We had a very long drive from the Osa Peninsula getting as close to San Jose as we could for our 3 pm flight home the next day. We read that the Dantica Restaurant was rated very highly and decided that it would be a good place to eat and stay for our last night in Costa Rica. We got there at 8 pm and were fortunate that they had a room. We stayed in number 3. I read some of the negative reviews but all I can say is that our accommodation was fantastic. The room was spotless, the furniture and bed comfortable, everything worked, and although we could not see the views at night there were windows overlooking the cloud forest. They gave us a map of the forest trails to take an early hike the next morning. We had an absolutely fantastic dinner and the chef was wonderful. He was also our server and we were so impressed by him. The restaurant itself is unique. It is completely enclosed in glass. Very romantic too. We took a jacuzzi in our room and had a great night sleep. The next morning when we opened our curtains all of the windows looked out over the cloud forest below us. Incredible. We took an hour hike and then had a wonderful breakfast which came with the room. The gift shop is very nice too. This was a perfect end to our nine day Costa Rica trip. We would definitely look forward to staying there again.

We made a reservation on line for a 2 bedroom unit and confirmed with the owner in an email that we would have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. When we arrived on site the receptionist put us in a regular room that had one queen room and was the longest way from the parking area down a stone step trail. Then she offered to upgrade us to a better room closer. It was only when I showed her the email from confirming we had a 2 bedroom unit that she called someone who must have told her to honor our reservation. She offered us our pick of 2 beautiful options. I would advise travelers to confirm the room location especially if they have heavy luggage. We went on a short walk around the property while we waited on our room. Good traction shoes and hiking sticks are a must because it can get slippery on the trails. The location and views are beautiful and once we resolved our room issue everything else was amazing. The craftsmanship and artistic touches add a charming uniqueness to Dantica. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and there are bird feeders all around so you can enjoy watching the birds. The duvets, refreshments in the room and heaters make the rooms cozy and comfortable. Carlos the guide took us on an amazing Quetzal tours and a mountain hike. Breakfast is included and and it starts with coffee fresh juice and an assortment of fresh fruit. All the breakfast options we chose were good. We had dinner in the restaurant once and the salad and pasta were both delicious. Other than the initial hiccup with the room this is a great place to stay and we would return.

I had a good time at the Dantica Lodge where I spent 6 nights. The location and views are unbeatable, the staff very helpful. I stayed in two different bungalows while I was there and they were clean and comfortable - except that it DOES get cold up there in the mountains so be prepared. The beds were comfortable. The other thing I was not quite prepared for was the serious steepness of the trails. I would only suggest that very serious fit hikers head out on their trails. I turned back quickly after attempting their "easiest" trail as I was alone and it did not feel safe for me (not a serious "hiker"). Breakfasts were excellent and you could watch massive hummingbird action from your table.I booked a quetzal tour through the hotel and the guide they use was great - we found 5 quetzals and got good views. For other activities I drove up or down the seriously steep hair-pin turning narrow road, mostly in first gear! Definitely an adventure and I'm happy I had it.

We spent two Nights in the lodge, which is on a Gravel Road to a small village down in The Valley. We enjoyed Hikes on the private land as well as the Great view from our Bungalow nr. 2. , which is Sitting just Above The Valley. We liked the personal touch and artist work everywhere. In March we experienced 7 degrees Celsius in the morning. It seems difficult for the lodge to get groceries on a regular basis. In the Restaurant and at breakfast we had to change orders.
