We stayed at this B & B for the duration of the Fish River canoe marathon with our little dog.
We were made very welcome and the breakfasts were great. The cottage we stayed in was clean, spacious and we could keep our little dog with us.The gardens are large and very pretty.
This is definitely the place to stay in Cradock.

My wife and i included Cradock on our tour of E. Cape in order to visit Schreiner Museum and Cape Mountain Zebra national Park. Both are worth a visit but do the park in early morning to see the animals.
Heritage House is well situated on a quiet treed street with some excellent examples of Victorian architecture. Is also walking distance to museum. The house itself is very large but we slept in a rondavel in the huge garden.
Bed is fine and shower worked well. The host Meyrick is welcoming and organised. He prepares an excellent breakfast that includes some home-made vegetarian options for those that want a change from bacon and eggs.
House does not have wi-fi but one can use host's ADSL line each day for an hour or so. Cradock has well preserved Victorian hotel that offers traditional Karoo buffet. 3 courses is R150 or unlimited main course is R95. But go early, 6-6.30pm in order to get the best cuts of meat. Meyrick can recommend a couple of other good restaurants.
The large garden has good bird life and a smallish clean swimming pool. A mystery to me is that in March the garden vines were loaded with wonderful sweet table grapes that are left to rot along with numerous pomegranates from a large tree. Why not pick and serve these at breakfast?

The accommodation was comfortable, but there were a few small things that would have really improved it. The outside door did not lock with the key or latch, the mattress was not good and the shower head sprayed a "jet" of water. However Merricks hospitality and friendliness was great

The internet photos are not what you get. The rooms are not award winning standard anymore. A double bed would have been nice but I had two single beds. No DSTV. Poor quality single ply toilet paper. The shower floor also needs a good clean. Just not the quality expected with the rate charged, however Merrick was very friendly and breakfast was good.

Just spent 2 nights and 3 day in St Lucia on a tour organized by Heritage Tours and Safari with accommodation at Heritage House, which was just magical . We had a spectacular all day drive , a night drive and a boat trip up the estuary. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the food in the bush was brilliant and the accommodation was very comfortable and nothing too much trouble for the staff. Congratulations to all involved.

I really enjoyed staying here - Meryck (hope I got that spelling right!) Is friendly and chatty and I really enjoyed going through the house and getting the stories behind all the antiques. The house has pressed ceilings and wooden floors, which I love. The breakfast was delicious and well cooked. Angus the sheep was a special treat - he thinks he's a dog, its adorable.

Upon arrival the outside cottage had to be accessed while trying to misstep dog and sheep poo. Worse however was fact that bedding (except the sheets) were dirty!! There were stains and bits of old food clinging to the bed cover. Slept in sleeping bag and left asap next morning.

I completely agree with Red947's review & wish we'd read it first!! The quality of the rooms has definitely not improved since then. Our garden room was beyond tired - the shower floor looks dirty & in need of a good scrub, the interior of the en-suite door needs revarnishing & the hand towel holder is rusty beyond words.
The tv is ancient & has no dstv. Unfortunately for us we stayed here on Sunday when Cradock closes & some tv to watch would have helped.
All the furnishings in our room were tired & shabby. The outside paintwork of our room again is in need of re-painting.
The swimming pool is filthy & certainly not the least bit inviting.
The dogs are fine but the sheep bleating on & off is not relaxing & neither is the train line at the bottom of the garden.
The finishing touch is the rat/mouse poison bait box under the chair next to the bed.
We chose this establishment based on the photos & reviews on the booking website & because we wanted somewhere within walking distance of the main town.
This is certainly not good value for money, we paid R950.00 for one night booking through "Rooms for Africa".

"I had a garden room near the pool: very quiet and comfortable. Rooms inside the house are easier access to dining room and parking (which my elderly mother found useful)"
