We were nearing the end of our Costa Rican Holiday and were excited to enjoy the beach. The price per night at La Tropicale and the photos of the place sounded amazing! We left after one night. We had booked for 5. The place is totally run down!! Now we do not need all sorts of 'bells & whistles' to enjoy a place. But this place felt dirty and looked like it had not been cared for in a long time. UGH! There needs to be some type of 'law' that hotels etc. have to update their photos every 3 years or so. The photos you see are lovely! THEY ARE OLD... 10 years old!? THIS IS NOT WHAT THE PLACE LOOKS LIKE NOW!!! The only good thing about our very short stay (1 night rather than 5) at La Tropicale is the Venezuelan man who is helping run the place (sorry that I have forgotten his name right now) and the garlic creamed cheese we had with breakfast. PS. not sure how there are 5 star ratings...?…
My husband and I spent 3 long days and nights here. It is a dump!!! The first “bungalow” we were given (arrived late) was dirty and quite frankly a health hazard. The AC had “broken” so they piped in a portable one into the kitchen, making it completely unuable. We were compensated for this but it was an awful space, even for one night. Burning electical at night woke us up. Moved to another “bungalow” which was in a bit better shape although many safety issues in this one. An electrical box was hanging by the AC, couldn’t move in the room it was so small and these places are lined with vinyl siding!!! The kitchen was disgusting! Wouldn’t want to cook anything in there. We are both carpenters and can see the unsafe measures taken in this place. It was awful and not recommended!!…
This was a lovely place to stay ! The owner has put his heart and soul into creating a peaceful, unique beach escape. The property is not directly on the beach but it is literally a walk down the road. You can use sea kayaks for free ! Each bungalow has its own unique look. Ours had a little sitting area , two beds and a kitchen with everything you would need. Not that we cooked, we had amazing, romantic ( even with a group of girlfriends!) dinners prepared on this cute dining patio by the owner. Who, by the way, is kind, hilarious, and helpful! Stay here for sure.
I checked closely that I am rating the correct place. We unfortunately absolutely cannot understand the good ratings! The cabins have no numbers so I cannot tell which two we were in. Travelled as a couple and stayed two nights in May 2019. We arrived late as the place is quite hard to find. Signs only help you when coming from Samara, we came from the other direction and had a hard time finding it. The cabin we were given had enormous faults and defects in it's building structure. See my pictures for details. The cleanliness was ok but not great. Had to run through the heavy rain to get the guy to show us how the shower worked. At this time I didn't think much of the hole in the shower floor. Well, a few moments later, as the rains outside got heavy water gushed out of said hole like a fountain and flooded the entire cabin. No joke, we put our stuff up somewhere quickly and ran to get the guy a second time. Due to the electricity installments being rather "adventurous" we were indeed scared to walk around in the flooded room. We were then given another cabin which was alright but had an ant problem. This cabin was also very narrow and gave two adults hardly any space to walk around. Matress was good but too big for the bed frame which made sleeping a little difficult. My boyfriend inspected things a little closer the next day and what they did is this: the cabins have little to no building connection to the concrete deck they stand on. Thus water gets in on any occasion. On the pro side: The guy who works there was very new but did a great job in trying to help us. Breakfast was tasty. On the downside: Flood Cleanliness Ants Narrow place I'd like to add one more thing which did NOT influence my rating. They keep a Red Macaw as a pet. This makes my stomach churn in pity for the animal. …
Arnaud has creatively decorated these cabins with a very quirky and artistic flair. Our cabin had comfortable beds, a full kitchen and hot water. They were situated in a lovely garden as was the very nice pool. We were only able to stay one night but wished we had had more time there. The beach with parking very close by is stunning. In Arnaud's on site French restaurant you will be treated to excellent cuisine. Thank you Arnaud for your very warm hospitality. Kirk and David
