Unlike other reviewers, very disappointed with Paraiso.

At the outset, I will say that it does cater very well for a section of the travelling public. So, if you are on a very tight budget, enjoy '80's music played at high volume from morning till night (or even on one occasion, competing music blaring from a bakkie all evening whilst some guests took advantage of the braai area), paper thin walls, shoddy rooms (see pictures), rudimentary plumbing and loud quad bikes being driven around all evening - this is the place for you!

The website boasts ocean views from all rooms - technically correct unless you happen to be in corner rooms in which case, only by standing at the door and straining to see over the bar area. And before any criticism arrives, yes - I have stayed in a number of other places in Ponta and the surrounding area and have even made allowance for 'Africa'. In the end, I checked out early to find some RnR of the non-alcoholic kind.

On the positive side, the staff were very helpful and always smiling - even when faced with infrastructure problems not of their own making.

In summary, for a particular clientele, this will suit well - just don't be taken in by everything the website promises.

We were very pleased with the stay and will definitely recommend it to other individuals. The parking was a bit of an issue and there were not always enough space. The staff were friendly and housekeeping was good.Breakfast was great and definitely a highlight every morning. The view was amazing. We were happy with our rooms and couldn't expect more.We will visit Paraiso do Ouro Resort again should the opportunity arise.

The accommodation was extremely run down, not budget as was portrayed on the website. We were a family of 6, with 3 double rooms on the first floor. On all the days either the tv or the air conditioner did not work, although the staff was always willing and helpful to fix it, the problem persisted throughout our stay, which was 10 days. The bedding was not very clean and needed replacement as it was torn as well. The breakfast was very basic and oily, with no proper healthy options. The restaurant menu was also basic and the food was low quality and therefore very expensive, taking into consideration the quality. The location is the only good thing about this property and we will not recommend this "resort" to anybody! I suggest the owners consider an upgrade of the accommodation.

We were 5 couples visiting the resort, the booking was placed online as the resort promised a magical experience but was not a true reflection of the resort itself. Paraiso do Oura arranged for the transport to collect us at the Kosi Bay (KZN) Border Post and this is where the alarm bells started ringing. The cars used for collection were old and dilapidated. Upon checking in we were rather dismayed, the rooms were old and smelly, toilets did not work and doors did not lock and had no toilet paper as well as the television, some kettles worked others didnt, mugs and spoons as promised were not included in all the rooms. The food at the resort was overprice R60 for 4 tiny soggy oil soaked fish cakes. We discovered at the resort R1 bought 4 metical whereas in the rest of the town 4.5. While Mozambique is beautiful and the locals friendly and helpful, most of the businesses and resorts seem to be owned by a small group of South African's with their 4x4's living in luxury seaside villa's - we will definitely not visit Paraiso do Oura in a hurry again!

I enjoyed the whole setting, it was a different type of living, but the fact that i could ride a quad bike to my door with my grandparents each on their own bike is priceless, its a good sleep for holiday

This is a large resort right on the beach. The facilities are very basic and rustic and the rooms are small and sparsely furnished. We were on the 2nd floor and the stairs are very steep and difficult to manage. The bar and restaurant area is huge with good service and good food. Parking is limited and the roads very sandy. Very convenient location.

The trip through the Lebombo border was a nightmare with 8hour delay and super unfriendly officials. Once through the border, the roads were tarred all the way. Only the last 2km needed some driving expertise through thick sand. Once there we were met with lovely Island vibes, excellent service and spectacular views. Felt very safe and welcome. Rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Will definitely recommend it to anyone.

Only positive is the really great pizza! Can only be described as a youth hostel not a hotel. The hostel is a wooden rickety structure with 25 rooms on each floor! We had the unpleasant experience of staying on the first floor. That meant hearing every single foot step above you amplified by the floor boards and wooden walk ways! I can not stress enough how you will be annoyed by the constant banging, screeching and footsteps it never ends! The room has an aircon and a TV with 4 channels, that's where the luxury ends! Plastic cheap leaking shower, broken tap in basin and the most basic table/cupboard constructed from plywood with a plastic chair........ list goes on. If you paid 500 meticals for the room it would be acceptable but that is not the case! Do your research there are far better and cheaper places available, we found out the hard way!

Regards
Never Ever going back!

Thank you for your review - We take note of your comments - We are priced very competitive - We are budget accommodation and one of the most affordable accommodation in Ponta - The Showers is not plastic but has Fiberglass Showers trays - The resort is rustic but all is functional and clean. Next time please just report a tap that is not functional - I assure you every room is inspected before your arrival and this if something brakes during your stay we have a maintenance team every day from 8h00 till 17h00 that will gladly repair it asap when reported. We accept we can not be all to every one and if you would like to stay in a five star resort please book at White Pearl Resort where you pay 1000's of Metical's per night. Seriously we do our best for every customer and have over 158000 likes on facebook and many happy returning customers that appreciate the value for money and our sincere efforts - Regards Johan

You can only feel sorry for the great staff at Paraiso because they are the only positive of this falsely advertised hotel. Go there is you want running toilet , taps that don't close & no hot water 6 out of our 7 night stay. Food is very average at an above average price tag. Drinks are the most expensive out of all the bars we visited. The rooms are dark with no windows . If you are thinking of booking Ponta think again , it has crime no one will admit to . If the 20 year bed warranty is your claim to fame well cant say too much about that either.

Hi Janet Thank you for your review - I am really sorry you feel this way as we really try our best for everyone of our guests that visit us and we have many happy returns - You are correct we had a problem with one of the Geysers though we have offered every one that was affected (3 Rooms) to be moved into another room until we could get it replaced - This was done asap already. I assure you that we price our menu items and drinks very reasonable and also take into account that we do pay huge import taxes on all alcohol items that are imported - I also assure you that we sent all our menu's and drink prices to everyone that book with us beforehand - and as a matter of fact our drinks are even more affordable that most of the Resorts in SA. Every Room have a 2.1 meter Sliding door that opens. There is also a Ceiling Light in every room and bed lights. As for crime in Ponta do Ouro - Yes we do have some petty crime though nothing compared with the Violent Crime you experience every day in SA. Regards Johan

Although it was only my husband and I that visited this resort, I can recommend it to any family that wants a plain and simple holiday. We spent only 5 days here, but will really in future love to go back and even take our children and grandchildren along. clear communication was given with regards to leaving our car at the border post, pick-up arrangements, and bringing along own coffee, tea, milk and sugar. We bought our dinner on the premises from the restaurant and it was great. Overall, clean, neat, simple and most enjoyable with a relaxed atmosphere and the hosts were very friendly. We are used to going to expensive hotels and resorts, but this one was real value for money. No fancy dress up, make up, hair do's for the ladies!
