This place has a breathtaking location and the huts where you stay are super cool. I think overall the staff is really nice and helpful but the food at the restaurant sucks and is WAY overpriced. Additionally, the hotel allows the local boat drivers to rip off people staying there when it comes to catching a ride...which is more annoying than anything else. Would be cool if WiFi actually worked in every room as well. Water pressure in the showers for the price they charge as well is way too low. The amount of money they are making in Colombia provides this resort with more than enough resources to step up their restaurant game and some of the minor annoyances per amenities. I think if this place really took the food that they serve seriously then it could be one of the go to places in Santa Marta. I guess another thing to be aware of is how insanely packed the beach gets. The amount of tourists during high season below is unsafe. There are also some really cool areas where you could go hiking but I was advised multiple times that it's "dangerous". I've lived in Colombia for three plus years and you kind of get that everywhere but I am looking forward to the day when it's safe to walk around anywhere here without worrying about petty theft from some random dude in the bushes! :)

Very mixed opinions of this place. On the one hand, the views from the rooms are lovely, as are the rooms themselves. The location on the steep hillside is also great and quite unusual, so is the layout of the hotel; split over many levels connected with steps and walkways. But the prices by comparison to other hotels are far too high - this is certainly NOT a luxury hotel. For starters, the running water is poor, with no hot water at all. My room and my friends' rooms weren't fitted with mosquito nets, and the wooden slats allow in hundreds of mosquitoes (we all got bitten despite covering ourselves with DEET). The pool water was murky, the baby pool looked like it needed a good clean. I wasn't impressed by the quality of the restaurant food, a lot of it seemed to be cooked from frozen rather than fresh, overcooked meat and barely a vegetable to be seen. Plus many of the foods and drinks on the menus were out of stock and not available. This wouldn't have been a problem but you can't leave the hotel after about 6pm and can't eat or drink elsewhere, as it's accessible only by a boat and the boat guy doesn't work later than that. Most of the hotel staff leave at about 7:30 / 8pm...on our first evening when we ate at the restaurant, the restaurant staff just left us without clearing our plates away or saying goodbye, so we just saw ourselves back to our rooms leaving the deserted restaurant, plates and glasses out with noone around: very odd service. The Eco Hotels website advertises the beach below as if it's nice - it's not. Like Tagagna beach, it's littered with bits of rubbish and glass, we even saw a floating condom in the sea. The hotel staff recommended that we didn't venture down at night due to security concerns and we followed their advice. There isn't anything 'eco' about the place. The opposite almost - they keep a beautiful grey parrot in a faeces-covered cage on the hillside, without any company or shelter for it, no toys for it either. The poor thing is just sits there in its cage. Also, both my room and my friend's room had problems with the electricity where we had to get security staff at night to mess about with the fuse boxes following power outages. None of this would normally bother me too much (except the caged parrot), but considering how the hotel is marketed and charges a high rate I expected better. Mind you, most of the staff were really nice and helpful (except one chap who was so grumpy it was comical) which was really appreciated. Overall, an unusual hotel which I did like, but it does need to make some improvements if it wants to continue charging the high rate that it does.

I can only repeat many of the reviews below. The views from the hotel are lovely overlooking the bay and evening sunsets. We had a suite with a jacuzzi shared with another room which was perfect for two lazy days at the end of our holiday. Comfortable beds and usual in-room amenities.

When we stayed the hotel was empty. At no point did we see more than 8 people. As a result there was no breakfast buffet and meals in the restaurant took a long time to serve. The beach below was crowded mainly with locals and didn't offer decent lunch alternatives. We did take a boat into Taganga proper for dinner one night and had delicious whole fish.

Bring insect repellent and lots of it. The rooms have no mosquito nets and we were bitten alive.

For the price we paid I expected more. It is a very different option from the hostels on the main beach but with a bit of work could be so much better.

Overall, this hotel needs a lot of work; perhaps by a new management team that has ever been to an "eco" resort or any high-end hotel of the type Jaba Nibue pretends to be.

Although branded as an "eco resort," there is no indication that the property has any "eco" features such as alternative energy, environmental stewardship, or a natural setting. Instead, there is garbage laying around the property and surrounding area, especially the beach below...it is disgusting, unclean.

Although the construction aims for luxury, the amenities and service miss the mark. Don't get me wrong, the staff are nice and seem like they're trying to do they're best in a failing hotel that has clearly provided no training. The pool is not properly cleaned, the food is unsafe, the walls in the rooms have lizard poop on them...and then there are the flies. There are flies everywhere, absolutely everywhere.

Where a professionally run hotel would have consistent service, airport and town transfers, water activities, and a competent concierge that does not inflate typical prices beyond credibility, Jaba Nibue offers a disappointing experience at an exorbitant price for the value. Stay elsewhere; I wish I had.

This place was terrible.

We were a group of 14 people, willing to have a good time in santa marta.
when we arrived our rooms were dirty, one of the bathrooms was cloggedd, other room had a bat flying around and a hole in the roof. And it was very difficult to get different rooms

The food was terrible. A couple of our friends got food poison with the hotel sea food. There was an infestation of flys that made impossible to eat out doors. We have been a lot of outdoors places with flies, this was a different story.

The worse part was that when we went to talk with the manager she didn't showed much interest on making future changes, her answer was that only our group had complained in the last year. Hard to believe it.

Also, be aware that you will always need a small boat to get out of the hotel and you will need to return by certain time at night. You will need to pay for each trip.

The beach at the hotel is not nice. Dirty, lot of trash, you wouldn't want to spend the day there.

This hotel doesn't help you to organize any activities you are on your own. This can be a problem because you are really isolate at this hotel.

The view and the rooms are great but considering the price paid for hosting the restaurant and bar should be open until late (close at 8 PM)

The worst part: Me and my husband were robbed. We left our money every days in the safe box and even then we missed 400 dolars after check out.

Totally do not recommend!!!

We just finished our trip to Jaba Nibue. We thought that the location was great but the service was terrible. The staff is apathetic and the pool is always dirty, the rooms were not cleaned properly and there were bugs entering at night. It's sad because it could be an amazing place with the right management. It seems like they'll have some competition in the area soon though. We're just disappointed because it's pretty expensive and doesn't deliver on what you pay for.

Perhaps the idea with which it was conceived was good, but definitely there is nothing Eco in this hotel. The product price relationship is very unbalanced, with this high price your service expectations are for a luxury hotel which this hotel is not able to deliver.

It has ceased to be. It is no more. It is no longer with us. It is a steaming, hot pile of ash. It has been reduced to rubble. Check the Colombian news. It wasn’t damaged, it was obliterated. There is nothing left. Adiós. Goodbye. Kaput.

I had extremely high expectations when visiting this hotel with my wife. Given the photos seen online, and the high price paid (by far the most expensive in the area), I was dreaming about a perfect relaxing vacation with nothing but amazing 5-star service. What I got was the complete opposite. I literally feel like I was robbed - paid the price of gold and was sold sh!t.

To start, this hotel DOES NOT HAVE WIFI*** and is extremely far from the airport (45 minute hot taxi ride + 10 minute scary boat ride to a remote location off shore). Upon arriving at the hotel at 8:00pm, the place seemed to be completely deserted: no lights, no music, no people - NOTHING! There were only 2 employees on site: an armed security guard who seemed like a thug, and a receptionist with a bad cocky attitude. My first impression was bad, and it only got worse as I spent the night (I had no other option - once you arrive at this hotel, you are pretty much stuck... something like a horror movie).

When stepping into my room, the first sense I got was an old smell of rotten dust. The AC did not work well (and it's VERY HOT in Santa Marta). The room had a ceiling fan which had to be 30+ years old, and sounded as if it was going to fall on top of the bed. The bed was very uncomfortable and did not feel clean. My only hopes to cool off was a cold shower - but for some reason, the only type of water that came out of the bathroom was BOILING HOT!

I spent a horrible night. My dream of spending a perfect vacation was already shaterred. Although I figured that with such a high price charged for the room, at the very least I could find comfort with a delicious breakfast - NOT! The only items available for breakfast were plain old fried/scrambled eggs with white bread and watered down orange juice... what the heck? I think a 1-star $30/night Motel could serve a better breakfast.

To make a long story short, I wanted to find the positive in this hotel since it is so far away and complicated to move to another hotel, but it was impossible. One bad detail after another, around mid day I decided it was enough, and I called the front desk to complain and ask if it was possible to check out and receive a refund for the remaining nights I had already paid. To my surprise, the same cocky receptionist who checked me in the night before said "well Mr. LASTNAME, when you arrived last night I already knew by your appearance that you would not be happy at this hotel". After such remark I immediately requested to speak with a manager and I was told he/she was not on site. I hung up the phone and was called back 5 minutes later stating that somebody was on the way to pick up my bags.

I was furious, after paying over COP$1'500'000 for only 3 nights (this is way over the average price of a 4/5 star hotel in the area), I felt ripped off, received horrible service, and top to it all off, when packing my bags I noticed all articles left in the nightstand had been stolen: baggage locks, receipts, cash, a pair of sunglasses and some more - nothing really valuable, but everything was stolen/emptied from the nightstands. Oh, and I was verbally kicked out by the receptionist after complaining about the bad service.

My advice to you my fellow traveler: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS HOTEL. Stay FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

Rooms don’t have Jacuzzi. It is by the pool for all the guest to use. Both Jacuzzi and pool have nice view of beach below. I remember the Jacuzzi was warm but not hot. Nights are warm but still pleasant. I went in June of 2018. I enjoyed the pool and beach more to cool off. Beach is open to the public so you will want to come back to the hotel after sundown.

How do you get to Tayrona Park from this hotel? Can you walk there? Thanks!
Answer from HungryDave1

No you cannot walk there. You have to take the boat back to the little town of Tanganga. From there you have to arrange transportation by car into the park. The hotel has a concierge that can help you book travel arrangements for you so that you can visit the park.
