This place is truly a home away from home. Friendly reception. The kitchen offers a lovely breakfast with eggs fresh from the yard. A added feature is that Heritage House has a lovely garden! And great turn down service. Thank you! Hope to see you soon!
We recently stayed at Heritage Guest House in Alexandria on our road trip back home. We can definitely recommend this establishment to anyone who is looking for accommodation in the Eastern Cape. Beautiful old building rich in history. Comfortable rooms, great hosts and a wondeful breakfast. If you have a bit of time do take a stroll through the town, some lovely old buildings and ambiance.
Our hosts Colleen and Peter were always warm and friendly just like everything else about this lovely old building which is older than Johannesburg, which is a story that the owners love to relate. It offers B & B with a scrumptious home cooked breakfast which is enjoyed before a walk in the spacious grounds which boast a few peacocks, a fish pond and delicious black mulberries in season. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped with shower and bath. A separate kitchen is at the disposal of the guests to prepare light meals and coffee and tea any time they desire. Apparent the town donkey and billy goat sometimes raid the front garden although we missed them on our visit. Highly recommended
The Heritage Guest House was so cute! The sweetest people ever and so clean! They truly are caring! It seemed like a little slice of Home in a month long trip to South Africa! Great food, Beautiful place, and even better people. I would recommend this place x1000!
Kathleen went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and happy. The breakfast was delicious and beautiful. The back yard with its beautiful landscaping, cats, dog, hens and babies felt like an oasis. We will be back.
Traveling from Johnannesburg to Capetown in our rented big camper van we made two mistakes that day that caused us to drive down a bush road on our way to a cabin that we were never going to reach before dark. We decided to turn around and go down town Alexandria when it was already getting dark and we stopped at the Heritage house. Kathleen turned out to be our Saving Angel when she accepted us in and allowed us to camp in the garden, give us a room to shower and a lovely breakfast with the best eggs in South Africa. The Heritage house lives up to its name. The place has been a hotel for 160 years and it's like time stood still with the exception of the modern conveniences. Thank you very much Kathleen and Peter for you generous hospitaltiy.
Staying in a +160 year old building, originally the first Alexandria Hotel, seemed like a brilliant idea when booking my impromptu flash visit. The positives: Clean, attractive, very well-priced, beautiful floors, secure parking, owner and staff very friendly. The big negative ... the noise! Kathleen mentioned the front-facing rooms were a little noisy, understatement of the year! Never-ending loud rumble of trucks passing through. Possibly consider replacing the current sun-filled curtains with double-lined noise-muffling curtains will definitely be beneficial. I was the only person in the building overnight - why accommodate me in the 'noisy' rooms, not sure. Alexandria is a very pretty town, central to many attractions in the area, we'll worth visiting. But if you stay over, make sure you do not have a room facing the main road. Oh yes, and treat yourself to a burger from The Lunchbox ... the juiciest, most delicious I've tasted for ages ... and only R35 for the burger!…
We stayed at this Guest House for one night in a group booking. The room was very comfortable and our hosts were charming and friendly, the breakfast was excellent. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.
