The Restio Country Guesthouse is situated in the heart of the picturesque country village of Napier. Strategically placed on the Main Street, we are surrounded by the vibrant community, with restaurants and galleries all around us. The historic old building, dating back to 1896, has now been restored to its former glory…. from a tired old lady to our grand ‘Lady in Red’ of Napier who has just celebrated her 125th Birthday!

My stay at The Restio was wonderful! Maya and Jonno were the most caring and gracious hosts. I was travelling on my own, and right from the start I was greeted with warmth and hospitality and I felt safe and secure. The bedroom en suite was comfortable and tastefully decorated, and the free wi fi allowed me the opportunity to work as I needed. The breakfast included in the cost of the stay was delicious and substantial, and the bakery and coffee shop adjacent to the main house provided an array of freshly baked pastries, bagels, croissants and barista coffee daily. Thank you, Maya and Jonno. I am already planning my return visit!

This is one of the best places I've stayed at. The gentle kind welcome that the hosts gave us was a delight. The rooms are fresh, spacious and the beds are just heaven. Maya and Jonno's breakfasts are melt in your mouth muesli and freshly made breakfast to order with great coffee. Family of 4 adults felt very welcome, thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambience and location.

My husband and I had the best week at the Restio in Napier. We had the warmest of welcomes by Maya, Jonno and their lovely dog Mocca! We had an awesome breakfast everyday made by Maya. They also un a café onsite which had a wide range of tasty food and treats. Our room was spacious, immaculate and comfortable, with a view across the valley. It was the perfect location to go out on day trips from, with the southern most point of Africa (L'Agulhas), Arniston beaches and Struisbaai harbour nearby. Hermanus and De Hoop nature reserve were also within travelling distance. Would highly recommend, and will definitely visit again!

This was my second stay at "The Restio", which now has a bakery and coffee shop open as well as accomodation.

For any traveller wanting to have a "home away from home" experience, this is it! Maya and Jonno are so welcoming, enthusiastic and interested in each and every guest, you feel at home after 5 minutes! But they are not at all intrusive, and I often only saw them at mealtimes. Having 2 pet-friendly rooms was also such an added plus - no dogsitter needed in Cape Town!

We had a wonderfully restful and rejuvenating weekend at The Restio Country Guesthouse. Ideally situated on the main road through Napier, the house has recently been renovated in a most imaginitive and eyecathing fashion by Johnno and Maya Maile, the very welcoming and gracious hosts.

We stayed in Nerine, which has beautiful views over the surrouding countryside. The furniture, linen and finishings are excellent and the bed very comfortable (and big!) The room has the best shower I have ever had the pleasure to experience.

There is a comfortable well-furnished lounge just off the bedroom and the delicious breakfast was served in the large dining room adjacent to the very beautiful kitchen. Apart from the engaging and lively conversation with our hosts, we were also treated to a delicious French-styled dinner cooked by Maya - highly recommended! The beautifully restored wooden floors, ceilings and doorways throughout the house lends warmth and elegance to the interior of the house.

I can't wait to go back once the coffee shop and bakery that is currently still under construction is finished. There is a patio area under a magnificent oak tree which will be the ideal area for long relaxed visits with friends or an al fresco dinner in the summer. The grounds are being developed into a country fynbos garden and already boasts an impressive vegetable garden.

From Napier it is possible to explore the area around Arniston and De Mond Nture Reserve, which makes for a great day trip. Stanford Valley wine and cheese farms, Struisbaai and Aghulhas are also all within easy reach.

We had a wonderful stay. The hosts are so eager and warm, the room was very welcoming and clean, the breakfast was amazing. A huge portion of fruit salad, homemade croissants, great scrambled eggs. It's a shame we only stayed one night.
Thank you Maya and Jonno!

Jonno and Maya gave us and our group a very warm and friendly welcome. Beautifully appointed rooms with all the touches that one would need. A relaxing weekend, with a delicious breakfast, we opted for the additional dinner on both nights which was excellent.
The coffee shop on site provide an ideal place to enjoy freshly baked pastries and delicious coffee anytime during the day.
We highly recommend this guest house and we will be back.

Time well spent in Napier where gracious hosts Maya and Jonno welcomed us to their lovely guesthouse/home. Maya’s exquisite baking/cooking skills fill the outside coffee shop where guests and others linger for the wonderful coffee, food and conversation. Large, beautifully decorated and comfortable room with spectacular views across the valley. Excellent breakfasts and a delicious dinner in the dining room where one meets other guests for lively conversation. Time only permitted 3 night stay - we will be back for more.
