Beachfront, self-catering accomodation, right next to the Beach Bar. We had a braai in front of our unit where we made our dinner and watched the sunset from the outdoor furniture, and the sunrise in the mornings. The units are not luxury but are extremely well priced and are spacious, clean, functional and had all the necessary amenities, including air conditioners in the bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and bedding. We enjoyed our stay here immensely.

A good quality hotel with a good restaurant and nice pool just behind the beach. Short walking distance to what ever you need to do in Ponta. Good wifi and clean rooms. A small fridge also in rooms. Good beds. Our room (E2) had a small veranda outside.
Very helpful and friendly staff. A good a la carte selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Damn! You did quite the upgrade since my last visit. Good on you Victor! Would happily bring my family for a couple of weeks! Got a new employer now though... so privately it's a bit much to vacay in Mozambique from Sweden... /Daniel, Lejonresor

We were a group of 8 friends who made a road trip to Ponta Do Ouro, departing from Johannesburg in two vehicles. One of these vehicles was a 2x4 "bakkie" or "pickup" which got stuck many times in soft sand. Accordingly, a 4x4 is highly recommended if you are not taking the passenger service from the Cozy-bay border.

Kaya Kweru itself is, for the most part, a backpacker-type establishment. Prices were very reasonable at approximately R2500 per person for 7 nights in peak season. Included in this price for every morning was a choice of modest breakfasts. Although these were generally of average quality, the first day's breakfast was dubious. Kaya Kweru offers several activities, although we chose to rather arrange our own activities with third parties, all of which were incredibly enjoyable (these included scuba diving, quad-biking and dolphin cruising). The absolutely prestine Ponta Do Ouran beach is under 100 meters away.

Our group of 8 friends shared 2 units, that is, 4 per unit. Each unit has an entrance room (used as a bedroom with 2 single beds, supplied with linen) with two doors, one to the unit’s own bathroom and another to a bedroom (also with 2 single beds, also supplied with linen). The proprietors in their questionable wisdom, having learnt that among our group of 8 friends there were 2 couples, replaced the 2 single beds in the “entrance rooms” with double beds. The awkward situation followed where the couples necessarily had to use the open “entrance room” double beds with the singles getting the private bedrooms. As would be expected, couples tend to retreat to their bedrooms earlier than singles and were constantly awoken (or interrupted :-)) by the singles having to move through the “entrance rooms” to get to and from the bedrooms. In addition, only the “entrance rooms” have air-conditioning. The bedrooms each have a roof fan.

The units were clean and a cleaning service visits each unit every day.

The bathrooms are well-equipped, including towels and hot showers. The toilet in our unit started leaking one evening. I informed the proprietor immediately who said that she would attend to it. After an hour nothing had been done yet and I was forced to return to her (where she was still relaxing on the veranda), explaining that the bedrooms were being flooded. I was met with much hostility and the proprietor reluctantly stormed off to fix the toilet, shouting “I don’t have time for this”.

Beware if you plan on taking food and drinks with as the units do not have any refrigeration or kitchen facilities. Ice is sold at Kaya Kweru at R25 per bag (at time of writing). Further, Kaya Kweru charges high “corkage” fees on any alcohol you bring with to the communal area (such as the pool area). You have the option of buying alcohol at Kaya Kweru’s bar at R20 for a local beer or R30 and up for a South African beer (in comparison to the average South African price of R15 for the same beer). Although Kaya Kweru’s alcohol and food prices are high on South African standards, they are normal on Ponta Do Ouran standards, thus necessitating food and drinks being brought with from South Africa. I found some of the bar and restaurant staff friendly but Kaya Kweru scores low on service ratings, mostly due to the proprietor's attitude.

Despite any pictures that may give a contrary impression on the website, Kaya Kweru has no ocean view. I presume, from looking at the pictures on their website, that the ocean is visible from the roof patio, but same was boomed off at the time of our visit and guests were not allowed entrance.

Kaya Kweru operates a nightclub which plays loud music until the early hours of the morning (which is great if you want to party but not so great if you are attempting to retire after a day's scuba diving). The volume of the music it plays at the nightclub, however, pales in comparison to the loudness of it’s inebriated patrons.

Despite the aforegoing, all-in-all, Kaya Kweru is an average accommodation for an average-to-good price. Ponta Do Ouro itself is an absolutely exquisite holiday destination which I intend visiting regularly in future, although I will not be staying in Kaya Kweru again.

We arrived at Ponto on Friday 22042016 at 3pm when we reached our initial accommodation we realised it was pathetic so we went to Coco Rico who was fully booked but the awesome female manager assisted us by contacting Kaya Kweru rates where very affordable for the 10 family members. ..staff super friendly and very accommodating...rooms super neat and tidy ...rooms cleaned everyday ...access to the pool and braai area at any time...we even bought our own prawns and they prepared it for us...very child friendly and safe and secure parking...also a minute walk to the beach...I will recommend this 5 star accommodation to any1 visiting ponto ...u won't make a mistake staying there...

I spent in Kaya Kweru two nights, during a quick visit in Ponta do Ouro for diving. It was indicated and booked for me by the diving centre nearby. It is a good place, conveniently located and clean. Nice little swimming pool and restaurant.

We checked into Kaya Kweru on the 2nd of March to stay for the weekend. While we were there, a situation arose which necessitated that we leave on the 4th as opposed to the 5th of the same month. We called the manager to inform him of the situation and he readily agreed to this and promised a refund of the forfeited day within 7 weeks.

Till this day that promise has not been fulfilled and each time we call the manager a new 7 day waiting period is promised with no clear follow up or explanations of why this has not been processed.

We were a group of 6 friends that stayed for 2 nights. The accommodation is simple, but clean and exactly what we needed. Nothing fancy but it does the job. Breakfast was good and we had dinner one night which was very well priced compared to other restaurants in the area.

Kaya Kweru is a 5 min walk from the beach and you can get to most other places in Ponta walking from Kaya Kweru. There is a nice relaxing area with swimming pool at Kaya Kweru and a well stocked and reasonably priced bar.

The staff was really friendly and helpful. We will stay here again.
