Lar do Ouro is a beautiful guest house, with an excellent service and comfortable en-suite rooms. The overall place is cozy and is structured around a nice inner garden with a small pool, where all rooms and facilities are located. The restaurant and living room are open to the garden, providing a relaxant and nice environment.

Lar do Ouro is located a little bit far from the center of Ponta, but in a quiter place than most other lodges. Please weight "far" relative to the small size of Ponta: in fact it is no more than 5-7 minutes walking away from the center of Ponta and 10 minutes walking from the beach.

The normal rate includes an excellent breakfast and a very good 3-course dinner, with an excellent presentation and service. Teresa and Janice, the owners, are helpful and efficient, and it is clear that they are almost always present and that they run the place carefully and taking care of all small details.

In short, a very nice place with an excellent quality/price ratio.

We have THE most amazing time at Lar do Ouro, Des and Lisa went not only the extra mile, but way way beyond. Nothing was too much trouble, fo us or any of their other guests. They knew our names and chatted as if we were long lost friends , making us feel so welcome. The food was exceptional. Prawn to die for!!!!!
The atmosphere is so friendly, an area to chill, play games, play snooker etc, lovely old fashioned relaxing - so excited to see no tv, no wifi unless you buy it each day.
The walk from the Lodge to the village is lovely filled with history and people working for a living. The market is so quaint with ideas to make money- the people so friendly and wanting to work.
My dolphin swim was my bucket list item - and Des and Lisa helped us work out who to swim with and even had them fetch us!!
I will go back in a flash for some R&R, for the soul and for the body.
Thank you so much Des and Lisa you are perfect hostesses and your staff could not be more caring and considerate

This a a long established guest lodge and the owners are very experienced, well versed in the local area and Dolphin Encountours booked us in here when for our Swimming with Dolphins package. And we are so glad they did. Janice and Teri are warm and hospitable. The food was superb, plentiful and served with real graciousness. Our room was pretty basic, but it was clean and comfortable. We all slept well, partly due to our early starts on the water and the sun but also because O Lar do Ouro is restful place to be. My children were made welcome in the common lounge area and the garden and the pool. Plenty of magazinges and board games for the odd raiy hour. A lovely hideout to enjoy paradise for a very reasonable amount of money.

Very friendly hosts and staff. A nice and relaxed atmosphere.

Been staying for at Lar do Ouro for a few years now and the place needs some urgent attention and major upgrades. On a 3-night stay we experienced burst pipes, roof leaks and some poorly disguised wall stains riginated from water infiltration.

This is a very nice, safe place to stay, but seriously need some work.

We spent one night at this Guest House, having booked two. We were met at the border by a taxi and accompanied by a lovely lady, Sandrinha. This was excellent service. Janice came out to greet us and to give us our room keys. She was pleasant and informative about the route to the town and to the beach, all within easy walking distance. We were very disappointed to find the double room to be very small and claustrophobic with broken mosquito netting and a tiny bathroom smelling of gas and a mouldy shower curtain. We swam in the pool and the tiles around the edge were loose and the stairs cracked. After an uncomfortable night, we woke to find a dog swimming in the pool, apparently this happens all the time. Some people would not worry about this, but I was really put off by it, coming on top of our other problems. After some discussion with Janice, we moved to a different hotel. To be fair, all the other reviews of this Guest House have been very good and that is why we chose it. Janice did explain that our room had been booked to a family for three weeks and they had cooked in it, so it needed some work. My answer to this is that she should not have given it to us in the first place. I think that we were unlucky and I would hope that this would not happen to other visitors in the future.

We stayed at this guest lodge based on a recommendation from someone on the Trip Advisor forum and would certainly second the recommendation now that we've stayed there.

The hosts, Terri & Janice, are very helpful and attentive; Janice overheard my niece say that she didn't like mushrooms one morning, remembered it and gave her an alternative starter the following evening when the starter was mushrooms. We went for the dinner, bed and breakfast option and the food was very good.

Terri & Janice have been running the lodge in Ponta Do Ouro for 10 years and were very helpful in answering our questions, booking dolphin tours, booking a driver to take us up to Ponta Mamoli for a day (recommended), telling us of a bar from which we'd get good sea views to watch the migrating whales, recommending walks etc.

Their rooms are simple, but very pleasantly styled and had air-con and fans. The rooms are around a lovely little tropical garden which has a pool. There's also a nice guest lounge which opens out onto the gardens and has board games and plenty of reading material.

Ramone (sp?), the waiter/barman, would be worthy of a top international hotel - attentive but discreet and thorough.

We had a great time in Ponta Do Ouro and a lot of that was due to O Lar Do Ouro Guest Lodge.

We stayed at O Lar Do Ouro guest lodge last week (June / July 2016) and had a lovely stay. The owner was away so we were attended to by Matt throughout our stay, and he was wonderful. We stayed for four nights, dinner bed and breakfast, and enjoyed our visit. The lodge is a short drive away from the beach so you are able to escape the stickiness of the sea, and it is sheltered and protected from the wind (it was quite windy on the beach while we were there but back at the lodge we could relax in the sun around the pool without feeling the wind). The meals were fantastic, the breakfasts consisted of cereals, muesli, yoghurt, muffins, fruit salad, eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomato and more, and dinners were three courses with a choice of mains (seafood for me and more traditional chicken or beef meals for my hubby and kids).
There were hammocks to relax in, a pool table, board games and playing cards provided, and loungers around the pool.
My one complaint was that the beds had foam mattresses, which give me a sore back - but this only affected me, the rest of my family and other guests were fine.

Had a lovely stay in this cosy lodge with great service. The staff are so friendly and helpful, they really go out of their way to look out for you. The lodge is about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Ponta do Ouro and the beach. The town is a small place and not particularly touristy, and has a big, largely empty sandy beach.

The rooms are individual one storey buildings opening onto a pretty garden with hammocks, seating areas, and a small swimming pool. There is an open lounge area with sofas and bookcases, and a small dining area. Tea, coffee and filtered water are available to help yourself to at all times.

The food here is great, generous portions and really good quality. They offer the best breakfast I had whilst travelling in the country (and the food in Mozambique in general is good), and each night there is a set three course meal. The team are happy to accommodate dietary requirements if asked, and they put the menu up on a blackboard so you get advanced notice if there's something you can't eat.

The rooms are spacious and have mosquito screens on all the windows. They have a bed and a storage unit, bedside tables and lamps. There is an en suite bathroom with a shower cubicle. There is reliable hot water and electricity (South African plug socket style).

I really loved the atmosphere here, it felt like a home from home and I would happily have stayed longer.

Being a little out of way there is a sense of tranquility and despite being further away it is still easy to get to restaurants/bars etc.

The service from staff was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast, whilst simple was always freshly cooked to order. We also ate their one night for dinner and it was very tasty!

The place is small and the communal area around the pool can be a little noisy (particularly if you are trying for an afternoon nap :-), so try and get a room away from here if you can.

Would definitely go back!

Hi there are no taxis in PONTA DO OURO we are a small village in the south of mozambique. You are welcome to hire a quad at our lodge for a reasonable daily fee. We are only 1 km from the beach and village and within walking distance of all restaurants.

"We stayed near opposite the pool - it was fine. There is no fitness centre or room service as its a bed and breakfast and you would not expect this. A good choice if you want peace and quiet and don't mind a walk to the beach or village or are keen to hire a quad bike. Its away from the beach ."
