The camp is located out of gochas, so out of common tourist roads, but conveniently reachable by car, also a 2x4 (paved road). It's at the margin of the kalahari desert, with already some wold animals and not so many people as you can find somewhereelse.
The two old owners are kind and nice, they also sell wood, carchoal and meet if you need them for your braai.
The camp is some km away from the main road and the lodge, on the top of a red dune, overlooking the desert around.
Really worthwhile if you like not artifacted things.
We were alone, in the middle of the dunes. Hot water, toilet and shower available at the campsite.

We stayed at the Red Dune on the way to the Mata Mata border post to leave Namibia. We met the owners son on arrival who showed us the farm shop and escorted us up to the dune campsite. He explained all the facilities and left us to it...

You are pretty much secluded and have only the sheep and the scenery for company :)

We cooked game sausages we bought at the farm stall on the supplied grill and went to bed to watch the fantastic thunderstorm that rolled in the night we were there. After showers in the morning we went back down to the farmhouse, met the owners and were treated to an immense breakfast before heading off.

On our one month trip to Namibia we have seen plenty of different accommodations across the country and price segments (see list below). The Red Dune Camp Site offers a spectacular remote location on top of a dune with excellent facilities.

We liked: solitary and remote location in a fascinating landscape, owners assistance with adjusting the tire pressure, flexibility with the booking, fair pricing, shower, toilet and water tap were amazing, climbing up and down the dune with the 4x4 was great fun

We disliked: please provide a bit more shade, also the wooden platform looked a bit decayed

Conclusion: we highly recommend to stay a single night at this place

Very cold, but amazing star gazing opportunities for the avid photographer.
Another one of those special places. If travelling through Namibia to the Kgalagadi go via Gochas and spend the night (or 2) in the dunes.

We camped in the grassy garden next to the owners house. There is electricity and clean ablutions. It was raining in the morning and the friendly owner invited us over to take shelter under his veranda. We were only staying on a camping basis but he allowed us to make tea in the kitchen. A very convenient place to stay just before you enter the Kgalagadi national Park.

What an amazing place! Although we were freezing our noses off as it was around 0 degrees we enjoyed our stay on the wonderful red dune.
You need a 4×4 to get to the camp sites, but it's just the last couple of meters and easy to manage :)
We arrived there just in time for the sunset – so amazing! And at no other place we stayed in Namibia or South Africa we had such a great view from the toilet ;)

We got married at this beautiful campsite and our hearty hosts made the ceremony and the hole stay unforgetable for us. It´s not only the nature and the loneliness under the starry sky it is especially the hospitallity of the farmers which make this place so unique. It doesn´t matter where you stay at this farm, every single place (B&B, campsite at the farmyard or at the dune or the luxury tented camp) is decorated very lovely. It is clean and you get all you need. The food is delicious as well. The only thing you have to do, is to enjoy this place and the nature. Thank you very much for having us!!!

A bit difficult to find (30 km east of Gochas), it is worth the drive through a beautiful, yet depressively dry valley. The welcome at the reception of the campsite was a bit minimal, but once we reached our assigned spot high a above the valley in the dunes, we were in a different world. What an idyllic spot in the middle of nature with everything we needed - water, toilet and even a shower. The campsites are so far away from eachother that we felt totally alone under the perfectly clear starlight sky. Red Dune Camp is definitely worth a visit!

Pos : location is beautifull on the red dunes and only 4 camps on the dunes. Enough distance between other camps. Game around you. Magic at sunset and sunrise.
Neg : nobody of the staff gives you information on how to treath the camp and that you need a good 4x4 to get on the dunes. They just give you a A4 copy with the road to get there, that ‘s iT. Not interested in how your night was, no personal contact. Just pay and go.
Owners we Did not see, only from a distance and they even didn’t bother to come and say hello.

Room Tip: Camp on the red dunes! Be aware of deep stand to get on the dunes, so be good in driving a 4x4
