Overlooking the boat launch site and the bay are old and basic chalets. There are 12 2-bed chalets, equipped with beds and linen, crockery and cutlery, chairs and a table, and a cold-water basin. These are serviced by small, hot and cold-water ablutions. There are 15 4-bed chalets, each with their own bathroom, however with only a cold water shower. Full crockery, cutlery and linen are provided. The 2 or 4 bed chalets do not have fridge facilities, so cooler boxes are recommended. Ice is available for purchase from the central bar.Lastly, there a 2 larger beachfront chalets, sleeping up to 6 persons. These chalets have their own full kitchens and bathrooms with hot and cold water. Full crockery, cutlery and linen are provided, as is a freezer.

we where there in March 2011 it is ok if you really only looking for the bare essentials.
The beds where flea infested and I woke up the first morning looking like a spotted ray!!!
Got to admit the reception-staff was friendly and tried to help us changing bedding etc.
The kitchen staff was not going to help us and ignored us as far as possible, even after greeting them first. They have fridges but we had to pay for them I think R60 per day which is sad it should be part of the package and included in your stay.

The state of these units are shocking, they keep renting them out and do not bother doing any maintenance to the units. The paint is peeling off the walls, the bathroom walls are covered in mould, there are broken windows, the electricity box is open with live wires hanging out, toilet seats are broken. Really shocking that they can take peoples money for the the state these "shacks" are in.

The ONLY positive thing about this campsite is its location - easy access to the main swimming area and surf spots. The beach in Ponta do Ouro is idyllic! The campsite however is not:

- The level of filth is, in my opinion, at an unacceptable level (see attached photos). No effort is made to keep anything neat and tidy. There is litter lying everywhere, the 'washing up facilities' (if they can be called that) are filthy with trash lying around the basins (and in them) and there are piles of rubbish lying everywhere. The packs of dogs that lurk around the campsite also result in dog poo lying everywhere. The frustrating thing is that no one cares. The supposed 'cleaner' has wondered around aimlessly (or sat doing nothing) the whole day. When I complained about the mess, no one did anything about it.
-There is no hot water at the washing up facilities, and (even though advertised) no hot water at the ablutions. One camper indicated that he didn't have ANY water for a shower. There are only three lots of campers here presently, and I would HATE to see this place in peak season given that they have enough sites to house at least three hundred people, and they only have four showers (that often don't work) for males and females respectively.
-The campsite is used as a thoroughfare to the beach for anyone and everyone. The result is that you have people walking and driving past your campsite endlessly, which detracts from your privacy, and results in an environment that would be hard to describe as peaceful. It also does not feel secure.
-The mornings are very busy with dive boats, tractors etc driving through the campsite as it provides access to the beach.
-The manager took no responsibility for the state of the campsite when I complained. She first said that it was the campers that made the mess (!?) and then she said that she has casual staff and it is their responsibility. As a manager, it is YOUR responsibility to keep the site clean. End of.

Ultimately, if you value a peaceful and hygienic environment with attentive staff who make an effort to ensure that you enjoy your stay, then this place is NOT for you.

If you can put up with filth, unfriendly and unhelpful staff, and a feeling of paying a lot for nothing in return for the sake of a good location with access to a beautiful beach, then maybe consider coming here.

The roads are paved with sand and it is a true delight to walk with the sand in between your toes and to walk to the market for fresh produce every day.
The Ponto camp site is in a lovely setting of trees and sand dunes which protect the camp site from the beach with a window appearing through the bush every now and again enticing one to the jewel of Ponto. A protected oasis of turquoise sea and white, golden sand. I found myself sitting for hours on the sandy shores watching the soothing waves and the fascinating passers bye. The ablutions at the camp site are not terribly desirable, but after a few days you get used to it. But be warned, it is a working campsite, dive companies, fishing expeditions and other boating enthusiasts all pass through this camp to launch their boasts in the bay and so it can get raucous early morning. We camped here, it is a pity the place os so neglected. I never saw anyone clean the abblutionblocks, no opportunity to leave your garbage, so you find it everywhere. The worst is that anyone walks around and when you are eating, dressing up..no matter what, people come to sell things or beg for money. Positive is that shops, market and restaurants are very near and the beach is nice.

For the last five years 2010-2014 we camp at tandje beach resort, everything is fine but they can realy upgrate the ablution blocks, there are two.All they must do is put 2 more geysers in and a preasure pump for each block and the problem is solved for warm water and pressure.i realy hope they read the reviews and do something about it.They already start upgrading in the campsites with the mark spaces and electricity but if you go with your family they want clean showers and hot water

This place is a dump. It is obvious that they do no maintenance - and it is way more expensive than some of the other places around Ponta. We had no electricity for a day, no hot water for 3 days. No fridge, no microwave, broken shower and broken toilet.
If Tandje spends a small bit of money on these units, they will be SO popular due to their locations, but Africa remains a continent where "handouts" are expected and no "giving back" or "putting money back" into the system ever happens.

We were 3 families camping on site no 9 right on the beach. We had a wonderful time and find the staff helpfull and friendly. There were some water shortages but it always came on a bit later. Ablutions were cleaned throughout the day. The camp was safe and there was a helping hand who was wonderful.

We camped 3 nights at Tandje Beach Resort. It cost 100 Rand per person per night to camp on the grassed area or 130 Rand per person per night to camp on the beach.

The beach was beautiful but it was extremely windy. The ablutions were very basic and did not have hot water. There was a tap outside for dishes but the area was very gross. There were powerpoints which were great and the direct access to the beach encouraged us to stay a few nights but the camp itself was not that great. We did acquire five or six stray dogs that slept outside our vehicle all night and barked if anyone came near.
