Amazing place well worth staying a few days! were only there for one night but the wild life seemed to be thriving, plenty and pretty tame. I definitely recommend this stunning place! Thanks to the friendly welcoming to!
Thank you Leon and Sarah for an enjoyable stay. We felt so at home, and enjoyed your company, as well as all the guests. you will see us again! Our room was clean and neat, as well as the kitchen. HOME FROM HOME. I will definitely recommend African Bush Backpackers to my friends!
We had a really good stay and did get best hints where to see the animals in Kruger. So we were able to see lions very closely! It’s a really good price! Nice, clean room, nice Kitchen! Definitely recommend this accommodation
We enjoyed our time at African Bush backpackers, everything was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. Sarah & Leon were friendly and accommodating, we would definitely stay here again. Lovely bush getaway.
We had a pleasant stay at the hostel. Great rooms and a kitchen with everything you need. Sarah and Leon are very friendly and helpful. Also a little pool outside. The road to the hostel has some potholes but you can definitely drive there with a normal car.
Our stay here exceeded our expectations. We stayed at a 4 star hotel 2 nights before for my partner's birthday and we actually preferred African Bush Backpackers! Month's before checking in, Sarah was available on email to help us plan the perfect trip and give us plenty of advice. Leon provided us with private transfers wherever we needed to go at no extra cost. Sarah, Leon and their son, Donovan, are so knowledgeable of the area and very welcoming - we felt like part of their family. We stayed in a private double room, which was as good as a hotel standard and was very clean and spacious enough for what you need. We ended up staying an extra night in one of the dorms and found these to be just as good - the value for these rooms is amazing and they will definitely exceed your expectations. Animals came right up in the garden so you could see all kinds of wildlife during the day and at night. The location is perfect, walking around Marloth Park was our best experience. We found that encountering the wildlife such as Zebra and Warthog in the streets was a much more memorable experience than some of our safari drives! The safaris booked through the hostel were the best safaris we had been on in Kruger - the vehicles are definitely the best around. They are so modern and spacious with lovely blankets and ponchos as well as a cooler full of complimentary water. There were some power outages during our stay, but this is to be expecting in Africa when there are storms. We were lucky that when staying in the private room, the lights were being run off solar panel power. I believe that they are working on moving all their electricity over to solar power to help with these outages and be more eco-friendly, so this may already be the case by the time you go to visit. The family running the lodge went above and beyond to make our trip amazing and we would highly recommend staying here over anywhere else for your trip to Kruger.…
Leon and family were awesome hosts. Very eager to help and provide advice on surrounding places of interest. Excellent air conditioned rooms! Such a rarity in south africa and much appreciated. The rooms were very clean and spacious, with hot showers, perfect after a long days drive. The estate is very eco-friendly. It is powered by solar, and so it does not suffer from the common power outages, unlike most other places in south africa. Nice fire pit to chill out at night. The place is very quiet and calming, with interesting small animals visiting and running about. Wifi access can to be improved. We will definitely choose to stay here again should we visit the area, and highly recommended to others as well!
A friend and I stayed two nights at the African bush backpackers and we had an awesome time! I can highly recommend this place. The stuff is beyond friendly and the place is sparkling clean! The hostel is located in Marloth Park which is close to the Crocodile Bridge Gate. Marloth Park offers a restaurant, gas station and a little shop. I would always chose the African Bush backpackers again!
If you're a backpacker who's comfortable sharing a mixed dorm of 6 you'll really like this place. Very friendly and accommodating owner who appears to genuinely enjoy sitting with guests and chatting amiably to them. He uses the funds from the hostel to fund the support and security of some rhinos locally. Good outside area with a central fire pit and braai for cooking meat meals. Excellent location for the gCrocodile Bridge gate. Highly worthwhile getting up to visit when the gates open at 5am to give yourself the best chance of seeing the Kruger lions, which are local to this area.
I’ve never stayed in such a purpose built backpackers before! Bunk beds were super comfy, plug sockets conveniently placed. The dorm even had air-con! Luxury! Kitchen was fully equipped, braii area and fire pit every night made for a really social setting. Wifi was great, location was perfect! Felt like you were staying in the park with animals constantly around! Leon and his family are so welcoming and friendly! Leon gave us great recommendations for a self-drive safari in Kruger and also for a local walk just outside the park where we encountered this giraffe face-to-face! Couldn’t ask for better hosts! We will 100% return in a few years and would recommend to everyone!
