The lodge is situated in the private Okonjati nature reserve in the North of Namibia, which is home to hundreds of species of birds & animals, ranging from 20 different antelope to elephant, lion, cheetah and black & white rhino. All luxury rooms have en suite facilities and several rooms are furnished with Jacuzzis. Game viewing is undertaken in open safari vehicles or on foot. The pristine African wilderness surrounding the lodge provides unique opportunities for bird and wildlife photography. Participate in the lion and cheetah feeding session and track rhino for a truly African experience. Fossilized dinosaur footprints on site may be visited free of charge. A small souvenir shop/museum outlines the signing of the Namibian Independence Declaration at this historic lodge in 1989. Mount Etjo - encounter Namibia!
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Structure with a colonial atmosphere immersed in a private reserve, it can be reached after a dirt path protected by two guarded gates. The lodge has a large swimming pool, a restaurant under the stars and a pond with white-eyed ducks, flamingos, gray herons and storks. The rooms are very large, although not very bright, the bathroom has a bathtub and bidet. Dinner is rich and varied, as is breakfast, even if the room is too dark. Possibility of beautiful paid excursions with expert rangers inside the reserve to spot rhinos, hippos, elephants and lions.

We camped at Mount Etjo for 2 nights and we absolutely loved our stay. Booking was smooth and efficient - any questions I had were answered promptly. We were warmly welcomed and were given all the info we needed. Campsites are about 3km from the main lodge and perfectly equipped (outside AND inside shower, a fridge, shady trees, a nice seating area and a great braai area.) and in a peaceful and quiet location. Transport is offered by the main lodge for game drives, dinners and the lion feeding which was very helpful as we had a roof tent.
We had dinner at the main lodge and both food and service were great. A hearty, filling meal, expertly prepared, and it was delicious.
The game drives were fantastic. Our guide, Orlando, was very knowledgeable and extremely patient, answering our 1001 questions. Mnt Etjo is a stunning and varied location with beautiful sights and of course animals.
I'd highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be staying again, next time likely for longer than 2 nights.

This was the first Resort where we stopped, colonial style, well-kept, with large rooms even if not very bright. It is in a private reserve and is reached after a dirt road path. The park is well maintained and you can see many animals from flamingos, hippos, kudu and giraffes very suggestive. You eat very well, excellent meat and varied breakfast.

my negative opinion is based solely on the room we were given: number 3. Small, with a queen size bed (up until now we had all had rooms with king size beds), dark, without an armchair or chair. The bathroom had a leaking toilet and a door that didn't close. It had no bedside tables but an uncomfortable shelf behind the bed and on the shelf there was a single lamp, with a large blinding bulb. It's a shame, because the rooms of the other guests (seeing from their photographs) were large, with a hydromassage tub and even a bidet! But since the experience described is personal...Buffet dinner offering various types of meat and mediocre breakfast. The location of the Lodge is very beautiful, in a park with a pond where two hippos are stationed.

This was our third stay at Mount Etjo and just as good as the previous visits. We return for a number of reasons, primarily because the game drives are superb and never disappoint. This time we went on an evening drive and a morning one, both with Job. He was excellent, entertaining, informative and persistent in tracking down the lions, which we really appreciated. I took more than 600 photos on the two drives! The food is excellent and I love the afternoon tea and cakes with the cheeky blue starlings. On previous visits we have had a family room, but with older children we opted for separate twin rooms. The rooms are clean and were perfectly adequate for our two night stay. They could do with updating (my daughter's shower wasn't great), but this is a minor issue. The grounds are lovely and we spent hours sitting and watching the hippos, including a baby hippo, and heaps of wildlife, including elephants and giraffes, at the water hole by the lodge. Absolutely amazing! The staff are always helpful, friendly and strive to make your stay as good as it can be. Compared with four years ago and our last visit, Namibia has become extremely expensive overall, including accommodation, but we knew we would have a great time at Mount Etjo and it didn't disappoint.

The most beautiful lodge ever seen in Africa! The lodge is a little old and the taps in the bathrooms of the rooms need to be replaced but this place is a true earthly paradise for lovers of nature photography, where it is possible to walk in the bush with a guide, see the animals up close and take photographs incredible. The same thing can be done comfortably in the lodge at the natural pond right in front of the rooms. The rooms are fantastic, huge, double king size bed, bathroom with hydromassage tub, in the room there is even a cast iron tufa for heating: you call and they come to light it for you, super romantic! The reserve is fantastic, here you can really see everything (Burchel's zebra, Altmann's zebra, antelopes, springboek, steenboek, dik dik, giraffes, hippos, elephants, black rhinos, white rhinos, waterbuk, wildebeest, etc) and these people are they truly care about the well-being of their animals. There is a lot of activity you can do from early morning to the night, and wherever you are they will be able to organize an excellent packed breakfast. Finally you can buy your souvenir in the lodge shop, there a lot of nice thing! Highly recommended!

The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom toilet, bidette and bathtub need renewal and as persons of 70 years it is dangerous to take a shower in the bathtub. Service and personal is excellent and friendly. Lots of game. A very pleasant stay and be adviced to stay for two nights minimum to experience all.

This was our second time staying at Mount Etjo Lodge and once again we felt very comfortable and were given a very warm and friendly welcome by the friendly staff. Room number 8 was a very nice surprise for us, large, spacious with everything you would want but of course not expect, extremely comfortably furnished, with a whirlpool and every other comfort. The wonderful park-like area with the wonderful swimming pool invites you to relax and offers a view of a beautiful lake with hippos, which can be seen from time to time. The game drives here are some of the best on our tour for us, the guide explains in great detail the special features of each animal species we see and knows the area reliably. We were able to observe countless different species, from giraffes, rhinos and elephants to bat-eared foxes, meerkats and various antelopes. A wonderful experience, exploring the diverse landscape over rock and stone paths that would not be possible with your own vehicle. Many thanks again to the caring staff. As I was having a bit of difficulty walking at the time, the staff reacted immediately and offered aids. Thank you very much for your attention. With a healthy knee we would come back anytime and enjoy Mount Etjo and the nice people here.

At Mount Etjo we were supposed to stay in a 'junior suite' in the really beautiful main lodge. However, this doesn't exist (anymore?) or was the main lodge overbooked? We and another couple were transported in a safari car to the elephant lodge, half an hour away. This is a former hunting lodge and didn't really meet our expectations.
According to the website, the activities were included in the price - but they weren't! We paid again without complaining, as this remote accommodation is run by Brigitte, a wonderful, not-so-young woman who, despite her physical problems, works around the clock for her guests and the continued existence of the lodge. She loves animals and is also a great cook who also wants to help the local staff to achieve a high standard. We just weren't that interested in the food...
The safaris were OK, even if the car was old, impractical and the construction was dangerous. Our guide tried hard, but wasn't very familiar with the whereabouts of interesting animals. Thanks to communication with another guide, we were able to see the wild lions after all. The lion feeding we had booked was, however, designed for mass tourism and not what we had expected...

As a family, we spent two days at the Mount Etjo Lodge as the penultimate stop on our amazing Namibia tour. We had booked two standard luxury rooms (family, 3 adults and two children). The lodge is a bit old (which you can only tell from the design), but everything is still very well maintained and kept in good condition. The staff were everywhere and always really friendly and accommodating, the service wonderful. Dinner in the very interesting African building with an open grill was really great. The food was impeccable. The rooms are big enough, but unfortunately quite dark. But you're mostly outside anyway, so it's not that bad. The need for a whirlpool in a country where water is rather scarce was not quite clear to us. Do guests actually use it?
Our rooms (No. 11 and 12) were unfortunately right by the pool inlet, which unfortunately splashed a bit annoyingly all night. That could certainly be improved.
We went on a private game drive with the family in the afternoon, with a sundowner. Absolutely world class! The guide was extremely committed and explained and showed us the wildlife around the lodge. We really did and saw a lot with him in the 3 hours. Really one of the best game drives we did in Namibia. Thanks again to the guide, who did a SUPER JOB. The lion feeding in the evening is also a highlight that you should do. Very impressive, even for the children.
