Gamboozini isn’t a luxurious 5 star resort but it has great comfort, cleanliness, tranquility & delicious food: all that you need to relax. We booked the Lux bungalow & it was ideal. When we arrived there, Mica & Artur stole our hearts with their humility. Mica & Artur went out of their way to make delicious breakfasts & dinners as per our request. They were so pleasant & so willing to makes our stay pleasant.
We were surrounded by greenery & mountains. The morning air was crisp. In all honesty, I booked there to ‘rough it out’ & my husband was not happy when we arrived. BUT, within minutes, he was sold on staying there. Both of us left happy with our short stay. It was a life fulfilling experience. While we could be amidst the local people, a short drive took us down to the beautiful & clean beach. This resort is ideally situated, close to nature & peace but also within a short distance to the busy beach, where you can rent a gazebo & chairs to relax.
This short break was memorable with a big ‘Thank You’ to Mica & Artur.

Fantastic little lodge, perfectly nestled behind the mountains, just 6 minutes walk from the beach in either direction.
Located 6 minutes walk from the most Southern Bar in Mozambique, right on a secluded beachfront.
The King room was spectacularly clean and features a plethora of utilities, including WIFI for digital nomad lovers such as ourselves.
The scenic views from the room are utterly breathtaking as if you are located right in the middle of a rain forest, only to be overwhelmed by the sound of the ocean.
The staff is a 100 out of 10. Warm, welcoming, and extremely helpful in every area.
The owners are always available through communication and willing to provide assistance in any way shape and form.
Overall, the experience is one of a kind. Gamboozini is truly an oasis beautifully located and accessible to everyone with any sort of vehicle.
Perfect for couples, great for family, super fun for groups of any size.

I had the most wonderful welcome from Mark the owner, his wife, Mika and Angie who work at the lodge. They were friendly, hospitable and couldn't do enough for me. The room was clean and comfortable. I could hear the sea which is a very comfortable 5 minute walk from Gamboozini. I felt like part of the family after a few days. The food was good and Mika and Angie were always available to help me and serve me. Loved it and I will be back. Enzo too, the manager, such an intersting character.

3 Friends and I booked at the lodge based on the many excellent reviews received in tripadvisor and came away from the trip wondering if the owners had posted these. This lodge is not a 5min walk to the beach (its in fact on the wrong side of the hill near ponte), is not clean (rooms were barely made up when we arrived and never during our 3 night stay), service was poor (took a while to figure out how and where to check in and receive our keys, lack of water in 1 of the 2 rooms was not fixed despite repeated requests) and noisy (loud water lump that went of throughout the night). The silver lining was the bar area where we interacted with other guests but this hardly made up for the poor overall experience in other areas. Will never stay here again and would not recommend it to any friends or family.

As the owner, and as I mentioned to the others in your group, your experience, as you can see from the other reviews, that are all from people like yourself, who have stayed at our lodge, that something must have gone terribly wrong. And I thank you for your honest review. Your experience at the lodge was unacceptable and for this I apologize. I am away for 3 months and we have a new manager and had temporary cleaning staff on your weekend. This is still not acceptable and I understand how you must be upset. Rest assured the staff have already been made aware of your review. Thank you.

I will caveat my review by saying that the owner was not there, the weather was not great (very damp) and the gas was out while I stayed. I'm sure it would have been a lot better had one of these things changed.

In general - do not expect luxury. It is a beyond basic in terms of amenities, but try to make it up to you with kitschy things - decorations, etc...

I stayed in the water tower room which did not have its own bathroom. There was dirt everywhere - (not their fault that's just the way the area is, but this is to say the complex itself is not paved, just the rooms) so I was dragging dirt everywhere - in and out of rooms in my luggage etc... Worst of all there were ants in my bed! Since you really are right in the nature of it - might as well just grab a tent and save some money. Basically I spent the whole night being bitten by ants and not being able to go to the bathroom without waking someone else up in another room. There were some public bathrooms - but they were so dirty that I didn't want to use them. Also there was no one to greet us when we first arrived so we spent a long time figuring out if we has gone to the right place.

Overall I think I'm just not a fan of ponta unfortunately. And again I think this place would have been at least bearable had a couple factors changed, but I ended up cutting my stay short and going back to Maputo early.

Gamboozini Lodge was sold to us as a lodge via Safarinow.com which it definitely is not, it is a great backpackers/camping venue. We had campers right outside our chalet who had more rights and privileges than the high paying chalet dwellers. We arrived to find the chalet we had booked in January 2016 and paid the deposit for had been given to someone else. Once we eventually were allowed into "our" room, we found the toilet and basin were neither attached to the wall or the floor plus the shower is tiled with normal floor tiles which make them very slippery when wet with soap. With the result, my husband fell in the shower on our 2nd night and hurt his ribs quite badly. The next morning I fell after standing on a highly polished granite stepping stone in the sand outside the chalet. The roof leaked when it rained and we were without electricity for more than 36 hours in our chalet on one of the days. The day we left there was no electricity or water so we could not shower. We had no towels in our room for 4 days out of the 6 days we were there. The noise level from the 56 guests housed on a small piece of land was unbearable. Music pumped all night and all day from the various groups of people plus the not so friendly neighbours. Absolutely no rest could be had at any time of the day or night. The rude, unhelpful, woman hating manager, Stephane was no help at all as he does not reside on the property and leaves most nights at 22h00 which is when the music starts to pump to the next level. The swimming pool is small but nice, unfortunately after 15 people have used it simultaneously, drinking and smoking and who knows what else at night, it could not be used the next day as it was green and dirty. There was only steak and chicken available from the menu and the bar regularly ran out of stock. The saving grace was the helpful, apologetic staff Mika, Angie and Jorge. We decided to cut our holiday short and go home so that we could get to a doctor to have my husband's ribs checked out and my back for physio but mostly to have some peace and quiet to recover from our nightmare holiday. The owner, Mark, kindly refunded us for the 4 days we could not stay but this definitely did not make up for our missed relaxed holiday opportunity! I understand that 10,000 people descended on Ponta Do Oura over this period but this should be communicated to potential guests and they should be warned about the noise levels in advance. If Gamboozini Lodge was managed properly, rules could be put in place and the manager could use the rules to sort out unruly guests that are loud or abusing the pool so that all guests could enjoy their stay. DEFINITELY NEVER AGAIN!!!

We immediately determined that you guys were not happy due to the fact that you expected a quiet holiday which is definitely something we offer all year round EXCEPT the Dec/Jan period (and sometimes during Easter it can be a bit lively) where many young people descend upon Ponta to celebrate their summer holidays (South Africa and Mozambique have their summer holidays over the Dec/Jan period) I offered you a full refund but you decided to stay longer over New Years. Why? And when you did check out early we gave you a complete refund for the remaining days, something that we had no obligation to do. We do not recommend drinking 10 beers and a few shots before taking a shower, this is definitely a recipe for disaster. If you ever decide to come to Ponta again, especially during the busy season, we recommend you rent a nice private house.

I have stayed at Gamboozini 3 times now. Twice in the busy season and once during the low season. The staff are so amazing, the manager even remembered me by name and remembered where i had pitched my tent 6 months prior! During the low season we were the only guests and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. During the busy season they worked extremely hard to keep everything running smoothly. The beach is only 200m away but be prepared for a steep walk. Remember this is budget accommodation so be realistic about your expectations. If youre looking for budget, relaxed, beautiful, friendly accommodation then this is the place for you.

-Toilet in room didnt work sometimes but we just used the communal toilet

We are most grateful for your insight and we truly appreciate return guests - it means a lot to us and shows us that we are on the right track. Please do note that it is unacceptable for a toilet to not be working. Problems can arise - but are policy is to fix them immediately! And so thank you for highlighting this. We look forward to seeing you again at the lodge. Greetings,

Lovely rustic lodge. Very laid back. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We had breakfast and dinner at the lodge and the standard was excellent. Overall very good value for money. Good bar area and relaxing atmosphere.
The owner does need to look at a couple of maintenance issues but nothing drastic. We were also disturbed by loud music from the next plot.

Thank you for your wonderful review and your understanding. We are in the middle of completely redoing the bar area, painting all the bungalows and redoing the roof. It is that time of the year. You can reach Ponta Do Ouro now in a normal car, but you can not drive around Ponta in a normal car, you need a 4by4. Our lodge is located in Ponta, but our lodge is located close to the beach and bank, restaurants etc...all within a 15 minute walk! Greetings Mark
