Big rooms in a stunning setting. We had a car and a confident driver so we were able to get up to the pool/restaurant. A bit of stairs if you don't though. The pool had an amazing view of the ocean, although definitely needs new tile work. The rooms were spacious and clean and

Dear guest Thank you for your review,we are happy to know you enjoyed our views and breakfast. Yes,you need a confident driver to make it up the hill with no four wheel drive As for the hot water issue,as I have been answering other guests before, from end of April we fixed our water pressure problem that kept a few units constantly out of hot water,so now all rooms have hot water all the time. Also as of May 2017 we have done tile work and repairs around and inside the pool,so its now renovated and with the same beautiful views. Also just did work on the road by the entrance, parking lots and many other renovations, hope you visit us again to check it out and try the amazing food that our chef is doing!!!!

I booked three months prior to my arrival with Louis; the owner of Hotel Sol y Mar in Santa Catalina for one night and gave him my credit card information and he told me I had the room. I drove 5 hours from Panama City and arrived at Sol y Mar about 5:30pm and was told that he

Dear guest Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience at Sol y Mar Your comment is based on me having said things that I have not and other people saying that I am difficult and also on recognizing that we have good quality rooms, food and service Please let me give you my version of what happenned again,as I already told you this. You arrived that afternoon and my employee called me immediately ,so I came to talk to you and explain that because of my personnel mistake on not having closed the availability on one of my booking channels when I rented some rooms we got overbooked. And I mentioned we had a group, but also other reservations outside of the group, never did I say that I decided to accept the group and not you.....I told you several times it was a mistake, assumed responsability and offered compensation. You imediatelly shouted very loud in front of other guests a very rude word,to which I told you you should calm down. After that you took full advantage of my offer of showing you around and finding you a similar room,at a lower cost, which we did.You also accepted my offer of free dinner and drinks, which you did with cocktails, wine, entree, main course and desserts. All while I took it upon myself to be around and cordially care for your needs and answer your questions. So am sorry but is only because of a mistake that this overbook happened, you were the last guest to arrive and therefore it was on you,but you told me you felt compensated of the incident, while we chatted about many things, and I had no idea there were other americans around that have stayed here and consider me difficult? You came back from Coiba and stayed another night at a very discounted rate during high season again as compensation and we talked all the time in a very cordial manner...never thought I was difficult....Those kinds of comments on a hotel review make you not a reviewer about your experience, but the judge of people´s characters,if they are difficult,or easy, just based on an incident, and then you immediately find other people that think badly about my character ?That goes a bit beyond just making a review,I never thought you wanted to attack me personally when I was so friendly to you the whole time, even when you raised your voice and were rude. So my conscience is clear that I assumed for my mistake, apologized and did the best as we always do to serve you as a valuable guest. We will continue to do so and hope you all the best

My wife and I visited this hotel for a quick 2 day diving trip. It was recommended by the dive operator. After checking it out on T/A we thought, great let's go ahead. Was easy to find on way into Santa Catalina. Arrived and had to go looking for someone to check us in. This

Dear guest Thank you for taking your time to review your stay with us,we always pay attention to what guests are saying and doing our best to solve any problems that the guests help identify. So sorry that you did not find that the room you were assigned was up to standard and your stay in Santa Catalina was not the best according to your review. We apologise for some things that you say were not well. Wish you would have told us about the ants,as you may imagine in February being full almost daily people bring food with them and being in nature like we are ants appear everywhere, but not usual and if guests tell us we take care of the problem. We did for a while because of lack of pressure have hot water problems in some of the units, those problems have been solved and we now have permanent hot water in every room. Also very unusual that you found 3 chunks of onion in your fruit salad, and did you mention it to me,Luis, the owner that am here 99% of the days doing breakfast and so was that day?We would have apologised and given you another fruit salad, and make corrections, but instead of saying it to us so to say it online where it is recorded as it is something totally normal to happen here when it isn't....what a serious of unfortunate accidents that happenned to you,so sorry to hear that... Also the power outage, that you say was what caused you to decide to leave (doing a very late check-out with no charge),when in fact it did not affect you as it took place while you were in Coiba and was over by the time you arrived and decided to check-out,as I told you it would..... Sorry that the service at the restaurant was not as speedy as you needed, maybe again communication was the norm? The restaurant and pool area are also the hang out place for the hotel, only place with wi-fi,and maybe if you would have waived someone over or called we woud have taken your order imediatelly,we are here to serve our guests always in a familly ambiance, you tell us your needs and we do our best to fullfill them as fast as possible.Talking about fast we consider in this areas that 30 minutes after the order is made is a good time to have a chef prepare and serve a meal from scratch with fresh ingredients in a restaurant like ours where we do not promote fast food. Also your comment on our employee Andrea being overworked seems to us a bit comical,in the way that you have no bases to sustain that as you were here one evening and considering any hotel or reataurant worker will have peak seasons and busy times. Also as this hotel has 9 rooms in total, both Andrea,me and any of the other 5 permanent workers and 3 seasonal ones are used to having multiple tasks to perform at the same time for shorf intense moments of activity.Any tourism professional can tell you trhis is what the industry is about,we deal with guests, and sometimes everyone arrives at the same time, and things just go like that, another day in the Hotel business,it is not accurate for you to stay one night and immediatelly say my emplyees are overworked, there are comments that better not be made if there are no bases for them... Anyway,I want to say that as always we have made renovations and taken care of any maintenance problems we might have had in any rooms, and everything is in order and working on all of them. We As for your affirmation of the rooms not being fashionable for nowadays I will take that for its value, but fashion is quite subjective, there are many people that find our rooms comfortable and well equipped, with good beds, air conditioning (you say it eventually cooled the room, but isnt that what it was supposed to do? ),safe deposit box, satellite TV,mini-fridge,hair-dryer....terrace with hammocks... Maybe Santa Catalina is a bit rustic ,but its natural charm can never be compared to the sterile environment of a city, please come with an open attitude and look around you so you can enjoy the beauty and comforts of Sol y Mar,and embrace that bit of adventure that always finds you in this kind of place. Be assured we will keep working hard to give everybody a warm welcome and provide for their needs as well as we can.
