We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and baggage and car taken and parked. The entrance hall is impressive and leads to a library (in which there is music of which I do not approve. Libraries should be silent! Beyond that is a vast drawing room which serves afternoon teas and later turns into a bar. Our bedroom, across the garden quad, was very spacious and beautifully appointed. The four-poster bed was very comfortable and the night was calm and quiet. The enormous sash windows opened easily in the morning for fresh air. There were beverage making facilities on the desk and a useful clock beside the bed. There also was a well-filled plate of fruit, a chilled bottle of champagne and a container of cookies. The large bathroom was supplied with plenty of fluffy towels and bathing accessories by Espa. We thoroughly enjoyed the superb settings as we enjoyed the sunny weather outside for cocktails and dinner.…
The Lucknam is beautiful property, but the experience of staying there was not that good. This past week my family stayed in a cottage off the main house, which was very cute but not at all luxurious. There is no AC, which was fine one night and horrible the other two nights. The beds are quite uncomfortable and the answer always seemed to be “no” when we asked for something. For example, we were told if we gave our laundry to housekeeping by 9am we could have it back the next day. At 830am we rang to have it picked up and they told us the lady already came by and we were too late. They said “no” when we asked for housekeeping after 4pm (my son accidentally locked the front door with a chain so housekeeping could not come in - although why did they not use the open back door???) Their internal communications need work - we were sent by guest services to dinner at 530 only to be told the kitchen doesn’t open on Sunday until 615. Fine not a big deal but what is going on here? Also, Breakfast only starts at 830am, which is hard with kids as well as with sightseeing schedules. There is limited room service to the cottage. Also, I left something valuable behind and called a few hours after checking out once i realized I left it - they said they will call me back once they looked. I had to call every day for the last 5 days to see if they found it or no bc no one ever called back. Just not sure how they have the R&C status…. Positive - My boys did like roaming the property and doing the walks. And it IS beautiful but I wish I had stayed in one if the hotels in Bath.…
We had a long weekend in one of the cottages for the jubilee. We found the facilities ok for an average hotel not for a Relais & Chateaux property and certainly not for the price we paid. it certainly wasnt up to the standard of previous visits and when we approached management to sort out the issues we were almost dismissed with perfunctory apologies. Maybe its time for a root and branch sorting out before renewing of membership to R & C?
Love this place! Home from home! The food , the staff, the venue , the facilities, the atmosphere are all superb. My husband and I have been coming for over 10 years and are never disappointed. Our family loved their stay in the cottages too. The brasserie and fine dining are both excellent as are the spa, pool, grounds, riding, clay pigeon shooting, archery and so much more….
Everything about our stay was perfect. My family went for a horse back ride, spend the afternoon at the Spa, toured the grounds and had two fantastic meals at the Brasserie. The staff was excellent and the estate was beautiful and well-kept. Highly recommend.
I recently had a wonderful weekend at Lucknam Park. I had been before and knew already how lovely it is but this time I was particularly blown away by the outstanding service. Literally every single person we interacted with over the weekend was brilliant - with a special mention to the waiting staff in the restaurant.
Our 4th stay at Lucknam Park and it just delivers every single time. Fast becoming our "go-to" for a British 'staycation', especially now we have seen first hand how dog friendly the hotel is. We stayed in a dog-friendly manor room which had recently been refurbished and were really happy with the modern yet classic feel of the room. Our little dog Arthur was made to feel right at home and I think he was sad to leave! He loved the Green & Wilds Tiddlers treats and toy the hotel gave him. Arthur probably thought we had moved in there and had designated the courtyard as his new garden - seemed quite sad to leave! The newly enlarged dining area in the Brasserie is dog friendly (and the staff in there are so lovely) so we ate most meals in there (with one no-doggies-allowed visit to the Michelin Star dining room - basically an essential at least once each trip). Breakfast in the main dining room is not dog friendly but we were lucky to be able to leave Arthur at the front desk to greet guests while we ate, as he’s quite well behaved. As ever, the service at Lucknam Park is perfect - the staff (including at the reception, lounge, to both restaurants and the spa) are all relaxed, friendly and down to earth, while also still providing a very much 5 star country house experience. We very much look forward to bringing Arthur again soon, so thank you everyone at Lucknam and see you soon hopefully!…
Our family of 9 ranging from three months to 64 loved Lucknam Park. The baby has no opinion but the rest of us would go again. I think the three year old summed up everyone's feeling when we asked her whose car she wanted to go home in "but I'm not leaving". It is beautiful and luxurious. We all loved the pool, the gardens, the cottage and lunch at the Brasserie. On the negative side it was a little disorganised. They were in touch about the welcome pack and assured us they would replace the meat. It was otherwise a lovely pack but the receptionist at check in told us I had got it wrong and there was almost nothing and we would certainly need to order breakfast. There was plenty of food but the meat was still there. Similarly the advance booking for a lunch was missing but there was room for 8 and the staff and food were delightful. More importantly, I feel we should not have to pay extra for cots as it is very expensive, especially as the small children were counted in cottage space like an adult and so we had to buy an extra room…
The moment you drive through the electric gates & down the lengthy driveway, you know you have found somewhere special. The grounds are spectacular. We were fortunate enough to have a junior suite, which was wonderful. We had Sunday lunch in the brassiere, which has an informal atmosphere compared to the main restaurant. The food was superb, probably the best roast potatoes I have ever had. The spa is well worth a visit. The pool is amazing. All the staff we met were friendly, polite & helpful. Everything you want when staying at a high end hotel. Make sure you make the most of every minute, cycle the grounds, walk in the fields, visit the spa, do as much as you can.
I stayed at this hotel during a period of exceptionally warm weather during October, so I saw the grounds in their best possible light. The approach to the hotel is through an avenue of trees, which raises your expectations as to what lies ahead. I was greeted by an American member of staff, who made me feel very welcome. My room wasn’t in the main house, but in the courtyard behind. I received a phone call shortly after my arrival to check that everything was to my satisfaction. I hadn’t noticed at that stage that some toiletries were missing, but that was quickly put right when I drew it to the attention of the staff. There were some lovely walks to do in the grounds, and there were sculptures to look at. Unfortunately, Hywel Jones was closed when I visited, but I was very happy with the service I received in the Brasserie. I was also impressed with the Spa. I will definitely return to dine at Hywel Jones.…
