In the heart of the Sila lies this beautiful, recently restored fortress dating back to the 13th century.
It is surrounded by a beautiful park and has a dozen large rooms on the top floor (some attic). The beds are very comfortable and old-fashioned: large mattresses, heavy and enveloping blankets. A sleep of other times thanks to the silence that surrounds the property. Bathrooms are standard (too bad). Breakfast is ok. The park and surroundings are beautiful.

The place is lovely, an immense and quiet park, ideal for tranquility, for beautiful walks in the Silan woods. It's not far from Camigliatello. Large rooms and pleasant fireplace room. Very nice staff while it was quite "rough" the property.

We stayed two nights at this beautiful place as part of a Wilderness Travel hiking trip. This is a family-run small hotel on the top floor of a newly renovated 18th century building. A bit rustic but very clean and charming, a living room with a working fireplace, each room is unique and all are comfortable. I found my room a bit musty but just left the window open. Breakfast was great, lots of variety and good quality, plenty of coffee, which is sometimes not so in Italy. The surrounding property is just drop-dead gorgeous. The family -- headed by a baron, I think -- has built a fabulous small museum in what used to be a cow barn but is now an elegant modern building. The exhibit chronicles the history of Italian emmigration. The narratives are in Italian but the photos are very evocative, and they provided an English-language booklet that explained the main points. The hostess--one of the baron's daughters -- was very friendly and gracious, made us feel very welcome. This was a wonderful and unique experience.

+1
What an incredible experience at Torre Camigliati. This is such an incredible place to stay in the Sila Mountains of Calabria. Centuries old and rebuilt to its original splendour. The rooms are spacious and each is original and different with beautiful bathrooms. There are many great rooms to hang around and a must is to wander the beautiful grounds.
Breakfasts are delicious with perfect homemade cornetto, breakfast cake, fruits, cheeses and more.
Please also visit their stunning Diaspora Museum on the property.
The lovely town is just a 20 minute walk away with great restaurants.

Accommodation around here is difficult, we hoped this would be a good alternative to the big hotels in the town. It was not. Booking is messy involving bank transfers and lots of e mails. Checking in relies on an estate worker being around when you arrive to open up. The room we had was dark and sombre, as is the whole place. Plenty of room and comfy beds. Breakfast is OK but the whole ambience is unwelcoming and austere. WeDon't bother.

Sorry we did not succeed in communicating the atmosphere of the stately home that Torre Camigliati is, full of history. Sure ir was due to the unexpected illness of our receptionist. We shall try and do our best for the next time and thanks for your remarks.

I wholeheartedly recommend Torre Camigliati. If you are traveling anywhere near that pristine and beautiful part of Calabria, you must stay at Torre Camigliati. The place is a destination in and of itself. It is captivating, magical, and comforting all at one time. The structure is splendid, and its placement on the gorgeous acres of fields and massive trees is art at its best.
It is an aristocratic, baronial hunting lodge that has been restored. The amount of work required to bring it back from its decayed state was massive. And, I tell the reader-----The restoration is a masterpiece. Both inside and outside, the extreme attention to detail is abundantly clear. I saw perfection in every texture, every color, every furnishing, every fixture, every wall hanging, and every handcrafted door, door knob, and doorway. (I even found my oversized bathroom to be charming.)
When asked about my trip to Calabria, I find myself getting totally carried away when I try to describe Torre Camigiliati. I will spare the TripAdvisor reader all of my babbling. But, I have to insist that they imagine me gushing with superlatives and descriptions of emotional responses to a captivating place. Torre Camigliati is a WOW

We stayed in a very tasteful apartment in what looks like an old agricultural building. It was still a bit chilly at this time of the year, so we were able to enjoy a log fire, which made for a very cosy evening. The property is itself in a very beautiful place and the wider surrounds offer much in the way of hiking and nature. The owner of the property and her staff were very courteous and helped us with local restaurant bookings and recommendations. Torre Camigliati is a charming and atmospheric property, ideal for a relaxing, romantic or adventurous holiday.
