Ponta Beach Camps is an affordable, family beach resort directly on the main Beach of the quaint little seaside village of Ponta do Ouro, Southern Mozambique. Ponta do Ouro is the most Southerly Mozambican town, situated just 4 kms (as the Seagull flies) from the Kosi Bay border with South Africa. For those that don’t have 4 x 4 vehicles, cars can be left at the secure parking area at the Border, and transfers to the resort arranged Our emphasis is on Affordability and Informality – obviously without compromising Service & Quality. Ponta Beach Camps are essentially 3 separate camps and a small private campsite: • Ponta Beach Camps – Beach Front Camp • Ponta Beach Camps – Main Camp • Ponta Beach Camps – Private Campsites Beach Front Camp: - en-suite Beachfront Units These units are situated just 10m back from the main beach at Ponta do Ouro. Each unit has a large glass sliding door which opens out onto a wooden deck overlooking the sea. In most units this amazing view is also possible from your bed. The deck has a small table with 2 attached benches on either side The units are spacious, well ventilated, and are designed so that they remain cool and airy despite the tropical Mozambican heat. They are equipped with a Queen Bed, and 2 pillows. By prior arrangement, and subject to availability, this can be substituted by 2 single beds. All beds are fitted with mattress and pillow protectors. They all have a fitted Bottom Sheet, Top Sheet, and light Duvet. Bed throws are also folded on the bottom of each bed NB: During the Winter months – an extra blanket or duvet may be required. Please take your own, or request another duvet from reception The en-suite bathroom consists of a private, semi open air shower (hot and cold water) with washbasin, and toilet. No toiletries or towels are supplied. Take your own towel, soap, shampoo, etc. Each unit is equipped with a fan, mosquito net, a small shelf cupboard, bedside table, bedside lamp, and plug point (3 pin SA plug). There is also a room ceiling light and outside deck light. Plug points have limited capacity; are for charging cell phones and hair dryers only. Fridges and portable fridges are not allowed in the rooms. Plug points can be hired in the main dining area should you wish to plug in your own fridge/freezer. There are ample towel and clothes rails, and a small cupboard. Ponta Beach Camps: Main Camp This is a fairly large camp, set back a little from the beach, under the coastal dune trees. There are essential two types of accommodation options available in this camp: • Barracas – which are traditional, reed constructed “Mozambique style” rooms, and • Safari Tents – which are the smaller, classic safari tents. Main Camp – Private Camp sites (AND ADJACENT PUBLIC Camp Sites) The Main Camp has a very small campsite (3 only) enclosed by a security fence. At night the area is patrolled by our security guards. The sites are approximately 5m x 5m in area, and covered with a shade cloth gazebo Each site has a plug point, and outside overhead light. Maximum persons occupying each site is limited to 4. Additional persons are required to pay the per person supplement. Bigger tents, trailers, extra tents may be required to pay additional charges. Please confirm camp equipment when booking. The campsite area is accessible to off road caravans Guests using these campsites can make use of all the Main Camp facilities – e.g. ablutions, kitchen facilities, fridge hire, freezers, etc. (See Ponta Beach Camps – Main Camp) We are also have much larger, and a far bigger adjacent campsite that we book. This includes Beach front sites, right on the beach. However the ablution facilities there are currently not up to standard

December 2021 with Covit 19 have seen all the beaches been closed. This led to lots of cancelations and we end up being upgraded to the Beach Front Camp on-suite Beachfront Units. There we were able to be right next to the beach that was not crowded, not even over Christmas or New Year. Of the 4 units 2 did not had warm water, 1 was fixed later. The rooms were cleaned every day. We were there during a tropical storm and the units did rain in after a lot of hard rain and wind. We did took a lot of our own camping gear including stove, pots, pans, freezer, ext. Will next time also include braaier and Ice maker. So over all very basic clean and affordable. The rest of the comments will be about Ponta do Ouro and Mozambique.

We had decided to tour this island for our crossover to 2020. To be honest we didn't pay much attention to the hospitality of this beach camp. Mosquitoes are not that vicious around there..you can survive with a can of insect repellent.. But I must say it was fairly clean regarding that this is Mozambique! We were hardly in the camp because we had gone there celebrate the Crossover. Overall this Island is a must visit with its breathtaking white sand beach and the calm ocean waves!

Different accommodation options to choose from - we stayed in the barracas which was good value for money, and easy access to the beach for divers and partners alike. The vibe in the dive camp bar/restaurant (Barraca do Ponta) is great - with divers sharing their stories & people of all ages having a good time. In easy walking distance to the Beach Bar, other great restaurants, bars, curios and the dolphin centre. Loved staying here!!!!

This is the best position of a camp in Africa right on the beach. However our last visit as it has the worst ablution facility in Africa. Hardly any hot water and having to stand in pee with filthy bathrooms.

Ponta beach camp is located on the best place in Ponta de Ouro. The beach front tents area is beter. The entire place seems to be getting some needed tlc. Staff are friendly booze is cheap and food is of good quality for Mozam. Don’t bother bringing your own food. There are loads of restaurants and options. Cons were the trackor next to out glamping tents 06:00 in the mornings. Almost sufficated from the smoke. The Noise from the local beach bar up to 02:00 is annoying if you are not there. All in all best value for money though! I’ll be back

Nice welcoming, they make you feel home, you have a vast variety of accommodation choices, from front beach rooms to tents or even barracks, just two steps from the beach, you can get in whatever time you winch. If you are a diver, then is the best place to be, you get a price off for accommodation and make your diving sessions straight forward with well trained personnel.

My family and I have never dived Ponta and only enjoyed the pearls of Inhambane in the past. This was dead easy! The Kozi Bay border post was a breeze, the drive in a little hairy but well worth the experience. We stayed in the beach facing rooms with shower/toilet and whilst a bit noisy from the parties on the beach it was perfect.

The vibe of Mozambique is still authentic although due to how close it is to South Africa, prices were a bit higher than up north.

The diving was great and the trip relaxing so we’ll definitely be back.

An excellent option for campers as you are right on the beach to enjoy all the activities Ponta du Ouro has to offer.

Ablutions are a little dodgy, but acceptable. I never had a hot shower but since the weather is warm it's not too serious.

We loved having the beach dogs in camp. They bond with the campers and we had a few sleep next to the tent every night. They are fed and watered by The Whaler and are inoculated against rabies. An asset to the Camp rather than a nuisance.

Vendors can be a bit pushy, so be careful before encouraging them.

We had someone agree to do our laundry and then he brought it back to us, still wet and stuffed into a bag. He still expected full pay. In situations like this, just keep pleasant but don't feel bullied. Make sure you know exactly what you are paying for before hand.

We recently stayed in the capsite during fishing comp.
Only to find out the reason why we are the only campers in the camp.

The security is a big issue as our fishing rods and reels were stolen while at meeting.
No water ar basens to even wash dishes.
Stray dogs all over the camp barking and keeping you from sleep.

The ablutions are realy of poor quality/not to mention the hot water issue
almost or most of the times without hot water or any water at all.

The traffic through the camp during day and night also a issue as no controll of who may enter the camp an who not.

Will I ever ga back...?
No

Rather spend your money elsewhere.
