Spectacular ocean views, clean new rooms. Inside the park, a 20-minute walk leads to very impressive Tibetan bridges. Restaurant still under construction, there is a temporary structure that remains very cold but you can do takeaway. Laundry service and automatic dryer, the laundry room could be cleaner. Overall nice structure.

Dream location right by the sea with wild surf

Beautiful forest cabins right by the sea, nicely furnished with a viewing terrace and a fantastic view of the roaring sea. However, the bathroom and shower cubicle are very small and in need of renovation. The bed was good, there was a microwave and TV, but no refrigerator and no drinking water. The restaurant burned down and was destroyed by the surf. It is only being rebuilt, so no food is available. Only many kilometers from the town, and even there supplies were difficult and the selection was limited.

Conclusion: Yes, it is worth it. Dream location right by the sea with a great view and wild surf. Beautiful nature. But you shouldn't expect too much comfort and you should provide yourself with enough food and drinking water, ideally well in advance in a supermarket. Hike to the Suspension Bridge is also worthwhile, but the path is strenuous with lots of steps.

My husband and I had the pleasure to return to Storms river mouth rest camp on 25 November 2019 to 28 November 2019 (three nights).

Check-in at reception was quick and hassle-free. The restrooms at reception was neat and sparkling clean.

We stayed in a honeymoon cottage (HC2). The cottage had one bedroom, a bathroom with a shower and an open plan living room and kitchen. The views of the Indian ocean right in front of the cottage were spectacular and a sight to behold. The cottage also boasted a spacious furnished deck/veranda where we spent hours admiring the breathtaking crashing waves and nature around us. The cottage also boasted an enclosed (shelter from the wind) braai (barbeque) area. The cottage was sparkling clean. As far as housekeeping was concerned our bed was made up but we had to do our own dishes (which we rather preferred).

We were once again mesmerised by the starry sky at night.

The on-site restaurant (Cattle Baron) is in an unbeatable location (temporary) and we enjoyed an appetising meal there.

My husband enjoyed a brisk walk to the suspension bridge and the Blue duiker trail which boasted magnificent views of the ocean from the top of the trail.

Tip: Do keep your permits that you receive at reception for the duration of your stay. A group of rangers came to our cottage and demanded to inspect it which we found a bit odd.

We did our food/wine/snack shopping on the way to Storms river in Plettenberg bay at the Woolworths situated at the Market Square shopping centre in Beacon Way (just off the N2 at the last entrance/exit to Plettenberg bay. We also made an essential stop at the Bramon wine tasting stall next to the N2 to buy a few bottles of bubbly and wine (roughly 17 kilometres from Plettenberg bay).

Storms river mouth rest camp is a very special and unique place. This “place of much water” completely stole our hearts. It is a wonderland of forest, fynbos and crashing waves that once again provide the perfect setting to revive body, mind and soul.

The camp, which was certainly beautiful years ago, is in urgent need of renovation. The chalets are moldy and musty. The food in the makeshift restaurant is like a snack bar. Until the new restaurant is completed (probably at the end of 2020) and the huts are completely renovated, the rest camp cannot be recommended.

Wonderful location of cabin on the beach with great views and lovely walk over the bridges. Sadly the restaurant was destroyed by floods but they are building what looks to be a great new facility. Therefore you have to cook for yourself which isn’t a problem as long as the facilities are adequate. Unfortunately there was no chopping board, scissors, sharp knife or microwave bowls. The BBQ was not in a very good position, it is fixed on the fence and therefore exposed and windy. It had no grill which we had to borrow from next door. These things are not expensive and easy to put right and I think San Parks are being rather complacent. Ensure you keep your doors and windows shut as a very large baboon came into our cabin while we were inside. Quite shocking and also amusing but could have been dangerous.

This is a national park run camp which caters for camping, campervans and also has different huts and fixed accommodation so it's probably difficult for everyone to have the same views. However, the location and the amazing views are for everyone. We had a cottage OC2 for two nights and it was perfect. We knew the restaurant had been destroyed (they are actively building a new one) so we went shopping and bought our own food/beers. We had planned to go into the village on the second night for dinner, but the sea and the location are so special, we decided to make do with what we had and I loved the staring at the sea. We also could see whales a bit in the distance spouting water with our binoculars. It really is a stunning location. On our whole day we had already booked the kayak and lilo experience and it was short walk from our cabin and it is a beautiful gorge. We did a short walk too and explored the site which is huge. You can probably get an idea of the size of it on google satellite pictures. The whole process of booking in and even booking the cottage is quite archaic but I think worth it. It really is a special place. Just take your own provisions and alcohol as nothing was open in the evenings (Nov 23). There is a swimming pool and a little beach area for swimming. The shop has provisions and is open until around 6pm.

Even in the driving rain on New Year’s Eve this place is special. We had a forest cabin with an ensuite and although it was a little scuffed it had everything we needed. Our unbroken view of surf thundering against the rocks was unrivalled. The rest camp has got bigger since we were last there (nearly twenty years ago!), there are more cabins, more tents and an absolutely fabulous ‘infinity pool’ right next to the smashing waves. It’s the best pool we’ve encountered at a SAN Park. The Cattle Baron restaurant which was washed away last September was fully operational out of a container over New Year and for such a rudimentary setup the food was actually pretty good. The staff were warm and wonderful and they had set a string of fairylights. We braved the Waterfall walk in the rain - not for the faint hearted - and rewarded ourselves with dinner and candles at the Cattle Baron for New Years Eve, watching surf pound in on the little beach it overlooks as rain dropped onto the makeshift cover.

This will always be a special place. Book a honeymoon cabin or a forest cabin with ensuite if you can. It’s magical.

The best camping/caravan/ bush hut/chalet venue that I have ever visited, situated on the edge of the roaring Indian Ocean.
The ocean views, pristine Storms River and forest walks are spectacular.
Ablution, laundromat, scullery wash-up close to all the sites. The staff are professional and friendly, from the gate entrance, reception and campsite.
So much to do and see at the rest camp and in proximity.
Our third stay over in various chalets and bush hut, all well equipped and maintained. We always opt for bathroom to be included, but as mentioned, fasilities always close by.
Over the years, Cattle Baron offers the best steaks ever and sea food.
In short, my absolute favorite, 4 nights are simply too short.

I stayed in one of the small cabins In the woods. It was surprisingly cosy and had everything we needed for a short stay. Thick blankets provided as there's obviously no heating but found I was warm enough without. I stayed 1 night which was enough. The location is great although no food facilities due to recent Storms so had to go off site for breakfast. But if you brought food there's facilities to cook, microwave/bbq plus there hobs in the scullery. It was clean and cosy. Nothing fancy but it's not a hotel! Running water a bit brown tho and hot water surprisingly very hot!!

The complex is much larger than we thought: on about 1km huts and camping spots stretch along the coast. Quiet early in the morning and in the evening, many day tourists for whom the walk to the bridge is challenging. The coastline is breathtakingly beautiful and would also be worth sleeping in. For cabins and apartments it is tricky: from gala location to view of campng trailers or klöchen. Inside from moss holes to modern and ok.
We had Apartment K: new, good visibility. Probably the apartments for 2025 are a recommendation. After that, they are worn out and poorly maintained and cleaned. We'll still be back. The coast and the surf compensate for everything.

I recommend the Waterfall Trail: it’s a 3 hour hike which will take you past waterfalls, caves and beautiful views of the ocean. For activities, there’s a small village nearby with many different activities including canoeing, zip lining and forest tours on a segway. I’ve only done the canoeing and it was great! I did find the prices a little bit inflated unfortunately. Since you’re only staying for a night, I recommend deciding on what you’re interested in doing before arriving. If it’s an activity such as canoeing, check that they’re open on the day you’ll be there.

Hi, yes you can store things in the kitchen fridge at your own discretion. As with backpackers, noone can vouch for your goods and things do go missing, but you'll find that most of the time your steak will be where you left it.
