I could not recommend staying here highly enough. If you want a peaceful place to be surrounded by nature, to bird watch, or to just relax and get away from the world, Quetzal Valley Cabins are a paradise. You really are in the heart of the forest, and the views from the windows are incredible. You can see so many different species of birds just whilst sitting and having your breakfast. There are some nice little trails on the property as well as access to other trails in the area, and San Gerardo de Dota is one of the most beautiful places we've ever been. The cabins are beautifully rustic and the kitchen was well equipped with the shop just up the (very steep) road. The wood burning stove makes the cabin cosy in the cold evenings, and it is such a relaxing place to be. All in all, we had a perfect stay for the four nights we were here - Peter, the owner, was very helpful with advice and tips, and really made us feel welcome. We wish we could have stayed longer, and will definitely be back if possible in the future!

If you are looking for an amazing place full of peace and a breathtaking views and forest this is the place. I stayed with my family on a full weekend and stayed on Villa 1, this has an amazing view of the valley and the forest, we also took a walk through their trails and went all the way to the river. Amazing hike by the way. We really enjoyed the villa, super comfortable and very cozy.

Great little cabins. Excellent place to have a coffee and look at the amazing views and wildlife, even better as a base camp for exploring the quetzal valley and surrounding area. Love the private "road" down to the bottom, so much to explore from there. Looking forward to my next visit.

We stayed in one of the cabins close to the road, it was fine with comfortable facilities including a heater. The folks at Miriam's Restaurant were helpful in getting us set up once we arrived in our rental car. Owner Peter was very patient and informative when we were planning and booking our stay. Birding Guide Alex (connected with Miriam's) was superb, we went out with him twice in the week we were there. The birdwatching in the area is fantastic, with good possibilities for Resplendent Quetzal, many species at the feeder's at Miriam's, and opportunities lower in the valley and farther afield.

This was our second family visit. The 5 of us stayed in a larger cabin with a spectacular view of the valley for 3 nights. As agreed, Nelson met us at the bus stop and drove us down. I am not sure how long he had to wait, because I was expecting to arrive sooner (we were coming by bus from Palmar Norte), but he was genuinely happy to see us. During the 2 full days that we stayed, we walked down the road from our cabin in hopes of seeing quetzals early morning and late afternoon. We saw a number of females and were lucky to see a male twice, even if not for long. I spoke to Francisca on the phone upon our arrival, and she offered that we stay longer if needed. It was still over a week and a half before our scheduled flight and things were changing rapidly, so this was very kind and considerate. Even though we did not end up extending our stay, it was good to know we'd have a place to come back to if that became necessary. I kept her and Nelson's phone numbers handy to the end of our trip, just in case. We still enjoyed watching plenty of hummingbirds at the feeders of the pizzeria up the road, one of the few places we found open. Our cabin (#2 if I'm not mistaken) was spacious and cozy. We had a propane heater inside and were very comfortable. Nelson took us back to the bus stop early morning for our departure. I was a bit nervous, as the night before I was told some buses were being canceled. In the end, it worked out fine: we only waited a short while. Also, luckily, we were able to pay the driver in dollars (I was not sure if that was going to be a problem), and there were enough empty seats for the 5 of us on that bus. It was a bit difficult to enjoy ourselves under the circumstances, but at the same time the scenery and the birds provided us with the much-needed distraction. I wish we would have walked more, seen more while we were there... guess we'll have to come back )
