Hospitality is my job and career. I worked for one of the best hotels and resorts across Canada. I always pay attention to the smallest details and as professional expect top service. After staying at Sonnenalp I can say with the full confidence- it is the BEST resort I ever been to by far. Style, ambiance, atmosphere, cleanliness were absolutely exeptional. Every corner of the resort is comfortable and has warm homy touch. But the most important is - STAFF. Super friendly, helpful and always meet you with the smile. They treat each and every guest as a unique individual. Here you always feel special. The food was something: from health, incredibly tasty breakfast options on the breakfast buffet- finishing fine dining at the evening. Out waiter Haiko and crepe chef Joseppe made every dinner above and beyond. Cannot wait to come back to Sonnenalp and will always recommend this amazing place to everyone.

We absolutely loved our stay at Sonnenalp this autumn. The place has become quite big with so much to offer but has remained super charming and familiar. Thank you for always being friendly and offering various activities (tennis, gym, physio, golf, pools, huge spa, restaurants, shops, and much more) we wish we'd had more time to enjoy. Absolutely stunning place. 🙏

Great place to visit during the summertime! The outdoor facilities like the Pools and bike possibilities are great! The food in all restaurants was great! Also during breakfast lot of choices and high quality products. The wine tasting was very special, the sommelier was very sympathic. We’ve booked a superior room, can be a little bit small with a teenager. There is still room for improvement. The reception can be more effective, it took more then 20 minutes to get the bill. With room prices around 800/1000 euro per night we expect that the minibar like soft drinks are included. Same for the additional cost like bike rental and daily child program.

I’ve been coming to Sonnenalp for the last 30 years. I first came with my parents and now I take my wife and 3 children. Everyone in the family looks forward to our week in Sonnenalp every August. We do not golf but we run the trails, hike, rent their e-bikes, and enjoy their huge pools and sauna area. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Staff is service oriented and there is little staff turnover. Every evening we sit down for exquisite dinners prepared to the highest standards. The highlight at the end of every evening meal is a crepe from the crepe station and the famous Giuseppe. Sonnenalp is one of our top favourite destinations.

This place is the sister property to the one of the same name in Vail, Colorado. It sits in a picturesque little Bavarian town just off the Autobahn called Ofterschwang. We enjoyed our stay in Sept. 2017 very much. There was very good hiking about a five minute-drive away from the entrance to the resort, and we did hit the trails. There is a mountain hut at the top where you can get a nice snack or meal and charge it back to your room at Sonnenalp. When we visited, the area was still green and many flowers were in bloom. Rooms had terrific views, were generously sized, tastefully decorated, very clean and we loved the beds, which were a variation on the articulating bed we have at our home, the split king Tempurpedic. This meant back problems didn't have as much of a chance as they sometimes do when traveling. They offer riding right on sight and I would have a report on that if the skies hadn't opened up and I hadn't gotten rained out. But the ponies were cute and I'd recommend trying them out if you go. The resort also has an Audi driving program so you can take, at no cost to you, one of about a half a dozen different models of brand spanking new Audis out for 8 hours. There is no salesman involved, and no one tracking your interest in buying the car. They don't even take your address -- they just want you to get hooked. We took full advantage and tested the Audi A8L for a day. The only car you can't take as freely is the R8. You get it for 2 hours and only if the weather forecast hasn't got a single drop of rain in it. (We signed up for it twice but got rained out twice, darn it.) The breakfast buffet was outstanding (despite not having any berries), and I would be remiss if I didn't mention the perfectly cooked bacon, of which I think I had a year's ration packed into one week. Service was all-around very nice; English was hard to come by other than at the front desk, where very well-trained employees made sure things ran smoothly. But the resort does not appear to cater or market to Americans so most everyone around us was German or European and when we and our friends spoke English, we drew attention. Daily programmes and menus were in German only, so we had to be alert and handy with translation. Locals in the area also did not readily speak English -- it is not at all true that "everyone" in Germany speaks English, so be prepared. Upon check-out, we were not only given a warm farewell, but a loaf of delicious freshly baked hearty bread. Not particularly useful when you're heading to the airport and have no butter or jam, but a nice gesture nonetheless. (Since most guests are probably somewhat local and driving back to their homes, the bread is probably usually very well received.) There are some things I'd like travelers to know before they decide to go: 1. They keep the resort VERY, VERY warm. You can break into a sweat just walking from your room to the dining room. It was difficult to understand why they didn't just draw in some of that nicely cooled autumn air from outside... 2. Despite being a resort, they didn't provide hair conditioner. And when we ran out of shampoo, we had to request more -- it wasn't automatically replaced. A little strange, especially considering that every other place we stayed in Bavaria on this same trip provided conditioner and didn't hesitate to provide shampoo. 3. They charge for water. Even when meals are included, there is a charge for water, and that includes tap water! You read that correctly. If the waitress had to go to the kitchen and fill a pitcher of water and bring it to our table, it cost 4 Euro. Overall I'd highly recommend this place -- there is too much to discover to describe here so spend some time on their web site and read other reviews -- and come prepared with the tips above.

Dear ChickadeeX, Thank you very much for taking the time and sending us this review. We are glad about your top assessments and the detailed descriptions of your stay as well as your kind and lovely words. We are happy to hear that you could enjoy your stay and could try out our varied offers in and all around the hotel especially the hours at our Weltcup-Hütte at the Ofterschwanger Horn, the rider's court and during breakfast. We are sorry to read you had trouble to communicate. We are constantly training our staff to make sure that all our international travelers are able to experience our warm and kind Sonnenalp hospitality. This is a work in progress and we promise you to keep up the work and to improve. We do provide English menus and we are very disappointed that you haven´t been offered those. We apologize, that we do not provide hair conditioner in the rooms. Our in-house hairdresser and our very exclusive in-house perfumery has a wide range of hair care products ready for you. We would love to welcome you again at our resort. Best regards from Ofterschwang. Michael & Anna-Maria Fäßler
