A very authentic lodge with history. We went on 2 x3 hour safari's each day and each time we saw different animals. During our 3 night stay we saw 4 of the Big 5 plus many other animals expertly pointed out by our Ranger, Marley. Lodge staff, especially Penny, were exceptional, constantly going the extra mile for the guests. Food was excellent quality and plentiful. You really won't go hungry here!. Rooms are traditional, spacious and clean. Some of the fixtures, like the showers are older as you would expect in a property of this age. All in all, a great place to stay and experience the animal kingdom in the Amakhala reserve. Thanks to all the stay for an excellent time.

Our experience at the Leeuwenbosch Country House can only be described as magical. I was not sure what to expect as I have never been to South Africa. The country house was a charming picture of preserved history. It was comfortable with spacious rooms and peaceful atmosphere. It was like visiting home. The staff was super attentive and friendly. Kerry and Steve were welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Meals and beverages were included in our stay and the food was tasty and plentiful. The safari rides through the game reserve were something everyone should experience in their life. The landscape was beautiful. The experience left me speechless. The safari guides were friendly, knowledgable and sincere. Absolutely a memory of a lifetime and we cannot wait to return.…

Well worth the visit. Awesome historical buildings meets South African bush and world class hospitality. A must add on the safari bucket list. We spent several nights at Leeuwenbosch and come back regularly.

If you are after a game lodge in the wild then this is not 100% it. It is a elegant farm house with a nice veranda overlooking a quite busy road with nice farm style food served in cosy dining room. Fantastic game drives morning and late afternoon with knowledgable rangers and lots of wild close up! Friendly staff and personal touches all over! The only problem was we expected the game lodge in the bush viewing animals from your room but it was our mistake as we did not do enough research before. On Amakhala there are many different other accommodation options that might give you more of the bush experience.

Staying at Leeuwenbosch Country House was definitely a highlight of our South Africa Roadtrip. The house is very clean and it’s furniture and especially the people make it very homey. We felt comfortable and welcomed right away. Everything is catered for and the food was really good. But the highlight were definitely the game drives. We only stayed for one full day but saw 4 out of the big 5. It was a very special experience!

We had incredible sightings of the lions, cheetahs, rhino, elephants and even an aardwolf. The staff made this experience wonderful and made us feel at home. The meals were also all very decent, standard and vegan. Only downsides were the house being right on the N2 so road noise not ideal and also the AmaKhala booking team was not great, ignored emails and failed to follow up on useful information requested on the phone.

The Leeuwenbosch Country House is the perfect destination to safari in the Amakhala Game Reserve. The accommodations are clean and beautiful, the staff wonderful, and the food delicious. Best of all of course are the morning and afternoon drives. Our ranger was awesome and we saw many different kinds of animals, including all of the Big 5! I highly recommend this lodge.

(Review from November 2018) This was our first ever safari/trip to South Africa and from the second we arrived at Leeuwenbosch, Namonde made us feel so welcome and at home. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay! We were lucky enough to have Mali as our safari guide and he was so knowledgeable and informative, making every drive a huge success, despite the bad weather meaning animals were trickier to find. The only animals we didn't see were hippos and leopards. We stayed in three rooms during our 4 night stay at the lodge (through choice, not due to any issues) and each one was lovely and comfortable, with unique decor in each. We were based in the Shearers Lodge for one night which, understandably due to the much cheaper price, was more basic however still clean and comfortable. If you can however, I'd recommend staying in the main house. All of our meals were perfect, and the lack of menu/choice was never a problem for us - if anything it was nice to have the decision taken out of our hands for a change. …
