Soak in a luxurious double bath or splash off the dust in an outdoor shower before sharing your day's adventures around the fireside under a canopy of stars. On a recommended three day safari enjoy game drives with a professional guide in open Landrovers, sun downers on a river cruise and a visit to Addo National Elephant Park. We had the absolute privilege of spending 2 very memorable nights at Amakhala Safari Lodge. From the minute we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Lucille & Jean Luc, making us feel right at home. We stayed in Lodge 1, where we had a perfect view of the watering hole and all the different game coming there at different times. Norman, the Elephant was a huge Wow Factor for us. Besides seeing him 2 mornings in a row at the watering hole, he came right by our lodge and put his trunk in the dip pool. Martin, our game ranger was a wealth of knowledge and his incredible passion for the wildlife, birdlife and plant life, is so evident. Jean Luc looked after us during all our meals and his service, friendliness was truly superb. Lastly, the Chef, who prepared all of the outstanding meals, deserves a Special Thank You. Look no further for the ultimate spoil at Amakhala Safari Lodge. Nat & Greer

We visited here in June 2019 on our honeymoon & we really loved it!! It was all such an amazing experience from start to finish!! Our room was half house/ half tent (very secured though)! It was big & spacious with private plunge pool. We were near one of the watering holes so throughout the day you got to see different animals come & go. We went on 2 drives per day. Early in the morning & then in the afternoon. The morning was a little cold & there were blankets & hot water bottles provided. It got much warmer as the day went on. The food was amazing - we ate so much! It was all gorgeous! We got to see so many animals! We had a fantastic ranger Mnomi! So knowledgable & lovely to all of the guests. We also got to do a private tour to another elephant park too. We had a fantastic experience & would love to some day do it all again!! :)

Superb service with a quirky half-tent half-chalet;mosquito net over the bed. Free mini-bar but hardly any time to use it! After the first night we wondered why the room was so hot - it was because the underfloor heating was on! I travelled without my laptop cable, but the front office staff managed to find one for me - I think one of the other staff lent it to me! One of our three days was a day trip to Addo Elephant Sanctuary which was a good contrast in itself. Slight drawbacks: the Safari Lodge is in a separate part of the game reserve and it is about a 15-minute frive there and back each time to get to the main part where the predators are. Only one very small pride (2 or 3) lions; we heard a lot about how expensive it was to keep them. A slight feeling of non-authenticity in that this area (like the other game reserves nearby) had been created from individual farms after the end of aparthied and stocked with wild animlas which were bought in. We were told stories of how some animals had died - especially in the early days - when the owners obviously didn't know as much about how to care for them as they do now. On leaving Amakhala we had 3 days at Shamwari, which was a whole big step up (in price too)
