I loved the fact that we didn't have to drive hours to reach our romantic escape. It was a joy to get there and experience world class treatment from our first encounter with the Staff Members of the hotel. The rooms were spacious and get enough natural light and we didn't feel claustrophobic. The food is amazing. And the amenities are world class.

Our stay at the Cradle Boutique Hotel was nothing short of amazing. The chalets offer privacy with a small deck overlooking the nature reserve. The Hotel is peaceful and allows for a quiet and romantic weekend away. Moving around the property is easy as they have porters moving around with golf carts but we preferred walking and taking in the scenery. Breakfast could have had more offerings although it was beautifully presented. The dinner meals were fantastic - I particularly enjoyed their Pork Belly Trio and Gnocchi. The only thing I was not too impressed with was the check in process; it was not too bad but it could be smoother.

A stress free and peaceful stay, exceptionally pleasant staff who all seem willing to please. The rooms are well positioned for privacy, light and airy, with a great lookout deck to sit on. A few seasonal fruits in the room would have been welcome.
When I checked in I did point out that I am a "MS" not a 'MR'.

I am extremely disappointed with my stay and the lackluster service that I received.

1. Room was not ready on my our arrival.
2. Room was not cleaned properly during the day, housekeeping service did not even sweep or mop the floors, replace any of the soap bars or replace the bedding.
3. My feet were itchy from using the shower – I had to drive into town to get medication from a pharmacy.
4. My partner picked up a urinary infection – we presume that this is from the dirty bedding.
5. Housekeeping did not once leave clean towels, either had to use dirty towels or there were no towels at all.
6. I had to call reception several times for clean towels / transport – this was not pleasant in any way as my requests were not fulfilled and the cell reception was poor (no phone in room)
7. The room was not peaceful as there was loud music in the background and the peaceful sleep bottle was empty – I had to drive into town to buy my own insect repellent.
8. Breakfast buffet was disgusting and covered with fly’s and completely overpriced, we were forced to pay R180 a head as only the buffet was available, I do not feel that the price justifies toast and scrambled eggs.
9. Room service did not bring the receipts with the food, kept being bothered by them, for instance at 20:00 all the lights were off and curtains closed we were knocked awake by room service to collect plates.
10. We booked out one night stay early due to the dirty room (as I struggled finding other accommodation) and I still receive phone calls asking if I will be there for the evening.

I have to honestly say that this was the worst hotel stay I or my partner have ever had, I have stayed in B&B’s that take more pride in their profession.

The hotel’s setting is magical and the landscape was out of this world. Hence we chose to celebrate my partner’s birthday there and spend Christmas. However the service was so horrific that we couldn’t wait to leave after our four day stay. Everything was late, from booked activities to having to wait an hour for beverages from the bar.

The menu from the restaurant is also a bit limited if you stay that long. The phones in the rooms were also not working so we had use our cellphones to call reception, housekeeping, the restaurant etc.

We stayed in one of the sky rooms, which is excellently located with stunning views and a wood fire heated jacuzzi. I was great to wake up with a view of the bush and some animals.

Room service was terrible as we had to wait 3 hours and it took 3 telephone calls for an order of water (complimentary) and ice.

Dinner was a huge disappointment. The acoustics of the dining room is very bad and it is very noisy, it was not even possible for me to have a conversation with my wife who was sitting next to me. It reminded me of a mess room at a hostel. Sitting outside was not an option as it rained. Then came the toughest “dry aged sirlion steak” I have ever had. I asked for medium cooked but it was raw and had to return it to be cooked more. But even then I could not eat it so tough was it. The fish my wife ordered was mediocre. There are a few other restaurants close to the hotel that offer superb dinners and i suggest that you rather have your dinners outside the resort. We had a great romantic dinner at Bell-gables which is very close. Breakfast was average

The morning walk we had with Grant was the highlight of our visit. He is very knowledgeable about everything and we managed to get very close to a herd of Sable.

I can highly recommend the skyrooms but service overall was poor and the restaurant is terrible

We booked a 1 night package in the Sky Room to celebrate our anniversary. Room itself was neat and comfortable, with nice balcony and view of the bush accompanied by wood fired hot tub. Privacy however is extremely limited, which is rather deceiving when looking at the pictures on the website.

Neighbours to the left and right of us easily visible from the balcony, to the extent that you could have said "good morning" to them when standing on the balcony. Our unit, #34, also directly overlooked the hotel pool which further limited our privacy. Something to bear in mind when considering your booking.

The balcony is also covered with open slats, so if it rains, which it did in the evening, you cannot sit outside or enjoy the hot tub.

Location is great being just outside of Fourways, with a nice bush feel. Again, this was tainted somewhat by the constant drone of the restaurant's extraction system which could be heard at all times during the day and evening. Again, something to consider if you're looking to enjoy the quite of the surroundings.

We ate at the on-site restaurant, where we have eaten before on other occasions. While the setting is great, the food appeared to be a bit "hit-and-miss" and bordering on very average at times considering the prices. I had the sirloin steak which was no better than a store bought budget steak. Overall an average experience in terms of food (again, taken in context of the prices being charged).

Staff were very friendly and pleasant and we had no issues being collected and dropped off at our room.

My review is based solely on our 1 night experience taking the price we paid and our overall experience and expectation into consideration.

There is a constant noisy hum from the restaurant kitchen extraction fans emanating up the hill to the sky rooms, so you cannot enjoy a quiet sunset. The restaurant must have a poor design that routes the extraction fans towards guest rooms.

There are no blinds or curtains in front of the Sky Room's large bathroom window, with very bright lights inside the bathroom and a dark exterior. Anyone can look into the bathroom while guests are showering or using the bathroom, so there is a lack of privacy.

At breakfast the waiter informed us that "we could only choose one item for our price plan", as if R4850 per night is somehow a cheap price plan. We chose the 'Full English breakfast' (which was ridiculously priced at R110 for some eggs, sausages and very fatty semi-cooked bacon). Not even some yoghurt or cereal included. Most hotels or resorts have a buffet breakfast where you could at least have a proper breakfast, not this single skimpy plate.

Staff amazing. Location amazing. Beware that there is no communication with the reception and access to tents and hotel rooms (which are individual structures completely separate from others) are by hotel golf cart or off road vehicle only. It would be more comfortable for us as guests to have a walk-in talkie or phone in the room to request transport instead of having to have a local cell phone available.
Mostly very clean but a few details were overlooked on our stay. I understand this happens, however my email with pictures to the hotel were never addressed nor responded to. I believe the managers need some additional skills in this regard. Ignoring is worse than the actual issues we had.

Loved the sky room concept which is very different from the usual thatch roofed rooms. Views are amazing but it could use more thoughtfulness. For example there's nowhere to hang towels and the grout was falling all over the shower area.

Food and service were both good, but not amazing. I loved that this place is 30-45 mins away from Joburg but it's a bit expensive for what you get.
The best activity was to visit the newly opened museum on site which I highly recommend.
