Amazing time at Bukela Game Lodge in the Amakhala. Everything from when we arrived to the staff to the game drives was exceptional. Special mention to Sammy and, our game ranger, Wonga. He was so accommodating, knowledgeable and made sure we saw everything the Amakhala had to offer. Will 100% do it again!y

Amazing couple of days spent at Bukela Game Lodge. Wonderful staff and a fabulous setting. Our ranger Wonga was brilliant. He was extremely knowledgeable and made sure we saw as much of the wild game as possible. Thank you to the whole team who made our stay something we will remember for a very long time.

A great lodge with nice individual chalets set far apart with connecting boardwalks. Excellent food and really superb game viewing with experienced, knowledgeable and friendly rangers. The staff were all extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. The waterhole viewing from the elevated hide provided some great on-site viewing in addition to the game drives. The camp is unfenced so animals could wander in and through making for some special moments. all in all a great stay.

we stayed just one day but it was great. had three game drives all with mondey one of the most experienced rangers we had met. best experience in safari drives. the whole staff was exceptionally polite and helpful. all meals were great especially considering where they had been prepared in the middle of nowhere. rooms and tents comfortable and nice and clean. Samy the waitress super kind. you definitely could have expected less for your money ;) or with other words the trip is worth more than we have paid.

Unfortunately Booking.Com appear to have completely ignored our timely request to change our departure date to 13th February- so we are owed a refund for our lost day….and tainted our visit. Our ranger Lucky was exceptionally knowledgeable and did his best to ensure that everyone had a good experience.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The "tents" were so comfortable, the food options delicious, and the staff so friendly and helpful - thank you so much to Zeus and the team. We had our young adult children wtih us and we all appreciated little children not being allowed at this lodge. Great massage too. We saw so many animals and it surpassed our expectations getting so close to them, we all made so many memories, and felt lucky to have "Lucky" as our guide and learned a lot from him. 3 nights is plenty, even 2 plus a night drive would have been okay, although that might be that we saw so many animals each time. Our only suggestions for improvement would be to have some options for shaded sun beds at the tents or in the many areas, it was very hot and there were no parasols, and it seemed a shame to have to sit indoors. Many thanks to everyone, we have recommended Bukela to so many friends and family. We hope to be back one day...

If you are looking to holiday and experience a safari, we know there is much choice. However we would highly recommend this small, boutique reserve. From the moment you arrive, the experience, location, service, was exceptional. We stayed for 3 nights which we believed was enough and on our two drives each day we saw every animal in their natural habits that you could imagine. Ryan our ranger was outstanding and a credit to the team their. Superb knowledge & understanding of both the area and of course the animals, which he is luck enough to see every day - what a job!

Bukela is the best! The game drives were exceptional. We saw more animals than we ever expected to see. The Amakhala Game Reserve is stunning. The tent, lodge, service, and food all exceeded our expectations. We loved spending our afternoons by the pool, looking for animals at the watering hole. We will be back!

Nice stay - we enjoyed ourselves! The game drives were great! The Lodge itself was a bit of a let down. Definitely not 5-star. Quite basic and lacking in maintenance and creativity. Everything is there but that’s it. Lacking in love such as candles on the tables, fresh flowers, plants in pots around the swimming pool area. Nobody swam by the way - pool is too small and water looks murky. And then the food … this is not good - seriously lacking in love too: it is all overcooked, greasy and quite basic. Not up to standard at all. I do not mind basic if well prepared. We were in tent 9 which I would not recommend. Being close to the restaurant meant a constant distant bass beat from the music played in the main building - this started at 5 am and stopped at 11 pm. Also when staff arrives at 5 am in the morning or leaves at 11 pm there is a lot of talking, shouting, car doors slamming, engines starting etc. i thought we would be in very quiet places in nature but that is absolutely not the case. When I mentioned the music to the general manager upon our leave she told me in a very lackluster way that she had asked the staff to turn the volume down but that they do not listen? This doesn’t give me much hope for future guests of tent #9…. Staff overall are friendly.

We were greeted by Lodge Manager Andrea who made us very welcome. The room originally allocated to us was some way from the main buildings and up a steep incline which would not have suited my wife who suffers from back problems and Andrea managed to swap this for the nearest of the rooms - good service indeed. The room itself was spacious, a little rustic and freestanding bath tub and separate shower. All very comfortable. Meals are served in the main dining area, the food is not bad certainly not gourmet and we would like to have seen more lighter options such as fish. The inclusive wine list is simple and adequate but there were no "excluded wines" worth paying for. Dining room service was excellent. Our ranger, Evence, was quite good and we had some great sightings particularly Cheetah and Rhino. He was not so strong on birds which is a particular interest for us. The Lodge is situated some 7km back from the main road and is a bumpy ride so I would recommend an SUV rather than saloon car. We enjoyed our stay very much and with a few minor improvements it could be a true five star property.
