Detailed Reviews
We stayed in this backpacker on our way back from Sossusvlei.
They have 5 rooms and a nice garden (it's dry there, so expect Aloes more than green grass) where you can pitch your tent.
Nothing super fancy (remember it is a backpacker), but clean rooms, good mattresses, a clean shared bathroom (we were alone in the backpacker, so this wasn't too crowded!), a restaurant-living room area inside, a very nice garden outside with benches and tables where to eat, and even a hangar where they exhibit and sell african art (from everywhere on the continent, more than from Southern Africa).
Negative points: bathroom a bit far from rooms, no kitchen.
Positive points: warm welcome from owners (and dogs, and horse), after nice conversations, they will help you to warm your water if you want a tea and they can prepare a meal or a coffee for you (so the kitchen isn't really needed anymore!).

My boyfriend and I stayed at Oa Hera Backpackers for one night in March, as part of a two-month tour of Southern Africa, incorporating a 10-day self driving tour of Namibia. The owner, Bryan, is really friendly and very welcoming, as are his two gorgeous dogs, although there wasn't much of a backpacker atmosphere because we happened to be the only two people staying! Because Bryan was such a nice guy, I hate to leave an 'average' review, but unfortunately I have to review the accommodation and not the friendliness of the owner! Although this review may come across as a long list of negative points, I hope it will be taken as constructive criticism - Oa Hera could be a really great place!
Firstly the room. We stayed in a double room which, although tiny, had a perfectly comfortable bed, a mosquito net was provided, and there was plenty of storage space. However, it felt quite cramped - almost climbing over furniture to get into bed - and was very hot (no fan or AC).
The bathrooms down the corridor were very clean and tidy, although I'm confused as to why there was only one shower - and a bath?? No backpacker I know has ever taken a bath in a hostel - perhaps it would be better to remove this and install more showers!?
Though the indoor communal area was a large space, there was too much furniture and it felt very cramped - almost as if Bryan hadn't finished moving in and the furniture wasn't yet in its right place. In my opinion it would be better to get rid of those great big tables and replace them with more informal seating; comfy sofas perhaps - make it a nice cosy TV area perhaps?
To be a successful backpacker's hostel, I really think you need proper self-catering facilities with fridges and utensils. The 'self-catering kitchen' as it stands consists of a tiny hut away from the main house, which contains just a hob/oven and an empty shelf. It wouldn't be so bad if you were camping and had brought all of your own equipment with you, but for those of us staying in the hostel rooms it was pretty much useless. We bought meat for a braai with us, but had to ask Bryan if we could borrow plates, cups, cutlery, and braai tongs from his personal kitchen. There was also no fridge to store food or drinks so our beers got warm! We ended up just cooking our meat, and went without the accompaniments we had bought since there was nowhere to prepare them, nor anything to prepare them with. We did the best we could in washing up the items we had borrowed, but as there was no washing up liquid, towels or cloths at the wash-up area we had to just rinse in cold water, sorry!
The outside space is great and has huge potential, although again it has the feeling of not being quite finished or looked after properly. The plants in the garden were overgrown and blocked out a lot of daylight/view, while at night there was absolutely no lighting so once our braai was ready, we either had to go inside to eat, or eat by torchlight. I'm sure the restaurant area is a great communal space when there are a few more guests, but sadly we were the only ones, and it was closed.
One other little thing that bugged me was the WiFi - don't get me wrong, it's brilliant to have access to free WiFi and we really appreciated it, but it's kinda weird that you have to sit outside near the Cultural Centre to use it - ideally the router would be inside the main house so that you can sit at a table to use your laptop, and plug into a powerpoint if necessary.
Overall, please don't take this as a negative review, but with a bit more thought Oa Hera Backpackers could be very much improved.

We stopped on the road to Mariental in this boutique café restaurant that really deserves a detour. The person who handles it is very kind.
The site offers light or more solid restoration, as well as an art shop well stocked with items.
In addition, the center is in contact with the school management that can be visited by booking in advance, which interested us a lot. We found the visit very humanely rewarding.
