As the name reveals, Desert Hills Lodge sits atop a small outcropping in the South-west central desert area of Namibia, close to Sossusvlei, a UNESCO world heritage site and popular attraction. The unique architecture of the lodge was inspired by the original nomadic inhabitants of the arid plains. Each room has air-conditioning and faces East towards the magnificent Namib sunset.

Originally we had booked another lodge but we were moved here because of work being carried out. What a result. The lodge and the rooms are fabulous. The views are stunning and you have a perfect view of the sunset from your private balcony or the terrace of the main lodge. Staff friendly and eager to help and are still learning the ropes (we overheard a session teaching the waiters about wine and how to pour it). Location wise the lodge is perfect for your visit to the dunes (30kms from park gate) which means that you can go to see the sunrise. If you do go early the lodge will even pack you a breakfast to take with you. Great choice of place to stay.

My line of work brings me to the Sesriem region at least once a month, Desert Hills has completely blown me and my clients away ! What an experience.

1)Every meal was perfectly prepared!
The lodge and rooms planned and built to perfection, portion sizes, preparation and flavour
2)The wifi was the most reliable and strongest I have experience in this region. A big plus when traveling with business clients
3)Every staff member was clued up,helpful and friendly and professional to a T
4)the lay out of the lodge perfectly planned and spotless too

Activities
Knowledgeable and professional guides
Clean and we'll maintained cars
Great sundowner snacks and drinks offered to the clientele

All and all it was worth every penny and recommend Desert Hills Sesriem above all others in the area, looking forward to our next tour.

This lodge was built in 2018 and is still pretty new. Staff is very helpful, they even washed the car! Rooms are perfect with aircon and lots of EU and usb powerplugs. View from the balcony is superb overviewing the open dessert are with a waterhole with mountains in the back. Food is good. Only downside is the quality of the wifi. When wifi is working it is very poor. Half the time it was not working.
The drive to soussos vlei only takes 30 minutes. In summer you can leave at 05:30 to still make the very front of the queue at the park gate in Sesriem. We enjoyed our two night stay.

First impressions were good: great location, great views, lovely designed individual lodges which were large and light.

But then it went downhill - I blame the management. The lady manager / owner didn't interact with guests was either sat outside smoking or helping herself to a beer behind the bar. The staff were scruffy - you dont want serving your meals by staff in tracksuit bottoms and dirty looking sweat jackets. The meals (both nights) took forever to arrive and weren't that good when they did.

The only plus staff wisw was Jacob who was friendly and helpful: he took us out for a full day to the Dunes and Canyon and was excellent.

Management should lead by example, it is therefore not the staff's fault - this property could very easily get a 5* rating with better leadership.

I stayed 2 nights here as part of a tour group and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The individual rooms are large and well furnished, with a modern bathroom and each has a view across the desert. The main lodge building has a large lounge and plenty of places to sit outside on the spacious deck areas. The food was pleasant but had a limited range of offerings. The staff are outstanding: friendly and very obliging. While here we did the sundowner trip where we were driven to the top of a nearby hill. It is a relatively short distance from Sossusvlei but you need to leave early if you want to be there when the gates open.

We stayed for 2 nights in mid-June. It was windy while we visited, so we couldn't sit out on the balcony, but it would've been a very inviting spot otherwise.
The room was incredibly beautiful inside and out and the bathroom was very large. This was our first time seeing an airhorn to alert staff if a scorpion or snake gets into your room, but in June it's cold enough that those critters stay put.
We enjoyed the meals and thought the dining room staff was just attentive enough. Overall, the staff was professional and considerate, yet not quite as warm as some other places we visited.
Wifi is only available inside the lodge and works best early in the morning before everyone else is trying to access it.
It is a 30 minute drive into the park and when we visited, there was virtually no wait to get in.

This lodge is in a stunning location with an amazing view. The chalets are big and quite luxurious but get very hot despite the air conditioning. The bar area is lovely and the dining room is spacious although lacking in character compared to the rest of the lodge. The staff were attentive and helpful and very welcoming. We had an excellent dinner of linefish the first night but on the second night were served inedible, tough steak which was impossible even to cut through. We had asked previously what cut the steak was but the staff member had no idea what we were asking. A table next to us was occupied by German tourist who all sent their steaks back. The chef could surely have checked that the steaks were edible?

Wonderful views from the lodge, staff very helpful and friendly, food (game steak) was really juicy and spiced in a nice way. The housing is something special, and you just do not want to leave. But - unfortunately smoking is allowed every where outside, and since the wind is constant, you have the smell of tobacco in the main building. Recommend a special area for the few smokers.

The Desert Hills Lodge sits perched along a hillside surrounded by larger majestic hills in the forefront and behind mountains anchoring this Himba tribe/s hut inspired Hospitality Lodge outside the landmark Sossusvlei desert. The out-side setting changes with colour every hour and one can find your hut/chalet with all that you can wish for with the contemporary finishes making your hut the perfect setting to be taken far away in, linger with the view beyond of this tranquil setting.

The out bound Sesriem location is ideal and the Accomodation appealing to the eye nestled well on Hills. Here the Desert Hills Lodge has good with friendly Namibian attentive service. Lacking however the finer finishing touches but for a remote lodge like this All is Good!
