We booked a night away and were pleasantly surprised. The room ( chichester room 15) was huge,a cute doggy welcome pack provided for the pupster and fresh fruit in the mini fridge for us. The bed was twins put together, so huge and quite comfy, a sofa to sit and read and watch TV. There was an excellent selection of tea and coffee and some fresh biscuits. We ate dinner in the hotel, our food was good, steak and fish n chips, again the dog was looked after with little treats and made welcome. There were people using manual and powerchairs and other families had small children with them, it feels very inclusive, which is perfect for us. A well stocked bar with a good selection of beers wine and spirits. The staff were excellent, very friendly and breakfast the next morning had an excellent choice of hot and cold food. Perfectly poached egg and well done bacon as requested. Almost forgot, bathroom with enormous jacuzzi bath and walk in shower. We didn't book an observatory experience but will return to do so.

This turned out to be a lucky find! Having booked a a room for a two night stay we then had a call to say they would upgrade us to a lodge. This was situated at the back of the hotel and was very spacious and well equipped, with a large bath and shower room. We ate in the hotel on both evenings and the food was very good each time. The menu was quite varied and everything was beautifully cooked and presented. Breakfast was also excellent. The location in a little village is handy for Kielder Water and for Hadrian’s Wall. I am sure we shall return in the near future.

The hotel is set in pretty countryside and we always receive a very warm welcome. This is my and my husband's 4th visit and we are never disappointed. The staff are always friendly and polite whilst remaining professional at all times. The rooms are cosy and clean, andcthe food is exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble, they even made scrambled egg for my dog on request! We will definitely return at some point in the not too distant future and would definitely recommend it yi anybody wanting a relaxing break.

This trip was to celebrate my birthday and we booked because of the amazing menu The menu wasn’t as extensive which was disappointing we asked the waitress about the taster menu she was very helpful and went and asked a member of the kitchen team who was in the restaurant this person was very sharp In Their reply saying they can’t have it we need 24 hour notice I wasn’t best pleased at what I’d over heard as we didn’t want it there and then but on the third After our meal which was basic pub food we returned to our room it was red hot we opened windows and tried to turn heating down by 930 it was becoming unbearable tried ringing reception eventually my husband went looking for help young gentleman came up and managed to sort the issue but was early hour of the morning before it was a comfortable temperature. The manager needs to make it clearer on website that they have a reduced menu

Lovely food, staff were wonderful especially the young lady who served our fabulous breakfast on the first day, she was very busy and in her words "got a little confused" but with her sparkling personality and smile it was fine, second day not as busy and the "Scarborough" waitress was also lovely. We've stayed before once in a cabin at the back of the hotel, lovely accommodation. This time we stayed in Room nine clean, tidy a little dated but it didn't deter from anything. My one and only complaint was that the room gets the full noise of the kitchen extractor. I feel that customers should be informed about this, my husband is deaf so it was fine for him but unfortunately not for me.

Response from Katie Meyrick-Scott, General Manager at Battlesteads Hotel
Responded 07 Jan 2024
Thanks for the feedback, if only the staff on duty last night (Sat 06th Jan 2024) had been aware of the issue you were experiencing, they would have been able to solve the problem, there and then. Its hard to solve any problems, if the staff on duty are not aware of them, until reading a review after the event online,

Lovely cosy restaurant, nice and warm on a couple of really cold nights. Great food at a competitive price, roaring fire for a drink after dining and the nicest waitress in Northumberland. Will definitely be back.

We've just returned from a one night stay that was really enjoyable. We arrived quite early but our room (11) was ready. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and had two lovely meals, good drinks and great service, then sat in the bar in front of a cosy log fire. We also were booked into the observatory and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was lovely and warm, and the breakfast was really good. The service throughout was first class, special mention to Denisa (?) the lady who was there throughout our stay.

Really lovely pub style hotel. Very friendly and welcoming, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and all with smiles. Room was spotless, food was fantastic. We also booked an event at their observatory. Roy was friendly, knowledgeable and happy to help guide you round the moon and stars. We did a beginners event. Even though the night was cloudy there were clear spells where I have never seen so many stars and looking at Jupiter and the moon through the big telescope was just amazing. Coupled up with fantastic walks nearby we will definitely be back. Hadrians wall and dark skies was something my husband has wanted to see for a long time. I booked it for his birthday. Thanks for making it such a great present. See you again.
