DEVOCEAN Lodge in the village of Ponta do Ouro, is located right in the middle of everything and just a 4 minute walk from the Indian Ocean. The bus stop to and from Maputo is just around the corner and the place is accessible by regular car and motorbike all year round. The excellent Wifi is provided free of charge. The beaches are pristine and offer mostly a perfect spot to enjoy the sun and dip the tropical water. There's a dive, seafari and deepsea fishing center nearby, as well as a research center for wild dolphins, whales and turtles where you can join an early morning ocean ride, in search of abundant sea life. There's an art & craft market, the old 'barracas', a wide choice of restaurants, snack shacks and pubs with 'Fernando's' cradle of the famous R&R as a well-known, but potentially dangerous refresher. The 'Comfort Tents', the 'Classic Cottage' and the 'Thatched Chalet' have private bathrooms and patios. The Standard Tents share showers and toilets in two separate buildings. One for the 'Ladies' and another for the 'Gents'. There's a central Lapa with coffee and tea facilities. A fridge offers a considerable choice of cool drinks, beers, ciders and spirits based on the principle of 'honesty' bar. The garden is lush and tropical and huge Indian Almond trees provide for the necessary shade. An excellent rated breakfast is available every morning. A dinner service is available for the guests who go for 'fine cuisine'. Delicious 3 course meals are served every night at 7. The accommodation offers one free secure parking spot per unit. Extra street side parking spots are available if more is needed. Highlights of the village are 'Swimming with Dolphins. Scuba Diving. Quad Bike Rentals. Deep Sea Fishing Charters. A Lighthouse Walk and a Ponta Malongane Hike.

From the day you walk in to the day you leave, Sean, who is the owner, makes you feel welcome. A lovely tented camp, some with ensuite bathrooms, are very well equipped with everything you need. The rooms are serviced daily and the staff are friendly. Every morning you have a choice of 4 meals for breakfast, which was included in our rate. It is a great way to start the day. The restaurant also has a wide variety on the menu for dinners but trust me, try the prawns, best I have ever had. The camp also has a small "trust' bar, write down what you take and pay at the end of your stay. The location makes it ideal to visit the world famous Fernando's bar and also to explore the rest of Ponta. The beach is 5 minute walk away with very calm and warm ocean. Rent a quad bike and take a ride to Ponta de Malongane, you will find some interesting bars and restaurants along the way.

I have stayed at various other places in the area and for the price, comfort and value for money, you will not be dissapointed.

Remember, there is now a tarred road that runs all the way into Ponta do Ouro so the resort it is easily accessible from Maputo or Kosibay.

5* rating from me, looking forward to my next trip

Devocean is a very nice place to stay, the garden is wonderful and Sean is a very helpful and welcoming owner. The included breakfast is amazing, you can also have it as a lunch when you're diving in the morning and can't make it to the regular times. WiFi is also very good in speed, sufficient enough to work remotely.

DevOcean, Sean and the team were fantastic. Tucked just far enough away from the beach to leave the thumping nonstop music behind but close enough to pop over with your morning coffee, the location is exactly what you need and want. The peaceful garden setting is beautiful and the daily breakfast the perfect way to get your day started. Sean will help you figure out how to spend your time whether it is a hike around the area or a dive under the seas.
My room was spacious yet cozy with all of the comforts wanted. Highly recommend for your stay in the area!

My second time staying at Devocean and it was better than the first. Sean, the proprietor, has created a little oasis of greenery around which are both permanent and tented rooms. It's always calming to relax here after a morning's diving. Everything is clean and well maintained, Sean is an attentive host and the breakfasts (served until early afternoon) are tasty. It is also convenient for most of the dive schools and restaurants, whilst being away from the center of town. I definitely intend to stay there again on my next trip to Ponta do Ouro.

I'm very grateful for your excellent review Andrew. It has a lot of value since you stayed for more than two weeks. Whenever things become tense in the North, remember the place here in the deep South, where you will be welcomed to relax any time enthusiastically.

I decided to go to Ponta do Ouro by myself, for a couple of days, to make a break from Maputo. The communication and support was very good even before making the reservation, as I needed to know how to get to Ponta do Ouro by local transportation.
The place is very nice, the interior garden and trees give a feeling of open nature, it's very beautiful and cozy.
I stayed in a tent adjacent to a private bathroom and hot shower, quite comfortable and clean. The tent as a little kind of balcony with a chair, that is great to relax.
The breakfast has different options made at the moment, fresh and tasty. I didn't have any other meal there as I took the opportunity to go to restaurants ouside. There is always available cold and hot water and you can make yourself coffee/tee during your stay.
It's walking distance from the beach, most restaurants and commerce. And it is safe to walk during the day and night. I recommend for solo female travellers.
I also think it must be a great place to do remote online work, as its quiet and the internet is good.
Staff and owners are very friendly and helpful!
I hope to have the opportunity to stay there again with my family, but next time I would like to stay in a cottage or chalet ;)

What an awesome description. Thank you so much for the effort. Hugely appreciated. And of course, you're welcome in our chalet or cottage as much as in the comfort tent. You'll be more on your own, instead of natures touch in tiny tree frogs (when there's rain) or the early morning birds. A choice for every preference. Well almost.

We stayed as a 6 person group in 3 cosy tents.

Very friendly staff, great breakfast and coffee (actual coffee, not instant).

The owner Shaun always had a tip on where to eat, what hikes to go for, who to call for setting up a scuba dive and and when the sun would shiw up (we had heavy rainfall in the beginning of our stay).

The accomodation has a parking lot.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Devocean, a real gem. The owner was great fun and had many great ideas and tips that made our stay in Ponta do Ouro really special. Namely the swimming with dolphins and amazing deserted beach walks. His staff were super friendly and attentive, the food was delicious! Our chalet was perfect, it had everything we needed.

A really relaxed atmosphere at the lodge, just what you want on a cheeky holiday in beautiful Mozambique!

Thanks to Sean and the team (and little Lennon of course)

What a lovely place in the heart of Ponta do Ouro. Sure it's not beachfront but it is a little oasis in the heart of the town, only minutes walk to beach and restaurants. Owner Sean is a great host. The safari style tent accomodation was spacious and comfortable and the included breakfast (several options to choose from) was delicious. Highly recommend!!

This is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have yet had on the continent. Certainly the best so far in Mozambique. Sean is an excellent post in the property is extremely well kept. Accommodations are very comfortable, and the food is extremely high quality. I highly recommend trying the eggs Benedict for breakfast, which is included with your accommodation.

My third time staying at Devocean and it continues to improve. The accommodation is clean, well maintained and charming, being set in a verdant garden area full of interesting bird life. However, since last year they have added evening meals to the mix. The choices are limited but everything I had was tasty, well prepared and inexpensive.

Sean, who runs Devocean is exceptionally helpful and does everything possible to make your stay comfortable.

Thank you very much Andrew for taking the effort to crawl into your pen and say the kindest words. You are definitely our most loyal guest. My sincere compliments for holding out with us over all these years. Including times of 'corona comes, corona goes'. Meanwhiel I've noticed you probably forgot your dive shoes. Looking at it from the bright sight, you've got already a valid reason for your next visit. We'll take good care of them. Promise! All the best during the 'no bubbles blowing' season. For now, I'm grateful to know that you've made it back in good order.
