If you’re looking for a really different African experience spend a night here, but go there for the food. A typical working farm with great hosts and exceptional food. The main house is beautifully decorated and there are fresh flowers from the garden everywhere.
From the good old fashioned farm-style food served on vintage silver and porcelain dishes with mismatched cutlery, enjoyed in a colourful flower-bursting dining-room with a cozy log fire burning and a view of the distant Overberg mountains, to the deliciously comfortable beds in bedrooms beautifully decorated with heirlooms and crisp down-filled comforters on four-poster beds draped with white netting, with heavy velvet curtains to block out the bright early morning light and thick and plush bath towels - this is a different and elegant level of luxury and attention to detail. Halfaampieskraal is a dazzle of colourful splendor and spectacle. Each and every room in the main house was a riot of colour, unusual collections, eclectic modern displays alongside antiques. Clear assorted glass vases, vibrant paintings and faded framed photos, tiny greek statues, mini building models, antique china wall plates, oversized vases bursting with fresh (surprisingly fragranced) flowers, intricately painted walls and exotic oriental rugs all fought for my attention. This exotic yet familiar place is like a comfortable and luxurious home away from home to unwind and do simply nothing well. It is close enough for a day trip to Cape Agulhas and Arniston. I highly recommend a stay at Halfaampieskraal to relax and unwind away from the city. …
We had heard of Halfaampieskraal and were curious to see what it was all about. We were delighted beyond our expectations! The surrounding environment and the farm itself are very beautiful, the house is wonderfully quirky as is the accommodation in the Greek Room. The food is fantastic - one would be in danger of never leaving as you would not want to get up and go anywhere after the great evening and breakfast meals. We will be returning as soon as we find the right opportunity (and can secure a booking!).
I'm a lifestyle journalist and part of what I cover is travel and therefore when I treat myself to a holiday, I'm fussy. Basically Halfaampieskraal is worth EVERY cent spent. The food is delicious (so beautifully thought out without being over the top and complicated), the decor is beyond wonderful and the hospitality just charming. We relaxed and enjoyed ourselves totally and utterly. Halfaampieskraal is one of those places I KNOW I'll make a yearly pilgrimage to. It's incredibly special.
Every expectation exceeded. What a MAGICAL find. Can highly recommend this incredible oasis. The hospitality and food indulgence is 5star. We booked an extra lunch (R150) it was a stunning Greek platter. The dinner was a gastronomic feast. The honesty bar is really well priced with great selection. The service is so attentive and caring. Can’t wait to go back to Halfaampieskraal!
