Over the years, Halfaampieskraal has become one of our favourite places. Since our first visit, we can not imagine a year without spending at least 1 night at this magical farm. Every single time, we are bowled over by the hospitality, the authenticity, the food, and the beauty of the Overberg. We love Halfaampieskraal. The people, the interiors, the honesty, the food, the small touches, the beautiful Overberg. Thank you for always making our time unforgettable.

The rooms are clean and have special touches to the interior. The entertainment area is nothing less than sumptuous and at the same time comfortable. Upon arrival in the early afternoon we sat outside on the verandah playing cards. The view from there is wide and feels like forever. The food that was served was absolutely wonderful and above the normal fare. Congratulations on this outstanding venue.

What a wonderful weekend in the picturesque Halfaampieskraal. Luxury rooms with attention to detail in everything. Friendly and relaxed hosts, Jan-Georg and Marlette spoiled us with excellent food and made us feel special. We will definitely be back.

On a picture perfect green hill, nestled between Caledon and Napier lies Halfaampieskraal.
Jan - Georg and Cobus have created the perfect getaway infused with their charm and hospitality. The rooms are decorated with superb taste and beautiful finds from around the world. Goose down from the farm geese fill the comforters on the beds. At 6 sundowners are served on the veranda followed by a sumptuous dinner by the fireplace. The first night we had mussels and tomato soup followed by a shoulder of (free-range) mouton pie. For desert almond and pear tart with ice cream. After dinner we sat around the fire enjoying wine and conversation with our hosts and newfound friends. Breakfast is served on the veranda. We had fresh eggs, bacon, corn cakes, home made yogurt and fresh milk from the farm.
During the day one can relax by the pool, cycle around on the farm or just read a book and do nothing.
This is the best place to retreat from the world and breath in farm fresh air.

From the good old fashioned farm-style food served on vintage silver and porcelain dishes with mismatched cutlery, enjoyed in a colourful flower-bursting dining-room with a cozy log fire burning and a view of the distant Overberg mountains, to the deliciously comfortable beds in bedrooms beautifully decorated with heirlooms and crisp down-filled comforters on four-poster beds draped with white netting, with heavy velvet curtains to block out the bright early morning light and thick and plush bath towels - this is a different and elegant level of luxury and attention to detail.
Halfaampieskraal is a dazzle of colourful splendor and spectacle. Each and every room in the main house was a riot of colour, unusual collections, eclectic modern displays alongside antiques. Clear assorted glass vases, vibrant paintings and faded framed photos, tiny greek statues, mini building models, antique china wall plates, oversized vases bursting with fresh (surprisingly fragranced) flowers, intricately painted walls and exotic oriental rugs all fought for my attention.
This exotic yet familiar place is like a comfortable and luxurious home away from home to unwind and do simply nothing well. It is close enough for a day trip to Cape Agulhas and Arniston. I highly recommend a stay at Halfaampieskraal to relax and unwind away from the city.

This must be the ultimate farmstay. The area is beautiful, the welcome and the hospitality warm and sincere. The rooms are stylish with comfortable beds, great bathrooms and fluffy towels. Small details like fresh flowers, beautifully decorated tables and hearty, tasty country cooked meals make Halfaampieskraal more than just a farmstay. It is an experience not to be missed. We loved every minute of our stay.

Sometimes you find a special gem and you are torn between telling everyone about it - or just keeping it to yourself! But as I'm an avid Trip Adviser I feel obliged to tell you about this sparkling diamond. Firstly, the owners - they are the best. The food- the most delicious you will ever taste anywhere. The setting - perfect. The hospitality - second to none. It definitely is the most perfect place to do absolutely nothing at all. Book well in advance to avoid disappointment!!!

With the strap line "the perfect place to do nothing at all"... This says it all. Halfaampiskraal is owned and run by a fabulous partnership. Attention to detail is second to none. Food the best in the world! Surroundings the best in the world. If you ever visit the Cape do not miss the chance of a lifetime to stay at Halfaampiskraal. You will not be sorry. It is my little piece of heaven on earth and I will be there again in February! Cannot wait to relax and unwind in my favourite place. It will get under your skin if you visit! Beware!!!

Can't thank Jan & Corbus enough for their wonderful hospitality. My brother and his wife celebrated their wedding there with family and friends from England and their wonderful South African friends. Great atmosphere, food and wine. Will definately return to this little piece of paradise!!

Halfaampieskraal is a place like nowhere else. Essentially a 'farm stay' venue, but so much more, the guesthouse is designed in every minute detail to delight your senses and fire your imagination. Situated in the beautiful and remote expanses of farmland between Napier and Bredasdorp, in a landscape of sweeping sheep grazing territory with undulating hills and high mountains in the background, the guesthouse on the farm is small and intimate, but filled with quirky curiosities, books, art and antiques of every description, inspired by such diverse influences as Afrikaner cottage, Freda Kahlo, Greek Orthodox iconography, English colonial symbolism, kitcheraria (in the ironic mode), arts and crafts frescoes, country chic and much more besides. It may not be to everyone's taste, and a minimalist's nightmare, but we loved it for our 2 night stay at R3000 per night for 2 pax, DB&B. The food is nothing short of world class, combining a daring originality with wholesome and generous portions, yet honest and completely unpretentious. Each meal was a work of art in itself: Caprese salad, mutton shanks with beaurifully accented broccoli, brussel sprouts and cougettes, followed by the lighted chocolate fondant on one evening, a meze platter, yellowtail with seafood in the most delicious cream and white wine sauce with haricots verts and blancs (the latter brought from France direct), and sweet whole baby carrots, followed by a white litchi pannacotta, on the other. Breakfasts were similarly spectacular: fruit and yoghurt, and salmon and dill omlets on one morning and a vetkoek, eggs, bacon and sausage combo the next, all of which were cooked and combined such as you have never tasted before. Excellent coffee. Beautiful and unusual flowers everywhere, several friendly dogs and cats. Above all was the engaging and delightful attention of Jan-Georg, Marlette and Karin, a truly wondetful team, adding a personal touch at every point. Not a stone left unturned or anything left to chance. The charmingly retro and spacious rooms are filled with fascinating objects and antiques, colourful lighting and textures, the bathrooms large and unfussy. No aircon (initially rather a challenge in the heat of summer), TV or telephones, and somewhat patchy wifi all make for a truly authentic, rural but unusually luxurious experience. My only criticism is that the swimming pool, much needed in the height of summer, is rather small and uncomfortable to enter and exit, being surrounded by a knee-high wall. The interior is slowly crumbling away in the water. Overall a fantastic get away. Congratulations to the whole team and thank you for a wonderful time. We'll be back.
