars…and the list goes on.

Cleverly wi-fi is normally only available in your room. This makes the communal areas a place for conversation, reflection and communion with the landscape, each other, and the animals. The animals arrive almost in turn to drink from the watering hole just 20 metres from the deck. I think that Insta feed can wait - don’t you?

Here you are in the land of red sand. The sand has a high iron content and over time it has oxidised turning deep red. This aspect of the landscape has been designed into the building with the installation of huge iron screens and other cladding. In harmony with the rest of the environment they too are slowly oxidising.

If you are able to drag yourself away from the lodge Elia and KK will take you to the most beautiful spots, climb Big Daddy with you, while Christoff, Petrus and the whole team look after each and everyone of your needs. The food is of course sublime and just being here for a day will make such a huge impression on you. (We stayed two!)

Namibia is a great place to star-gaze the southern skies. Did I say that there is usually a resident astronomer here?? Well there is, and Frank took us on a journey through space and time with the powerful telescopes on site. Amazing.

There is not a high enough rating to give this place.

We have been on an epic two week journey around this country (see other reviews), and this is one of the best places I have stayed, anywhere in the world - so far!

Do not regret leaving this off your itinerary

THIS is where you can find serenity and overwhelming quiet in the Namib desert, expect a fully stocked bar and an infinity pool that pops against the desert sand. Every staff- Norman, Michelle,George, Esther and many others whom I cannot remember their names now, they give you all the attention you'd ever need, bringing luxury to a whole new level under such difficult terrains. Kudos to the architects who designed this lodge to capture the splendour and solitude of the desert, with an in-room skylight offering a view of the Milky Way from your bed.
The desert activities will keep you occupied for sure, we had so much fun on the quad bikes, riding through sand dunes and exploring the vast landscape, it was my favourite activity! The only drawback was - no wifi anywhere else except in your room, reason being they'd like everyone to mingle and interact over meals. But during the time I was there, no one did haha!
Oh the massage was slightly disappointing too, maybe it was too traditional for me, halfway through I was perspiring nonstop and somehow couldn't breathe, never happened to me before. Maybe the weather was just too intense as we visited the property during summer where temperatures really soared!

I truly think this must be the best hotel in the world. I cannot think of a way to make it any better. It is expensive for sure, but when you are there, it actually feels like you're getting every bit of that value out of it. The attentiveness, service, kindness of the staff is endless. The beauty of the lodge and of the rooms is indescribable. The room was so well stocked, so lovely to be in, that you are constantly torn about leaving your room (it is more of an apartment than a room, honestly). The touches like the ice cubes pre-made with lemons and grapefruit slices for your in-room cocktail bar or the sky light that allows you to sleep looking at the stars go on and on. Then they just make it even better. There is an observatory with the best stars you can imagine (it feels like being in a planetarium), an astronomer to teach you about what you're seeing. The food is amazing and constant. They create a privacy and intimacy to your visit that makes you feel like the whole place is just there for you.

Then, the icing on the cake is the activities. Each of the activities we did are things we would have paid hundreds of dollars for if we booked them individually, yet they are included. You get to know your guide, and he takes you hiking dunes one day, ATVing the next, for e-biking, sundowners, and more. There are surprises at every corner.

Truthfully, if you're wondering if you should go, stop wondering and get there as soon as you can. You need three nights, but the more the better.

We stayed at AndBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge during the weekend of March 26-28 for 2 nights. This was the best service we experienced in Namibia thus far, and since our move to Namibia more than 6 months ago, we have gone to many lodges and hotels here. Everyone at the lodge from the manager to the butler, to your driver, to a gift shop hostess, make sure that you enjoy every minute at the lodge to the fullest and they cater to all of your needs and wishes. We had an amazing dinner under the stars in the desert just for 2 of us and this was absolutely unforgettable experience! The food and wine selection was really great and of the highest quality, especially given the fact that this place is in the middle of the desert and logistics of getting things there are not easy. Special thanks to Manager Norman, our personal guide Immanuel and our Butler for making our stay so memorable and so enjoyable.

Where to start ? &Beyond’s Sossusvlei desert Lodge exceeded all our expectations!

We stayed three nights during our honeymoon tour through Namibia. And we kept being surprised time after time.

Looking at the scenery you might think you’re on Mars looking at those red mountains and Dunes.

Let’s start with the rooms and amenities. The rooms are super well designed and have all private pool and terrace, inside and outside viewpoint showers, a fireplace, an extensive bar, and a roof window so that you can look at the stars from your bed.

The lodge offers a variety of activities, including nearby Deadvlei with ascension of big daddy. It’s a little effort but the views at the top are worth it !

The quad in the desert is so much fun, as is the e-biking from the lodge. Very close by you can go on a hot-air balloon trip (absolutely recommend), and so on.

Every activity comes with an on-site breakfast/drink, which just adds up to the experience.

The service is wonderful and people are so kind. Our guide, Mike was the best. He thought of every detail and would go the extra mile at all times to make our moment just unforgettable!

I would suggest asking the lodge manager, Norman, about the sustainability aspects of the lodge as those are just incredible. &Beyond really thought of everything when renovating the lodge a few years ago to limit its impact on the surrounding environment.

Finally, I would recommend staying at least 3 nights to enjoy the many opportunities the lodge has to offer.

The Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is absolutely gorgeous. The rooms are more modern than most you may encounter on a safari which we enjoyed! The pool is incredible and we loved just sitting outside looking at the nature and watering hole. Our trip got off to a bit of a bumpy start when our flight from Windhoek got cancelled because of weather so we decided to slide everything by a day and we're glad we did! You definitely want as much time at this resort as possible. I'm a bit of a picky eater so it was my fault for not notifying the team ahead of time of my preferences but the food is very upscale and they weren't as open to modifying the menu as some other lodges. The activities the lodge has to offer is endless and there is something for everyone. Our favorite was the quad biking which was did in the evening and again in the morning before our flight to leave. So fun! Definitely recommend this lodge and the team is wonderful.

Without question, our three-night stay here was one of the best travel 'stays' of my life. And I've stayed in plenty (good, bad and indifferent) in my longish life. This ranks near the top. Firstly, its isolated location (with perhaps the closest lightbulb from our room's view being 200 km away to the south) in an otherworldly, primordial landscape heightens the sense of uniqueness. Add to that the exceptional personal service, sleek contemporary design at every turn, sublime food with atmospheric dinners (at three different locations during our three-night stay), superb tours, and last but certainly not least, the complimentary 45-minute helicopter ride over the vast array of sand dunes elevated it way past 'next level'. We didn't keep track of the number of times we mouthed the word 'wow' during out stay, but it was frequent. Yes, it's pricey. Worth every penny? Absolutely.

For ratings context….we were at Okonjima, Mowani, Shipwreck, Pelican Point, and andBeyond Sossusvlei.

It’s one of the best hotels in the world. If you can stay here, stop thinking and stay here. I don’t have much new to say.

How long to stay: 2-3 nights. There are plenty of things to do for 3 nights, and it’s a heavenly place to just stay and hang out at the room as the rooms are phenomenal.

Rooms (6/5): Yes, 6 out of 5. Everything was beyond perfect. Ultra-modern. Absolutely stunning. Perfection in the details. Just as an example, there was square ice cubs frozen with garnishes to make the perfect G&T in your freezer as well as round cubes for whiskey. That is the level of perfection and detail at this hotel.

Location (5/5): The location is stellar and every room has amazing views.

Food (5/5): This was the best plated and most elaborate of meals we had. I have no idea how they source everything, but it was 5* quality food despite being in the middle of nowhere.

Service (5/5): The service was perfect and everything was seamless. If I had a single criticism of the hotel, it was that the service was too formal and uptight/pretentious. The staff was executing perfectly, but didn’t feel laid back or casual at all.

We are forever grateful to Christine from &Beyond who managed all our accommodation and transport needs for our wild Namibian elopement at &Beyond Sossusvlei and curate a post-wedding stay at Walvis Bay with an excursion to Sandwich Harbour.

We had demanding needs for rooms for a party of 6, all with different travel requirements and a postponement. Christine did an amazing job managing and finalising our bookings.

Christine also assisted with all enquiries about the wedding ceremony and was in extensive communication with our wedding planner, florist and the lodge. No question was left unanswered and she did such an amazing job! Thank you Christine. You are a star!

The transport was seamless, the accommodation was breathtaking and the excursions and activities were fabulous!

The staff at &Beyond Sossusvlei were amazing! They went above and beyond (pun intended) for us and made our stay truly memorable. The effort, passion and love that the staff put into our wedding ceremony made our hearts jump and is something we are forever grateful for. From custom-making an arch for the florals, to setting up in a secluded spot, to helping transport all the things, making a wedding cake and cooking a set menu sur place, arranging a surprise quad bike ride and oysters in the desert to a romantic room set up.

Thank you! You made our elopement something so so special that was beyond out wildest imagination.

We highly recommend &Beyond for all your travel wishes!

Truly a great experience throughout. Andbeyond raises the bar for a perfect hotel stay. There was meticulous attention to detail throughout, like pre-staging a bottle of wine in our room that we enjoyed during check in, that goes above and beyond the level of service seen in most hotels. Beyond that, the grounds and rooms are perfect.

A few shoutouts:

‘Thank you, for being all around the best guide, photographer, and showing us how to find desert spiders

Franz, for keeping our glasses overflowing, and educating us at the same time. You’re the best, even if you’re the only, sommelier in Namibia

Giraffe, for generally taking care of us in every way, but particularly making sure we always had extra bread

Jo, for making sure everything ran amazingly

Thank you all again for the best stay, already looking at our next andbeyond trip!

Hi. I think you go on the And Beyond website and contact And Beyond directly rather than the lodge itself. And Beyond can answer everything about the And Beyond lodge in Namibia. It is a great lodge with wonderful people. FYI: It may be closing for several months for renovations soon so make sure to ask about that when you call. Jay
