Just over R500 per person per night was an absolute rip off. The room we were in (128) is disgusting. Felt dirty when I entered and could not wait to leave. The cupboards were a joke. Cheap is the only word that comes to mind when entering this establishment. If you like backpacker accommodation you may find this acceptable but be prepared to pay a premium. Only good thing I can say is that the staff are very friendly, but that only goes so far.

On the upside, the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast - included in the rate - was substantial and well presented, a nice variety on offer. The visiting rat in my sons room was quickly barred from re entry by the swift addition of a new piece of skirting board. I hope he enjoyed his breakfast of chocolates and biltong! The numerous visiting 'beach dogs' are delightful, friendly and very polite, but if you do not like dogs.........??
The location is perfect, but the unfortunate downside is... the premises need a huge rethink and the rubbish on the route to the beach is a hazard - do NOT go barefoot!
The 'wonderful sea view' is blocked by the 'deck'. The rat problem seemed to be being approached in an extremely un eco friendly way by the use of poison - posing a danger to cats, dogs and wildlife. The whole place is run down and although a sort of upgrade appears to be under way the finish is poorly executed - new tiles in the bathroom, new paint, but a horrible grimy line where paint meets tiles. No drain cover in the shower - just a clogged hole, no ventilation at all in the bathroom - which is right beside the bed, sink taps which are loose and very hard to turn off, the bathroom door badly fitted so that it cannot be closed and so on. No windows at all - very claustrophobic when lying in bed, and no way at all of ventilating the whole room except to have the sliding doors open, a security risk, or to have the aircon running all the time. New carpet, but the floor under the carpet is very uneven - a feeling of being drunk when walking across the room, 'fitted' cupboards old and broken - no doors on them. Not one comfortable chair in the whole place. Lovely rattan soffas and chairs in the 'deck' but no cushions so they are hard and very scratchy. The fire risk is enormous and many of the rooms have only one possible way to exit- no fire escape route at all for the rooms to one side of the central staircase, and the door from the room to the rear balcony has been blocked by the bunk beds.. The 'mosquito nets' are a joke - a piece of gauze which divides the bed area from the 'lounge' area, with a gap between gauze and ceiling. We did not meet the 'owner' - a pity, we would have had plenty to talk about!
All in all, not a particularly nice experience, we spent a damp afternoon exploring alternatives for our next visit.

Thank you for your detailed comments we appreciate the feedback and take your comments serious - As for the Beach Dogs we really don't have control over these dogs and do chase the out of the Deck and Restaurant area - though Guest often invite them in. The Rooms are non self catering for the very reason hat it attract rodents. This please refrain from bringing food into the rooms. Please remember that we are surrounded by natural bush and monkeys ect live in these busy areas. The Cupboards we are replacing - I am sure you enjoyed our all new 5 star mattresses - Clean Facilities ect. We are Budget Accommodation an well Priced - If you prefer 5 star accommodation then the Price of a five star resort is + R 3500 per night per person. Regards Johan

The staff at this hotel was the only good thing about it - super nice. It is not a resort. It is on the beach so the location is excellent, but the hotel itself is very disappointing. There are much nicer places nearby. We were at Paraiso do Ouro "Resort" for three nights. We ended up using the pool at the hotel next door because it was much nicer and much more comfortable. The way that this hotel is laid out does not make sense at all. The place felt rickety and in case of fire we would have been burnt toast - the fire exit of our rooms were blocked by bunk beds. The mattresses were terrible. I don't know if they were super old or just super cheap, but we could feel every spring on our backs... totally not comfortable. We had to ask for new sheets because the first set had stains (ew, gross and rips). I didn't want to walk on the floor barefoot, because it felt dirty. Everything about the place seemed cheap and uncomfortable. I would definitely not stay here again.

We started our traveling 04:00 am on the same day that we were due for arrival at the PARAISO "resort" when we got a ph call from Johan at about 1530pm that he has double booked us and we cannot spend our first night there, he arranged rubbish alternative accomodation on the SA side of the border.....We booked at Paraiso do Ouro Resort, PREPAID and arrived the next day to find very dirty accommodation 2 of 3 aircons not working, cockroaches everywhere, infested with bats, their dropings and pee fiiltering through the ceilings and smelling awfull, tv not working and the fridge not cold enough. No refund or discount but extra breakfast offered???? Never ever again, this place is a joke and a health hazzard, will not stay there even if offered for free!!!!

The only good thing I have to say about this place is that it has a prime location on the beach with a seaview. Otherwise, the room in which we stayed was in a shocking state when we arrived. The bathroom door did not close, the toilet seat was broken, the shower did not drain properly, taps did not fully close, and bedside lamp was not working. The aircon was also not working upon our arrival and was only repaired 4 days into our stay. The floors were slanted resulting in the double bunk beds leaning at an angle which meant I had to sleep on an incline. The wooden floors were terrible noisy at night and the entire structure felt very unstable. The cupboards they provide have no doors either, nor any hooks or shelves to hang towels etc. There is a terrible smell every morning from them opening the manhole to pump sewage out. The wifi hotspot hardly ever worked. Also, the restaurant food is terrible; particularly the pizzas. This resort did not deliver the standards and quality of accommodation for the amount of money we paid. I would not recommend this place.

We were fetched from the border and had a nice 4x4 ride in the sand with. The driver was very friendly and gave us brief hsitory. When we arrived at the resort, the room we were allocated had a broken wardrobe, non working toilet a far cry from what the pictures portrayed. The room was just not fit for the money paid. We requested to be changed and were then allocated a self catering chalet (seperate from the main resort) which was waaaay better and comfortable. The resort is located right on the beach front. The staff there is very friendly and really do make the customer feel like a Queen. Their pizza is a must eat when there, and the Chuck Noris samoosa really has a chilli kick (make sure you have R&R on hand). The staff went our of their way. All compliments must go to Alice, Freddrico (barman), Salamina, Freda, AnaBela, BelaAnna for their wonderful hospitality.

•That cottage is infested with gigantic cockroaches. Not even the doom we asked for was sufficient to rid of the infestation.
•There is a congregation of rats that live in the roof that could be heard most evenings and early mornings.
•We were visited by a mouse that left several droppings as proof.
•The remotes for the aircons were not in the cottage so your night manager had to provide us with remotes.
•The aircon in the second bedroom was not working, the cupboards in that bedroom had a stench that was so incredibly offensive.
•One of the bedroom pillowcases had the remnants of a cockroach leg, wing.
•The shower is layered with filth and algae that seems to never have been scrubbed down. When we asked the cleaning ladies to scrub the shower they professed to not have a brush to scrub it with.
•The front door lock left little to the imagination when it came to security whilst you had workers drilling and hammering every single morning starting at 7. Thinking that our Sunday morning ( a day of rest) would be a peaceful experience, what followed was a rude awakening of the sound of thumping and drilling.
• The sliding door from the lounge area was unable to latch which is a security hazard.

We stayed there at the end of September. We had a very nice room what was separated from the main building.

Service good.

The breakfast very good

Sometimes I saw some people sitting chatting on the pathway to the rooms with cooler boxes.

The service of Paraiso was excellent. They do their best to accommodate us whit their better units. The rooms must have a make over. Please take out the carpets and please replace the beds. The room smell terrible and the overall look of the room is totally disappointed. My honest opinion is that if I have to stay in that rooms again I will go to Coco Rico next door. We was so disappointed that we want to left straight away.
