This a very unique and beautiful hotel in a former convent. It’s about a 10 minute drive outside of Evora. Our room was large and nicely decorated in a period style, but with large modern TV and chromecast. The bathroom was spacious and beautiful. We did have a bit of an issue with the air con; even at full blast the room was very warm throughout the night, which did impact our sleep. We had planned to eat in the Olive restaurant (pizzas etc) but this was closed on the day of our stay. Instead we ate in Divinus, which was lovely (if a bit pricey). I recommend the soufflé! We used the indoor pool and spa facilities, which were excellent. There is also an outdoor pool and tennis court. The hotel offer a complimentary tour and wine tasting, however when we turned up at the time for the tour were simply sent to the wine tasting, so I was a bit disappointed we missed out on hearing about the building. The wine tasting was enjoyable though!…
We stayed here for two nights and despite arriving and discovering that we were booked for a month later the staff were extremely helpful and good natured and arranged a lovely room for us - thank goodness they had space! We had our breakfast in our room and it was very good but quite simple. Lovely juices. As it was a special occasion the hotel kindly had a bottle of sparkling wine in our room which was a lovely touch - and they included a personal note. The pool area is exquisite with lots of green area around it and sweeping countyside as far as you can see. We found that the drinks and extras were expensive but the service was very good. The surrounding town of Evora is worth a look with some very historical features but unfortunately we were there during Covid times so everything was pretty quiet and a lot was closed. We found a fantastic little street with a long line of tapas restaurants and had a gorgeous local green wine, and a red, along with some delicious meats and exceptional bread from the locality. Magnificent oysters too! The surrounding town is not so picturesque and the drive from the hotel to the town is pretty sparce but when you are inside the walls of the old town it is quite beautiful. It would be nice to see it full of people and music and activity. We ate in the hotel restaurant - Divinus - the food was fabulous and the servies very good. The atmosphere was a little lacking but the setting was beautiful I think it is also because it was almost empty and quite a cavernous space. Great food and wine though. Beautiful risotto!!! All in all a lovely stay with exceptional staff. I wish we had done the wine tasting and the tour of the convent but we were very comfortable in the room and too lazy. Maybe next time.…
We really enjoyed our stay and found the property to be lovingly restored. The rooms were large and comfortable and we found the property great to explore. The pool area, restaurants and the grounds were all excellent, take the time to go to the library.
Another superb stay at the Convento do Espinheiro. We had a Design room, which we requested having had one a couple of years ago. The food in both restaurants was fabulous with a sumptuous breakfast each morning. Magnificent grounds to wander about in with an old water wheel sending water to the garden. Lots to do in the surrounding area. We know Evora well so gave it a miss this year but went to the border hilltop towns of Elvas and Monserraz. Both well worth it, an hour from Evora. Will be going back to the Convento next time in the Alentejo.
We stayed for the 3rd time and enjoyed every moment. Very clean, personnel is very professional and the whole ambience takes us back to the origins of the convent. Chapel is beautiful. Dinner in Divinus restaurant although expensive lived up to our expectations. The whole experience was very relaxing and will return.
