First of all, be aware that this is not an hotel. Even if you were fool enough to pay for a private bedroom with a private bathroom things here don’t exactly work as at any other hotel on this price range. This property is a backpackers’ hostel, with people drinking, screaming, arriving at their bedroom’s at 4 or 5am screaming out loud in the common areas, disturbing everyone else’s rest. If you booked a micro bedroom (private but with shared bathroom) be aware that those bathrooms are not even located on the same floor as the one your bedroom is located. Location is good, right in front of the beach, but the place is poorly managed (they think a WhatsApp group is the solution!) and a complete rip-off.
Me and my girlfriend travelled here for 3 nights in early February. When we booked the hotel (?!) We expected just that.We paid what would be the price of a decent hotel in Downtown Florianopolis. We wanted a place close to the beach and in fairness we got that. We also found on arrival the staff well one particular staff member at reception was unprofessional upon dealing with an unhappy guest so this did not fill us with hope going forward. This was a good hotel after all for the price hmmm. As the stay went on we found many times the staff were unprofessional. At breakfast the next morning one girl serving us thought it was her job to be cool not be attentive to our needs and when we enquired about breakfast no one was really sure what we were entiltled too as we paid extra for breakfast priviledge. After that we didn't feel comfortable approaching staff with our concerns. Well accept for one staff member named Jorge who was working on the night shift he was nice, approachable and friendly (Be like Jorge ). Another few concerns, the section we were staying in the grounds of the hotel they had a co-work thing, where companies, organizations can rent the space out for private events ( not uncommon in hotels) but the issue was one event was playing loud music until late and this was supposed to be the second best room in the hotel and when there was an event on we didn't feel welcome, maybe an invite would be appreciated haha. This concept for Selina had worked in other places in South America apparently. I think Selina is really a hostel trying to be a hotel but really needs to focus on one area and be awesome. It has the world traveler market, the cool hipster area but for families and couples.I am not quite sure. Thanks for reading be the best you can be 👍…
Near by the beach. Clean rooms and super nice and helpful staff. All speaking English pretty good. Only reason for 4 stars is that the rooms that we sow on Booking.com wasn’t ready yet because the hotel is new and the rooms was still under construction. Except of that it’s great!
I stayed at Selina hostel, brand new installations, great common areas, swimming pool, beach front. Stayed at the 8room mix dorm the bed is comfy, have locker inside, your own lamp and power/ usb outlets! Only detail is that the corridor between beds is very tiny and u have no space to hang wet towel and wet beach clothes not inside or outside the room.
