Really good place to stay close to Umhlanga Beach, which was very nice, and Durban airport. Lovely owner and beautiful house. Room was big and had good airco. Also the breakfast was nice. Fresh cooked eggs in the way you like it.

We stayed at Shelbourne for 2 nights in 2 different rooms as the room we wanted wasn't available on the 1st night but we loved both rooms.
The rooms are clean, spacious and very homely. The great location was a bonus.
The owners and staff are very friendly and hands on...from when we were making an enquiry, the welcome to the service 👌🏾👌🏾
Thank you Pam, Marcus and the Mama who took care of us on our last day (We feel bad for not getting her name but she was very sweet). We're definitely staying here again next time we're in the city 🙌🏾

Shelbourne is well located in a clean environment. The place is homely, very clean and service from the owner was amazing. Nothing was too much for him to offer. It even has free WiFi! Very close to LA Lucia Mall and The Gateway. I would recommend Shelbourne to anyone traveling to LA Lucia or Umhlanga.

We stayed in the Nautilus suite for 10 nights at the end of December. The Nautilus suite has a small kitchen and a little outside area for sitting or relaxing and a small area for sitting inside to have a breakfast and a sleeper couch.
While the owner Lindsay is very friendly and La Lucia is generally considered an upmarket neighbourhood, there are things in this place that need improvement (particularly as it relates to the Nautilus suite):
-Overall cleanliness not up to the 4 star rating of this guesthouse (dust in corners and on ornaments, red army ants and bugs in the corners of the sleeper couch area, rubbish bin not emptied for the first two days, lizard droppings in cupboard, pool not clean etc.).
-In my humble view, the owner of a 4 star guest house, knowing that cockroaches are common in the area, should do absolutely everything possible to ensure that these bugs don't torment guests. Merely offering an excuse to say that cockroaches are normal in Durban, for us, clearly is not acceptable, especially when you have one crawling across your pillow at bed time. I stopped short at putting the pictures here.
-As it is humid and hot in Durban for most of the year, having an air-conditioning system in place that does the necessary would seem obvious. However, the air conditioner which is placed directly above the head of the bed, is useless because you cannot sleep with the air blowing directly onto your head the whole night.
-The bathroom is the size of a shoe box and it is impossible for two adults to be in this room at the same time. The worst, however, is the sliding door to this room which cannot be shut completely and gives zero privacy (when you need it most). A joke!
-The beds in the room are not suitable for people taller than 1.70meters. My feet were always outside of the bed, not making it a comfortable sleep, the mattress was also uncomfortable.
-TV screen is very small and with not much choice of channels
-Parking is difficult and tight
-Although there is a comprehensive security system in place including panic buttons, the approach to the house is, in our view, dangerous after dark with a steep drive way leading up to the house

Although it is possible to eat breakfast at the house, we did not avail this service.

Owner seemed friendly and accommodating to our small dogs. Although this is pet friendly there isn't a closed area for pets unless one is happy to let the dogs roam in the yard. House is located on a steep landscape. Drive way is easy to drive up but parking is limited. Owner does allow one park in the garage which is left open. No grass for the dogs only a landscaped garden on a steep bank. Room is neat and tidy. Aircon works well however located in front of the bed facing one when sleeping which could cause a cold. The neighbor is a metal fabricator and isn't too concerned about using his tools at 7am in the morning and on a Saturday. The property is located on a very busy road so expect to hear a lot of cars driving by. Across the road is a conservancy which, in durban is probably home to snakes. There are monkeys living here which cone over and make a noise and steal from units if left open. Pool is pretty small and swimming pool pump is left permanently on. The shower head is not very water wise and the mixing of hot and cold water is pretty difficult, you either get lukewarm water or hot water.

I was looking for a place to stay for 1 night during a very busy time in December. Shelbourne Lodge had a cancellation and I was lucky to get one of their rooms. I was weighing up location, photos, cost etc for a while. Let me just save you time and say no need to do that! It is perfect and amazing!!

The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautiful, spacious and well equiped. I was in the upstairs room which shares a lounge and small kitchen with one other room. Perfect to book together.

I also loved the save parking, views, how easy it was to get on and off the highway, proximity to the beach and small shopping centre and of course...the pool and jacuzzi!

We stayed at Shelbourne on 2 different dates, in different rooms over the December holidays. We received excellent service from the owner, he is also willing to walk the extra mile for special requests. Both rooms were spacious, clean and puts you in holiday mood from the word go. Parking is safe and we thoroughly enjoyed cooling off in the swimming pool and relaxed in the evenings in the Jacuzzi!

This is a lovely guest house for business travelers. Beautifully furnished rooms and consists of all amenities needed for self-catering purposes. The room was clean and very comfortable. The bed wasn't that comfortable as it was two single beds put together without the extra cover that usually makes it more comfortable. The bathroom is very very small. Parking is quite a mission. Lindsay is a very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely make use of the establishment when travelling for business.

Very good location, good service, nice beautiful house, friendly staffs, highly recommend.
This is a safe and quiet place with parking and monkeys! The view is excellent and face to ocean. Only a few minutes drive to gateway shopping mall and La lucia mall. It is easy to go to city and airport. Only a few minutes drive to beach.

Lovely lodge, great room, with balcony and small kitchen, with fridge and tea/coffee making. Didn't sample breakfast but am sure it would be great!
My only tiny criticism would be that the pool could have done with a better clean. However, we would definitely stay there again. Good position in the village, close to shopping, restaurants, but in a quiet area. Thank you, just great !
