Bishop’s Cove Lodge is situated on one of the most spectacular privately-owned coastal sites in the Tsitsikamma area. To the south lies the pristine, rugged coast with its small private beach; to the east a dramatic drop into the forested Boschkloof; to the north a small stream flows through a steep valley hidden by its forest canopy.Accommodation is either self cater or B&B (by prior arrangement)in two self contained units. Furnishings are practical and very comfortable but not luxurious. Guests come to Bishops Cove to take in the beautiful natural surroundings and serenity. They are able to truly relax here, or they can enjoy an action packed outdoor adventure. There are a range of hiking trails to choose from, with the more leisurely trails enabling you to enjoy the magnificent ocean and mountain views. Other trails will take you into the forest or along the rugged and pristine coast where there is a good chance of seeing resident Cape clawless otter, various antelope, whales in the winter months, dolphins, rare Oyster Catcher birds, and more. Mountain bikers can make use of the kilometers of quiet, unpaved rural roads, passing beautiful dams, pastures and plantations. The area is extremely safe and private.

Thank you Dave and Joey for the lovely review. We have been so fortunate to busy with guests coming and going despite the virus epidemic. It seems like everyone is looking for a remote coastal wilderness with fresh air and few people. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

This is great for an escape from the world.
The Sunbird cottage doesn't have a sea view - it has an extremely pleasant mountain and pasture view.
The kitchen in Sunbird is set up with basic facilities - its clean but not luxurious.
The rooms are plain and clean - could do with some carpets and softness perhaps.
Take all your food and supplies as you don't really want to navigate the road too often.
All in all a special spot to escape from the maddening crowd.

We stayed for two nights but wished we had stayed longer, so we will have to return. The setting of Bishop’s Cove exceeded our expectations: the views are stunning, especially from the benches on the trails, drinking a glass of wine and watching whales, and the walks around and from the property allow you to absorb the coastal scenery. It is a great place to unwind and relax. The cottage was well equipped, clean and comfortable. It was great to cater for ourselves having stayed in several hotels and b&b before our arrival. Just make sure you take everything you need as it is a good 10k to the nearest store. There is no WiFi but we read, talked and listened to music.... Neill was a great host and provided us with details of local walks.

We stayed here one night and had a lovely time. There are amazing views of the sea and a lovely walk down to the beach where we saw lots of whales and dolphins, Joe, the cocker spaniel, was a fantastic tour guide. He waited for us and made sure we knew the route there and back. The rooms and cottage were lovely but the bathroom could do with some updating. Bear in mind that the roads are really dirt tracks and the way isn't always obvious so make sure you give yourself enough time to get there in daylight.

We visited Bishops Cove as part of our honeymoon road trip. Other than the "private beach", beautiful vistas and great walks- you also get your own special dog "Joe" for the duration of the stay :) We absolutely loved every minute of our stay. Thanks to hosts Ed & Sally!

Thank you for your kind words of appreciation. Joe, the special guide dog, has been busy with the guests after you left and is due for a good break. The rain has finally arrived for which we are very grateful as are our surrounding farmers. We hope you had a fine conclusion of your honeymoon and are enjoying married life. Cheers Ed & Sally

Once we found the house (take your map with you!) we had a warm welcome by the owners. The house is really huge and has everything you need. The terrace has such a nice view over the ocean, we even saw whales from our terrace. This place was very laid back, the most quiet location you could ever imagine (feels like you are alone on the planet), we felt one with nature. Different hikes start @ the house and our guide Joe was such a special and wonderful experience. On arrival, we found the house a little dirty with dirty sheets, but this place has such a special vibes and gave us the best memories that we find it deserves 5 stars! Thank you Sally & Ed.

Thank you so much for all of your comments. We do try to keep this place special, private and unspoilt for all. You will be pleased to know that new linen has been purchased and that the resident greater striped swallows, who spotted the walls, have moved out for the winter, but will be back for their summer vacation!! I am sorry that you did not bring our attention to the sheets that were problamatic. Keep well and thank you again.

If ever there there is a dwelling at the end of the world then this is it. Rattling down farmers' roads and then over grassed fields you arrive at a cluster of buildings perched on a cliff edge overlooking the breathtaking craggy Tsitsikamma coastline,
Far below , reached by a zigzag path, is a tiny sandy cove . A botanists paradise , nature carelessly flaunts it's bounty. And in the many paths which meander over and down the cliffs I defy you not to stop and admire not only the magnificent vistas but the vast array of different plants with their varying blooms.
Ed and Sally do a sterling job of maintaining the grounds and paths , striking a wonderful balance of allowing nature to shine and not overdoing the manicure. The grounds around the cottages are therefore immaculately kept .
We stayed in the Lodges " overflow" rooms as we were there for only 1 night and we were not self catering. And a great room we had too. En- suite bathroom , a double bed and tea and coffee making facilities. Opening on to a long verandah with magnificent views down to the sea below. Chairs on the verandah to admire the view . And we slept with our doors open to listen to the crashing surf.
Thanks to Sally for cooking such a great meal for us and for both her and Ed being so hospitable. A place that definitely exerts a tug for you to return.

Yep, at the end of the world you will find us. If the world were flat you would have fallen off before meeting us and our unique situation. Thank you for your visit and although it was a single nighter we know that you will be back to try the other strolls along the beach and through the pastures. The lack of monkeys and baboons allow us to sleep with windows and doors wide open and to leave the food safely on the kitchen table. We have had the odd harmless genet as a nocturnal visitor and our resident, orange eyed, Cape Eagle owls help to keep the rodents away. Luckily, the grader has been working on our local roads and after the rains we are back to smooth rides. We look forward to your return and have a fine time travelling.

We stayed at Bishops Cove for 3 nights and wish we could have stayed for longer. The main house has the most wonderful living space, very comfortable bedrooms and a huge & well equipped kitchen. Our sons (13 & 14) stayed in the neighbouring cottage, both properties had the most breathtaking sea views. Neill has lovingly restored the fynbos surrounding the property, there are trails all around and he is the most welcoming and interesting host. The walk down and up from the beach is steep but so worth it and the beach itself secluded and beautiful - we even found a message in a bottle from a PHD marine biology student during our beach clean (sadly even a place as unique as Bishops Cove doesn’t escape the perils of human made plastic pollution so we’d urge you to do your bit if you see any plastic - Neill and his team regularly clear up so you won’t find much.) I was rewarded with finding a logger head turtle in need of rescuing during a clear up. All in all Bishops Cove is a home from home, comfortable, clean and with a landscape second to none. We escaped the crowded Storms River and were well rewarded. THANK YOU NEILL AND URSULA.

This place is for nature lovers. It is located at the a rural area (20 min drive from the main road). For those who are seeking tranquility and love being in nature, this is the place for you.
There are three cottage, one for a family of 4 (where we stayed) and the other two are for bigger group ( the small cottage is for those who take the bigger cottage/ lodge)
The cottage was very sweet, light and full of light. The views are amazing, and it is so peaceful.
The area itself is so unbelievably amazing that you just don’t feel the need to go elsewhere.
The host Neil is the most wonderful and considerate host we ever had the pleasure to meet. He was full of tips and ideas, and we had very interesting conversations with him about this place and SA in general.
Thank you for this unforgettable experience

Wonderful venue for a meet up with friends! Spacious, well equipped and clean lodge. Fantastic walks and views. The hike down and back from the beach justifies the wine, and we even managed a swim in August! Thank you to Neil and Ursula.
