Opened by the Gush family in 1999, Woodbury Lodge is an intimate, family-run lodge on Amakhala Game Reserve. Many of our staff have grown up in the area and take pride in ensuring that your African safari experience is a memorable one. Woodbury Lodge offers a secluded base from which to experience exciting Big Five game viewing in the heart of the Eastern Cape bushveld. Nestled discreetly against a cliff in lush riverine bush, the Lodge offers spectacular views of the Bushman’s River valley. Guests are accommodated in seven comfortable stone–and–thatch sleeping lodges, surrounded by indigenous trees alive with birdsong. Each room has air conditioning, en–suite bathrooms with heated floors and a private deck with magnificent views over the plains. Within the portfolio are two family lodges which sleep up to four guests, allowing families to enjoy the African bush together. The seclusion of each suite, along with the

We only stayed for one day, but we were treated like complete royalty. From welcome drinks to warm towels after a game drive. They also did their best to accommodate us as vegans. Really is worth a trip and I hope in future we can go again, for longer.

Very good game lodge in beautiful game reserve! The room was comfortable and sleep quality is good but the shower/bathroom is in need of some maintenance. We stayed for three nights and had six amazing game drives - all interesting and worth it! The field guide adapted to our needs (as we like birding) and is friendly and knowledgeable. The food is fair to good. The service at the lodge is friendly and the staff accommodating! Thanks for a wonderful stay Woodbury Lodge!!

We spent two nights at the Woodbury Lodge and went on four game drives. The lodge is located in a very nice surrounding with a great view over the park, we could even spot wild animals from our porch. Our room was comfortable and clean. Be conscious that you are close to nature, we had a few spiders visiting our hut, harmless ones but quick on their feet. Game drives were really nice and our guide Seamus made them even better - so knowledgeable and friendly. We saw something new every drive and stopped for coffee with stunning views along the way. Meals at the lodge was served family-style with all guests, making it easy to connect and talk about the experiences from the day. Food was no culinary experience but definitely OK. Overall we had a great experience and would recommend Woodbury Lodge to others looking for a Safari-experience in the area.

We stayed for 3 nights, it was our second time staying at Amakhala. We had the giraffe lodge which was spotlessly clean, bed really comfy. The food was delicious and we very much enjoyed the serve yourself bar😃 The stars if the show were the animals themselves, which we got to see twice a day on the game drives with Nikki our guide. She was very knowledgable and was keen to impart that knowledge. Not only that, she was an excellent reverser! We had some fantastic sightings , even managed to see the cheetah on a very wet and cold evening drive. Was wonderful, I’ll always remember it. We hope that all the staff who worked so hard to make our stay so special are safe and well. We hope too one day to be able to come back to enjoy another stay in your little slice of paradise.

If you are looking for a well-run private game reserve surrounded by rolling hills and lots of wild animals, this place is ideal. Excellent food, lovely rooms and friendly staff. Our game ride guide was outstanding and we saw all of the Big 5 in just two trips.
