Casa de Felipe was terrific. Our family of 4 (with daughters 13 and 10) stayed in room 31, which had two double beds, a bunk bed, and a kitchen with 4-burner gas stove and a medium-sized refrigerator. It was great for us. We could play cards and watch the sunset on our private balcony. The pool was great, and we could use the small gym, play some ping pong, and swing in plentiful hammocks around the property. The staff was very helpful, and prepared good food and drinks morning and night. The property is a few blocks up a modest hill from the main activity area, and we walked everywhere we needed to go in town, including our scuba tour guides. I highly recommend Casa de Felipe for families traveling to Taganga!

We loved it here. The staff were welcoming and helpful. It felt completely safe due to the locked gated entrance, secure rooms and lockers within the rooms. The building is colourful with fantastic facilities including many comfortable hammocks and a lovely pool area. We particularly loved the top floor where we spent every evening in a hammock watching the sunset over the sea.

We enjoyed our stay at La Casa de Felipe.

In general, our room was clean and well looked after. We loved the small terrace outside our room with hammocks and deck chairs for us to be able to socialise with our friends, who they kindly put into the room next to us. The Mirador was also a fantastic place to watch the sunset and enjoy the wonderful mix of birds that fly around this area.

The staff here stand out as amazingly supportive. Before we even arrived they were offering us guidance about beach reservations. Then we had to be isolated whilst visiting (due to a possible contact with COVID and then delayed results) and the hotel were great at supporting us, while ensuring everyone stayed safe.

The restaurant is also a stand out for us. Ricardo and his wife Natalia work super hard. There is a limited number of dishes but they are all delicious (my favourite was the chicken curry) and we loved having a brownie and ice cream as we watched the sunset. We ate out a few times, but kept reverting back to the restaurant onsite.

Our only downside is the ventilation in the rooms. We booked knowing there was no AC, which was fine as there were ceiling fans. However, the open tiles in the rooms, which also helped cool the room, meant we were constantly bombarded by mosquitoes.

The hotel is located 10 minutes walk from the sea front, which we preferred as the area was generally quiet. You walk past a couple of little stores to pick up provisions too. However, we don't recommend staying New Year's Eve- the locals play music so loud the room vibrates and this lasted 36 hours.

Taganga is not the nicest or safest place in this area of Colombia so it's important to find somewhere comfortable and secure whilst staying there. This place seems to fit the marker and we hoped to spend one night here to get a good night's sleep before heading to Tayrona National Park the following morning.
It wasn't quite the good nights sleep we were after so I wouldn't stay here if you're planning on getting some R&R, as much as it looks as though it's the right place for this I can assure- its not.
The main problem with this place is the noisy music that is played incessantly from the neighbours surrounding the hostel. At the time we stayed (it's early feb) it's been carnival time so it's even noisier. I had been warned about the loud music at night but brushed it off thinking it was just them who may have had a bad experience and assumed we would have a quieter room.
We did have a quiet room (so it seemed) at the back of the hostel, it looked clean and promising. To cut a long story short, I awoke at 3:30 am to the pounding echoing sound of reggaeton music reverberating around the room, so noisy I could have been next to the speaker myself. This combined with the rock hard bed which was genuinely the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in and the incredibly noisy fan swinging around on the bedroom ceiling, I would have been better off sleeping in a airfield. They also conveniently have a very loud cockerel (cocka-doodle-do) which crows all hours through the night in the courtyard. The dribbling freezing cold shower and the fact that there was no wifi in our private room didn't help things.
I thought our noise was bad but the next morning over breakfast the rest of the guests were exchanging stories about nights of bad sleep and much of them heard the music much louder than we did, so how they slept I cannot imagine.
To top it off, we started the next morning in a mad panic trying to chase a HUGE cockroach out of our room which was on the floor when we woke up- which had started wriggling into our clothes. The cleaner had to come and remove it, she then hurriedly said 'Don't worry, it wasn't a cockroach' after spending 5 minutes trying to get it out of the room whilst squeaking in Spanish, even though I have seen many cockroaches before and I know what they look like. Really nasty.

...Pros were the food available there was very nice and the staff were friendly, but still would not recommend to friends unless you don't want to sleep during your stay.

It seems to be common among costenos that they dont smile or appreciate your business. However, we were not shown around, we were not told hello, we were over charged, the place was dead, the walk up the hill was very sketch, the internet was not great....
They also dont speak much english which normally doesnt matter much but the only woman who could speak a little refused to provide ANY information on tours and ideas of what to do in town.
I do NOT recommend this property.
The rooms with out ac are very hot like an oven as there is no ventilation.

After several recommendations by fellow travellers I emailed the hostel to arrange a few nights acommodation just before we travelled into the jungle for a few days. The day we returned we flew from Quito and when I checked my email they had left a message saying a deposit was required, fair enough, but I had to reply to get the paypal account for the deposit, and we where in the airport so I explained what was happening and bearing in mind I was about to fly so would have limited emailing ability so sent them a copy of my flight details from the operator, confirming we would be at the hostel within 8 hours.
As our flights progressed we got delayed on the final part of our journey, by our last airport there was no reply so I guessed all was fine but again I emailed them explaining what was happening.
In the end we were delayed by 4 hours and we arrived just after midnight, the reception was closed and the security guard had no record of our booking and was the most unhelpful human around!
For a French run establishment I was shocked and appalled at the level of service, having had many many trips to France we expected more.
In the end we found a place for the night, much to my relief.
The next day we went to speak to the management but there were 3 young women on the recption who didn't care less either, and dismissed our complaint, obviously contempt for the customer is the norm so I am glad we ended up elsewhere.

casa de felipe is the worst guesthouse ive stayed in in south america! they should call themselves backpacker factory, as you feel like a produce in an assembly line. i guess felipe is long back in france and everything is going to pieces. there is no atmosphere at all, (typical lonely planet our-pick crowd assembly-lining their way through breakfast tickets, internet coupons and enduring the third unjustified reminder of paying a key deposit which they have already payed). they have bad wifi signal and polyester linen, the toilet in our room did not work. the staff doesnt trust you or care in any way about your wellbeing or for you to have a pleasurable stay. they are extremely disorganized, incompetent and unhelpful.

so far so bad - what followed was just unbelievable:

i went for a 4 day trip to la guajira, my boyfriend had to stay behind to get some work done. the morning of my return i called casa de felipe to ask to speak to my boyfriend (to tell him i was coming back that day and to check out so we could take a double in a nicer hostel). i spoke to a girl in spanish first and when she failed to find my boyfriend she passed me on to a guy called cesar who spoke english. he failed to find my boyfriend as well and reassured me several times that there was no person of that name in the hostel. i assumed he had checked out - understandable given the horrible atmosphere at felipe. i came back to taganga where i spent an hour looking for my bf in other hostels, oddly he had not left me a message about changing hostel, so i was just randomly looking around with no clue. suspicious i went to casa felipe and inquired again. they still insisted he wasnt there and couldnt tell me when he had checkd out either or where he went. i urged them to have another look but they just refused on grounds of "he isnt here". by pure coincidence ust then an australian girl i knew passed by, i asked her and she said she had seen my bf the previous night IN THE HOSTEL and that she knew he was here. here i got angry. i insisted they have a PROPER look and - surprise - after 20 sec. he was suddenly found.there was no free room in the hostel so i said we would leave now and not pay for the night (it was around 3pm then) because they failed. the girl then said check out was over and we had to pay the night, that she hadnt taken any call in the morning and that i was obviously lying. get that: THEY MADE A MISTAKE AND THEN CALLED ME A LIAR!!! i asked here to call cesar with whom id spoken, and she refused. i asked to talk to the boss, she said he was not here. i asked her to call him and she refused. by that time my boyfriend had appeared and went back to his room to pack his stuff. the other girl just said "make the bill ready, WITH this night" and then they just IGNORED me and my plead to talk to the boss or the guy i had spoken to. they didnt even look at me and talked to other guests over my head. the other girl then went after my boyfriend to his room to tell him again he had to pay the night, (by then it was obvious to them that we would just leave without paying, because even though they actually pretended to not speak english (!!!) to make it harder for us, it later turned out they spoke it perfectly well) she then again called me a liar in front of my bf who at that point - and hes quite a calm guy - got quite angry as well and, god knows how, threatened her into finlly calling the guy i had talked to. i heard both following phone calls she made. the guy, cesar, admitted to have talked to me and not found my bf in the list. she then repeatedly tried to extract some sort of other turn of events out of him, like, "yes, but didnt you SAY his name and then she just didnt understand?" etc. - i couldnt believe my ears. anyway, the story was clear. next she did call her boss which by now miraculously worked and told him what happened whereas he said to not charge the night. she then asked me again (incredulous!) if i had called and stated my boyfriends correct name. i just stared at her in disbelief. then she said - in a way as if we had to be grateful (!) - "its ok. you can check out now". when we payed the other nights they were still extremely unfriendly and did not apologize in the sligtest or show any sign of regret!

i have no words for this entire thing. they are the most incompetent, rude and stupid bunch of hostel employees i have ever encountered. i can thoroughly advice anybody in their right mind to not set a foot in this terrible hostal!

Ok, so let me be super straight with you: Casa Felipe is LOVELY. Taganga, on the other hand, well...not so much.

Let's begin with the hostel:

Great accommodations and quite more like a little hotel or budget resort than a hostels. It was just gorgeous! I couldn't get over how pretty it all was when I arrived, by night, and drenched by the rain. I'm pretty sure I had to rub my eyes as though to say, "Am I seeing things?" :)

I was greeted by a warm, sweet welcome with information galore and such a happy welcoming it was as though I was expecting a standing ovation, or tears of joy or something. ;) Like, they were that good.

The hostel is, like I said, really expansive and more like a hotel than a hostel. I got a private room for this one - big spender! - and didn't regret it. It was a lovely large room, with a great big double bed, 2 fans, a shower (cold water only, of course), and tons of lovely shuttered windows. It was a really lovely little spot off the beaten track in Taganga.

Ok, so I say, "Off the beaten path" with a bit of a giggle, because to be honest, Taganga is more like a beaten path than anything else...a town I couldn't grow to love, no matter how hard I tried, but boy did I try. That said, my returns to La Casa de Felipe were always happy ones, always a relief and a soft landing from the hard fall that is Taganga.

I heard good things from a guy in my dive centre. I had been staying in another hostel, but visited him in case de Felipe & it was so fabulous that I moved! The staff was always very friendly & willing to help me with my travel plans locally & throughout Colombia. The dorm was spotlessly clean, tidied every morning. Fresh bed linen & towels were refreshed during my stay. I always felt very comfortable....a home away from home! The mirador is fabulous & sunset views are the best. Such a wonderful hostel. No need to waste time anywhere else, head straight for cash de Felipe, you certainly won't be disappointed!

A large hostel about 400m from the town/beach area, easily walkable but what sets this aside from the usual hostel is the size of and setup of the communal areas.

They have a great mirador with views out over the bay of Taganga plus a multitude of hammocks around the hostel to just lay back and relax in.

I've heard no complaints about the dorms but am staying in a private room, these are good sized and have private bathrooms. The beds are comfortable and kept clean, the rooms have a safe but seem pretty secure anyway.

There is a guest kitchen with all the usual things needed and a big area to eat in. There is also a shop/snack bar which provides good basic and well prices meals throughout the day.

All in all a good base to operate from with a nice relaxed feel.
