Kathuhari is one of my top 5 places that we have ever stayed at . The themed room ( golf) was huge and very comfortable. Lovely bathroom with huge bath and shower. The service from Gerda and her team was personal and attentive. The breakfast was made to our requirements and delicious. In all 5/5 . Highly recommend.

I stayed in Kathuhari guest house in the sunset room (largest room). On the negative this room is very orange and decorated too frilly for me. The bed has these curtains hanging and can be claustrophobic. One cannnot watch tv in bed as the curtains are in the way. The aircon did not work properly also the one shower did not work. The bath is right infront of the bed (not to my liking). There is no handels to grab as one gets into or out of the shower or the bath. The breakfast was very oily ans salty. On the positive the hostess (lady of the guest house) is very friendly and very chatty. The guest house is WiFi. In the room there a fridge but you have to pay for anything you use (even the water). There is a lapa and a swimming pool. If there is anything one needs the guesthouse will try to assist you with that. There is bar where you can buy beverages. The guest house is on the golf course. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Hi Jagluiperd Thanks for your review on tripadvisor. We strive to always exceed expectations of our guests. Both showers in the Presidential suite are working properly. We have looked into your comments and appreciate your honesty. We are also very honoured to inform you that we are currently the only 5 star guesthouse in the whole of the northern cape. We were graded early in December and are very proud of our 5 stars. We will continue to serve our guests with utmost professionalism. Enjoy travelling.

What a relief to arrive at Kathuhari after a long and eventful drive from Cape Town. The Golf room was absolutely beautiful, complete with a honesty bar fridge and a stunning bathroom, with a bath and shower. The owners and staff were friendly and extremely helpful, the service was better than perfect and the food was excellent. we had such a relaxing time. I can definitely recommend a stay at Kathuhari, better than a home from home, for business or leisure. Well done Paul, Elfie and Lezanne. We will be back!

I've just spent three nights at the Kathuhari Guesthouse on business, my room was great, very comfortable and clean with a terrific view. The problems started on my second day there. I'd bought a few supplies to take to work the following day which I stored in the fridge, when I came back to my room after supper I was met by a snotty note warning me not to keep my own supplies in the room, what was even more unbelievable to me was that somebody had actually gone through my dustbin and picked out the empty cigarette box which I'd thrown away and placed it next to a non smoking sign. An ashtray had been supplied on the table on the patio and that's what I had been using, at no time did I smoke in the room so there was no need for that over exaggeration.

Nearly every surface of the room is covered with warning notes telling guests how to behave.

There is no choice for breakfast, you have to eat whatever the owner wants, prepared the way he wants it, he then stands over you as you eat like the warden of a prison.

Check out time was 10am and seeing as my colleagues and I had a long drive and a late flight we asked if we could check out at 11am, the owner of course said no, his reason being that they were fully booked (which on a Monday was doubtful) and needed us out to get the rooms clean, there was no room for compromise.

His aggressive and uncompromising demeanor is the ruin of what could be a great guesthouse, I will never take my business there again and I would urge others to follow suit.

Dear Tim We took note regarding negative things that occurred during your stay at Kathuhari Guesthouse and surely would like to reply to this. As a 5 x star Guesthouse ( stars rewarded by SA Tourism Board ) , we do have certain rules and regulations to adhere to . We are strickly not a selfcatering Guesthouse as stipulated in our terms and conditions and therefore have stocked mini fridges in our rooms , wine and beer included. Our smoking policy , according to law , is also very strict to ensure that all our guests have a pleasant stay in our Guesthouse. Regarding your complaints :- 1 ) Alcohol in the mini fridge : You removed some of our contents in the fridge to replace it with personal alcohol and other beverages , inspite of the note on the fridge. Our beverages items , which were removed by you was placed on top of the cupboard without any refrigeration . Then we did leave another note to you which read as follows , “ Dear Guest . Unfortunately we are not a self catering guesthouse and do not allow any personal food or drinks in the rooms . We do have a coldroom and are willing to store your private belongings for the interim on a temporary basis. Sorry for the inconvenience . Management “ . Apologies again , but this is in our opinion not a “ rude note “ you referred to in your review . We would have gladly store your beverages ( included the big bottles of water ) in the coldroom , as we normally do with other guests . 2 ) Smoking : Again , with other guests in mind , we also do have a very strict non – smoking policy in the rooms . The cleaning staff entered your room the following morning and experienced a very strong cigarette / smoke smell in your room . Management inspected the room , for we have a R 600 fine for smoking in our rooms. During inspection we found a empty open cigarette box in the room dustbin . It was obvious that the smoke smell comes from the curtains , aswell as the dustbin. Management took the empty box , clean it and then put it next to the non – smoking sign on top of the mini fridge cupboard to indicate again , that we do have a very strict non smoking rule , which you were aware of during your stay . Again , no rude note - only “ No smoking please “ We do accept that you could have smoked outside , but then , may be that the sliding door wasn t closed completely the result a room thats smelling of smoke . Non – smoking guests , are very sensitive for this and we do believe , that you are willing to understand this . 3 ) Breakfast : We offer our guests a buffet , cereals and fruit option and then our own speciality , a prepared warm dish , but also an option to make a choice of how a guest would like the eggs prepared . Exactly this , were offered by our staff that morning , to you and your colleques. 4 ) Check out : Our latest checkout time is , 10h00 and as a result of a watercrisis in Kathu that morning we did approve a late checkout round 11h00 , but you and your colleques were also asked , if possible , if some of you could clear the rooms before 11h00 , because we still need to clean the rooms for new quests , later that day. The waterproblem was solved round about 09h00 and most of your colleques were informed . It is unfair by you , to doubt our word and intecrity on our occupancy for a Monday night , because 6 out of 7 rooms were already booked and payed for and that check in time is from 14h00. We do apologies for these incidents , but we do believe , that it s only fair for us as Owners / Management of the Guesthouse to do a proper statement regarding this. We always strive to give attention to special things in every way possible personal , our facilities , our food and therefor strive to satisfy our guests needs in any possible and human way. To keep these standards to a high for each and every guest , we have to implement some rules and regulations and in the 4 years since our opening , we experienced that the majority of our guests by far , love the ambience of tranquility , peacefulness , exclusitivity and that we always strive to a high standard of “ We try harder “ service , at Kathuhari . Personaly we believe , that it could be better and more acceptable for both parties , to discuss all the facts and complaints in person , as to use mass media. We always have a heart to listen , for you which is the most important asset our Guest ! Thank you

We commenced booking 4 months ago .With 3 people arriving from USA
Plan was too depart Jhb and spend 3 nights relaxing at Kathuhari
The booking process was belaboured. Lezanne was particularly sloppy in email responses.
I can copy these to you
I insisted on a deposit which I paid
When we called Lezanne to advise Nancy s had weather pro elms in Atlanta and we would arrive poss 2 days late she suggested we let Nancy catch up by taking a flite from Lanseria in to Kathu (sic)
Kathuhari were not interested in Delays of International travel Whilst we know they were not full there was no remorse Full payment for 4 due
The establishment is fair
The food is not bad but attitude is eat what we supply
There is no doubt a great opportunity here but regrettably it appears owners are interested in reaping at Ll costs
Food was average
Little concern for individuals own requirements
Spa treatments were vererger average
Again no establishing clients requirements
We overpaid R5000 Actually were ripped off .
Very disappointing and certainly have a bad feeling about management at Kathuhari
Next time will stay at other recommended places on estate

We had a warm welcome, felt like my own family. Treated like never before! Slept better than in my own bed and the SPA treatment was to die for! The sunset was beautiful and the stroll through the Golf course was unbelievable! If I had one word to describe this place, it would be: excellent!

While I was there, I occupied IRON room.
My work allows me to keep changing accommodations every after 11 nights but I always chose the lovely Kathuhari. I found Kathuhari G/house - in its entirety - quite appealing- I therefore stayed there for the entire duration of my work (From March till end of July 2016). I was very much impressed by their etiquette accompanied with respect (a quality I wholeheartedly admire - based on my tradition as a KZN African). The respect oozed from everyone surrounding me: Elfie - (The Manager full of motherly warmth), Maretha (the best chef ever!), Evodia and Peggy (The best waitresses I ever met) , Uncle Paul (The Manager with a sense of humour) and Lizanne (The manager who was always concerned of my well-being - too bad I left soon I should went for a spa! ) everyone treated me with love and kindness - no wonder I never missed home!!!

The meals - were splendid and expensive looking. I took their photos all the time (believe me, I now got an album full them - for my future wife! well, at least Maretha knows I got an album) Her meals prepared with her warm smile and passion made my mind to veer off the challenges of the day and stretchingly appreciate the art involved in its making. During meals (especially the dinner time) I would meet all the new guests and had a hearty chat will almost everyone - (I see Alta's review - I met her there too). Not to mention high court judges and company directors - awesome!!

Iron - the name is behind the room setting - Iron mines photos well-walled and various types of iron mined out - filled my room with beauty and created imagination of work involved to find and bring out this minerals from the depth of the earth. After meals I would find my bed nice and warm due to electric blanket they switched on and the white duvet would be partially open for my easy entrance into my dreamy bed. Everyday afternoon when I would enter my room from a busy day, I was welcomed by glassy container of a sherry wine – it warmed me up! I wonder how I survived the state of being alcoholic. Did I mention a small treat I would always find on my pillow - to nibble at - till I fall asleep?

Kathuhari G/House is located in the heart of animals habitation - rabbits skips about, ducks in the nearby pool and staring springboks and so forth were greeting me virtually every day.

Building: the building and furniture has an adequate touch of a whitish colour - due to white - I was automatically at ease from thinking of spotting dirtiness here and there.

When I left Kathuhari I took all these fine memories with me and of course a bottle of wine as a parting gift - thank you Paul!

Now that I work in a different province, I miss that hospitality everyday.

There is nothing I liked the least.
